We could have continued this section on our Best Tips page. But felt that this was such an important topic that it was worthy of it's own page in our 'small but useful' guide.

You may have come to realise already, that people in the game often like to wait for the other person to throw down the first card.

This is probably the most popular tactic, wait to see your opponent's initial card then deal a counter card as it approaches your tower.

Sometimes your opponent may throw down a very weak card such as three goblins in order for you to reveal your play. Because if you don't his elixir will top off at 10 again and effectively have gotten away with a small attack on your base for nothing.

Whatever you do don't be first to throw down a card and throw down a prince or a hog rider - These are expensive cards and easily countered when an opponent has 10 elixir at the start of the game.

Instead try a goblin hut. or a witch if you want to throw down first, place them behind one of your Princess towers. They have to be countered, but after the initial fight you should still have your hut producing spear goblins, and you can move on from there. I like to add a barbarian hut to the same side, so the opponent has to use a lot of elixir to counter the troops coming out of these two huts.

Once you have weakened your opponents elixir and you think he is out then just switch to the other tower with a fast moving strong card such as the prince or hog rider. This tactic has worked for me time and again - But I'm not so advanced in the game, currently Arena 5, with level 6 towers, so I'm sure tactics will change as you progress further in the game. But for the initial stages, this is a good strategy.

Flying Attacks

It's really important that you have a couple of cards in your deck that are capable of air attacks. The best I have seen so far are the baby dragon and minion hoarde. Minion hoard is great as they will attack but land and air based cards.
