Choose Fast Characters

Regardless of who your favourite character is, if you want to win races straight away in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled you need to choose the character that is the fastest. In the starting Adventure area of N. Sanity Beach that character is Tiny Tiger who is the only character available to you that has maxed out speed stats. Although his initial acceleration and turns are not particularly good he is able to make up lost time with his speed.

Boost Start

Like most kart racers you can get a speed boost at the countdown at the start of a race if you time it right. You need to wait half a second before the green light is illuminated before hitting accelerate. Your aim is to hit the maximum acceleration right as the light turns green.

If you time it correctly you will leave your fellow racers in the dust.

Power Sliding

The only way that you will be able to hit the top speeds in Crash Team Racing is by power sliding at every possible opportunity. There are lots of different ways that you can boost through each track and the only way that you will get good at the game is to practice them while drifting.

Power sliding round corners is straight forward but if you can't maintain the boost during long straights you will need to slalom your way until the next corner by power sliding and hitting the boosts.

Save Beakers and Bombs

The two most common power-ups in Crash Team Racing Nitro-fueled are beakers and bombs. Try to hang onto both of these for when you are leading the race as you will be the prime target for missles and dropping beakers and bombs behind you right as the missile is about to hit you will result in you blocking it.

Collect Wumpa Fruit

You will find Wumpa fruit on the floor of most of the courses, either individually or inside a crate you can smash. Whenever you obtain Wumpa Fruit in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled you will increase the power of your weapons, collecting 10 Wumpa fruit will result in your weapons transforming into more powerful versions. It is essential that you pick up Wumpa fruit whenever you can as these power-ups can be a game changer.

How to Defeat Pinstripe

There are five bosses (Ripper Roo, Papu Papu, Komodo Joe, Pinstripe, and N. Oxide) and to beat each of them you need to stay in front of them at all times. Pinstripe in particular can be difficult because of the bombs and his rubberbanding. The best strategy to beat this boss is to pass him at the shortcut on the first lap. From the start until the shortcut just try and keep up with him while at the same time avoiding his bombs which he will always throws in the same place. After taking the shortcut so you are ahead you should be able to stay in front for the rest of the race with little trouble if you know the track.

Get Rid of TNT Crates

Driving over a TNT Crate will make it land on the head of your racer and start an audible countdown. When this happens you need to immediately start hopping by mashing one of the bumpers. At the fifth hop, the TNT Crate will be thrown off your head and explode harmlessly when it hits the ground.

Save your Wumpa Coins

In Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled the Pit Stop is an in-game store where you can buy outfits, stickers, vehicles and characters. The contents of this store rotate daily so it is advised that you save the Wumpa coins you earned completing races so you can purchase the characters you want to own. These characters will have the same stats as those which are unlockable during Adventure mode and are easily the best thing available at the in-game store.
