Attack on Titan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama that has also been turned into an anime series. It is set in a world where humanity was driven to the brink of extinction by giant man-eating humanoids called Titans. Protected by three massive circular walls that kept the giants out, the last remnants of humanity were able to live in relative peace. Now, nearly one century later, a new type of Titan called the Colossus Titan has emerged that is able to breach the barriers protecting the humans.

The inevitable happens and the barriers are smashed by a Colossus Titan, which allows a flood of giants into the safe zone of humanity. During the carnage that follows, the mother of a young boy called Eren Yeager is eaten by a Smiling Titan. The boy manages to escape and vows to get revenge on all Titans.
