CSI:DM is a game that you don't have to be a CSI fan to be able to play. It takes place in Las Vegas and has five missions, which, even though it may be a small number, is still pretty fun to play. They cover things from petty theivery to murder, sometimes all in the same "episode," if you will. All the characters from the TV series are there, like Grissom, Greg, and Catherine.
Since the game is on the DS, you wouldn't expect the graphics to be anywhere near HD quality, and they aren't, but I thought they were at the least above average for a DS game. The cutscenes bring back memories from watching CSI, as they are extremely close to the way the show works. However, on some of the missions, the graphics are too bad or the brightness is too low to be able to see some of the major clues like a tire track on a dark street that would easily be discernible in real life.
The sound was mediocre at almost all times, mainly because only a little bit of dark and drab music was playing in the background at any given time; there were also no voiceovers whatsoever. I recommend not wasting electricity and only putting the sound on for the cutscenes, which were the saving grace for the sound.
The gameplay itself was wonderful-it made excellent use of the DS's features, as all the tools used in the game were controlled on the touchscreen, things like dusting for fingerprints or brushing away dirt from a skeleton. The gameplay options could make the game very easy or very, very hard depending on how you wanted it. The quizzes at the end of the missions helped a lot in adding to the fun. The missions were very different, so it was never repetitive. However, missing one thing in the entire mission and making it so you couldn't move on was a very common thing for me, and it would have helped a lot if a camera control was added to the game.
The replay factor was pretty low, mainly because if you beat the game one time through, you knew exactly what you had to do. However, some things like the adjustable game play options could mean that you could play it again with some things disabled for an even harder game. Other than that, there really isn't anything else to say about lastability, as it was just not very good.
Overall, the game was pretty fun. It could have been better, mainly by adding a camera control option, which would up the games overall score by at least a point. The gameplay was, as I said, wonderful. Adding some more missions would have helped a lot too, and maybe making things a bit easier to notice. A tire track on the road isn't exactly the hardest thing in the world to notice, but in the game, apparently it is.
