Blackout is the first attempt at the battle royale genre in a Call of Duty game. The Black Ops 4 Blackout beta was made available Monday, September 10 and ended September 17th 2018. The official release date for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is October 12th, 2008 and unless there are any major changes when the full release comes out you will find these tips useful in Blackout.

Dive Down

Like most of the games in the battle royal genre you initially start by jumping out of some sort of airborne troop carrier, in the case of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 it's a chinook helicopter. As soon as you have jumped out of the helicopter you need to angle yourself downwards so you plummet towards the ground. When you are about two-thirds of the way through the guage on the right side of the screen you need to tilt upwards so you glide through the air to your destination. When you get near to the ground your parachute will automatically deploy. You will be able to land safely every time as long as you tilt upwards over hills and verticle terrain.

Find a Weapon

Compared to other maps in the battle royal genre the map in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is not very big so there are not that many places of interest therefore it is likely there will be a number of players landing at the same location as you. This means the first thing you need to do as soon as your boots have hit the ground is find weapon so you can eliminate any other players you happen to land with. For the time being ignore any med-kits and weapon attachments and focus on getting a weapon that fires.

Mystery Box

If you are familiar with Zombies mode in the Call of Duty games you will recognise the blue beam of light that ascends to the heavens as a marker that indicates the location for the mystery box. In Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 the mystery box guarantees a high level weapon and armour but unlike previous games you don't have to pay for it. The mystery box can be found near the Asylum at the start of each game before it teleports away. Make sure you have plenty of ammo before you go there though as it will be guarded by a small horde of zombies.

Consumable Perks

Scattered everywhere on the floor in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 are consumable perks, many of which you will recognise from previous games in the series. There’s never an opportune time to use these perks during the middle of a fight as they are purely passive bonuses therefore it makes more sense to use them immediately you find them as they will last for several minutes anyway.

Headshots

In Blackout there are no helmets which makes aiming for the head the obvious way to get a one-hit-kill. There are three stages of armour for protection and hitting an opponent in the body who has stage 3 armour will not do serious damage. Unless your target is already weak you will never get a one-hit-kill hitting their body from long range. They will just heal up and know exactly where to find you.

Trauma Kits

The best healing item in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 are trauma kits as they will instantly replenish your health to 100% and also give you an extra boost of 50 health to take your total to 200. Surprisingly trauma kits are not hard to find and will give you a great advantage in a fight, especially if you have stage 2 or 3 armour. Remember after a fight to loot whoever you kill for any trauma kits or med-kits they may have been carrying.

Endgame

Blackout is not like Fortnite where you are able to build your own cover and aggressively search for enemies. If you want to be be successful and reach the endgame in Blackout you will need to keep away from open areas and instead use buildings as cover to keep hidden as you stealthily hunt down the enemy to get a visual on them before they spot you.
