You Don't Lose Progress in Death

You will not be punished if you die in Axiom Verge 2. When your character is killed during the game you will retain everything they had before they died, your only loss will be time as you will have to resume the game from the last save point you saved and retread old grounds. This is why it is essential that you retain your progress at a save point whenever one becomes available.

Save Your Energy

Keep an eye on the blue meter below your health bar, as this indicates the amount of energy Indra has available for her tools or when she hacks. It is important to remember that some of her tools, like the Gud An-Na which can blow up some walls, should only be used when necessary as it uses up a lot of energy which drains the blue meter quickly,

Melee Weapons Replace Guns

One of the big changes between Axiom Verge 2 and the original is the increased emphasis on melee combat rather than ranged combat. Indra will have a few ranged-type weapons, such as the boomerang, but almost nothing in the way of weapons with firepower. The enemies you encounter during the game however will have plenty of firepower at their disposal, so in order to defeat them, you will need to master the fine art of closing into melee combat as quickly as possible.

Save Points are Crucial

Axiom Verge 2 autosaves frequently, which is why nothing is ever lost when you die. You can also go to a save point to retain the progress in your game, it is crucial that you do this in a Metroidvania game like Axiom Verge 2 as there is no telling where the next save point will be and there is nothing more frustrating than having a big chunk of your progress wiped by a bad decision. When you go to a save point, you will heal all meters as well as save the game.

Use Indra's Abilities to Evade Combat

Use Indra's Abilities to Evade Combat

There is no need to fight every enemy you come across in Axiom Verge 2. More often than not they are not worth the struggle, the exception to this is bosses that have Skill points you can earn and then invest in abilities. Indra can hack the game's robotic enemies, reprogramming them with options like 'Overclock', 'Allegiance', and 'Platform. She also has an ability to slow enemies down, which allows her to either run past of smash them quickly. In the early stages of the game, it is usually more beneficial to get past the enemies without a fight whenever possible and just make your way to your next story objective. You will not be punished in any way if you do this.

Use the Compass to Find Urns (Upgrades)

Early in Axiom Verge 2 you will get the Lapiz Lazuli compass, which at first glance will appear useless. This compass will be tucked away at the bottom left of the screen and can be easily forgotten. Don't ignore this compass as it can be used to find nearby Urns which will usually have upgrades in them. There are two different things to look out for when using the compass, a blue light and a red light. If you see a blue light start to form, it indicates you are getting close to an urn or a special object. If you see a red light begin to form, it means you are getting close to a red portal.
