Battletoads is a side-scrolling beat'em up game where you can switch between three toads during levels. These three toads are named after skin condition (Rash, Zitz, and Pimple) and each has its own strengths and weaknesses in combat. After being locked up in a fantasy simulator bunker for 26 years, the Battletoads are no longer intergalactic heroes and have fallen into modern day obscurity. Unable to settle down for a quiet, simple life, they set out to regain their fame by finding and defeating their old nemesis, The Dark Queen. When the Battletoads confront the Dark Queen they find out that she is in a similar predicament as them, having also been trapped and losing her powers. They all then decide to team up to take down an evil alien race called the Topians who they discover is responsible for trapping all of them and are now the current rulers of the galaxy. Switch Characters
If you are playing solo it is important that you tag in a character in a situation where they are more useful. This not only helps you defeat that enemy or boss easier, it also prevents the other character from being K.O'd. The Battletoads have varying attacks and playstyles, Zitz is fast, Pimple is strong, and Rash is balanced.
Pay Attention to Exclamation Points
Whenever ou see exclamation points above the heads of any of the three toads it is to warn you that there are projectiles coming in from enemies and that you must take immediate action to avoid them.
Use Combinations to Defeat Enemies
You will find that there are certain enemies in Battletoads that require you to break their block, stun them, and even execute combination moves in order to be defeated. The combination moves also do a lot more damage and serve to clear out crowded spaces, so make sure you use them whenever possible.
Save Health by Jumping
Most of the enemies the Battletoads encounter use a standard combo of two or three hits into a slightly delayed final attack. If you try to move while the enemy combo is taking place you will find your character is locked in place and you are forced to take the final hit in the combo. It is though possible to avoid the final hit in the sequence by going either up or down so you jump into the background or forground. Doing this to avoid the last hit of an enemy combo will enable your Battletoad to save some health.
How to Catch Flies Easily
At certain times throughout the game a group of flies will appear and eating these flies will replenish lost health. Aside from the insects that drop health cubes eating these flies is the only way in the game in which you can regain lost health so it is important that you try and grab as many of these flies as possible with your tongue during the limited time they are on screen. The best way to do this is to position your Battletoad a little bit away from the flies so you give yourself an easy angle to catch them all. To catch the flies with your Battletoads tongue you simply have to attack them.
