The Ten Expected Best 3rd Generation Pokemon In Pokemon GO

Is it ever too early to look too far ahead and predict what is still to come? We here at SuperCheats don’t seem to think so! Even though the 2nd Generation of Pokemon GO hasn’t even been out for a whole month, we still are going to look into the future and take are best shot at predicting the ten Pokemon that will stand as the best of the to-be 3rd Generation.

It’s already far too difficult to even select the ten Pokemon who we think will be the strongest from such a fantastically powerful Generation, so we won’t dare to rank them from least to greatest. Instead, we will simply pick the ten Pokemon who we think will end up being the best of the best, including details on why we feel such a way. We will give it our best go, but if at anytime you feel we missed something, nailed a selection, or are dead wrong with one of these Pokemon, we encourage you to leave your thoughts in the comment section below each and every page of this article.

Before we begin, we usually like to take a moment and share the Pokemon that just missed the cut in our eyes. Shockingly, there are twelve Pokemon that just feel short for us, but the same that could very well be in the top after the 3rd Generation does eventually come to Pokemon GO. It’s the most Pokemon that have ever just barely missed out in any of the articles we have made, which should say a lot about how great the 3rd Generation was.

The Twelve Pokemon That Just Missed The Cut (But Still Could Be As Great):

Ludicolo - We all remember how frustrating it was to bring this guy down back in the 3rd Gen, and it very could still be that way when it comes to Pokemon GO.

Shiftry - It may be a one-trick pony that specializes in only Attack, but you can longer brush these types aside after Espeon was rated so highly.

Swampert - Unfortunately, it’s looking like this Starter will be the worst of the bunch, but you just never know with these defensive Pokemon.

Breloom - Could very well still be great, much like Shiftry, based on its offensive power.

Exploud - Ursaring was a surprise in the 2nd Gen Update, and so this Pokemon could be a sleeper pick.

Hariyama - Big and strong, which usually means good things in Pokemon GO. Watch out for this one, as it could go either way.

Medicham - The balanced Pokemon of this Generation, which means it could be very good or very mediocre depending on how much each stat has.

Sharpedo - As like Shiftry and Breloom, the same goes for Sharpedo.

Camerupt - Another sleeper pick, one with bulk and power. This guy could soar to 3000 Max CP, or peak at a mere 2300.

Grumpig - Another unusual pick, but as gotten better as time has gone in the mainstream games. Could be enough for this one.

Zangoose - A popular Pokemon with a lot of power, but one that might be snubbed due to all the powerful Pokemon in the 3rd Gen.

Absol - Just missed the cut in our eyes, being very similar to Espeon. It came down to it and (spoiler alert) Sceptile, and we decide to go with the more popular Pokemon since they usually get favored in Pokemon GO.

Now if those are the twelve Pokemon that just came up short, you must know our ten selections are going to be some of the best Pokemon that have been seen. So let’s get started already!

Metagross

We’ve decided to start things off with the most obvious choices, the Pokemon that are no doubt going to be the best of the best based on really how they rank in the current Pokemon World. There are three Pokemon that match this criteria for us - four if you want to throw in one of the more popular Pokemon too - and one of those is none other than Metagross. And honestly, we wouldn’t be surprised at all if Metagross ends up being the best Pokemon from the 3rd Generation of Pokemon GO, not even if it’s the best non-legend among all three generations.

To start, it’s one of the two Pseudo Legends from the 3rd Generation, having nearly as good as stats of some Legendary Pokemon. To top that, it’s the better of the two Pseudo Legends, as it has a much more balanced skill set. The other, the next to make our list, has more offensive powers than Metagross, but Metagross will clearly be the better of the two. We easily see Metagross being at least 3500 Max CP in Pokemon GO, matching at least Dragonite’s extraordinary mark, but we can also see it topping even Tyranitar’s mark of 3600 Max CP. Realistically, Metagross could be near 3700 Max CP or better when it’s all said and done, so it makes easily having it first on our list.

Salamence

After having Metagross be the first to make our list and stating quite clearly that we’d be going over the obvious choices first, you had to have at least some idea that Salamence would be the next we’d choose, at least third for that matter. And like Metagross, we wouldn’t be shocked if Salamence ends up being the best non-legendary Pokemon of Pokemon GO after the 3rd Generation is finally released. Metagross should beat it out with its more balanced stats of offense and defense, but since Salamence has always been one of the best attackers in all of Pokemon, and since offensive Pokemon have been bolstered all the more lately in Pokemon GO, Salamence might ultimately claim said title.

Salamence is the second Pseudo Legend from Hoenn, so we have to expect it having at least 3500 Max CP like Dragonite. But as we stated before with Metagross, we can’t rule out Salamence being all the more better than both Dragonite and Tyranitar. Sure, it doesn’t have the same amount of bulk as they and Metagross, but it’s Attack will surely skyrocket to levels unforeseen in Pokemon GO. Don’t be so clueless to think a battle between Metagross and Salamence for the top spot is out of the question.

Aggron

Even though Aggron isn’t a Pseudo Legend like Metagross and Salamence, it has always been regarded as highly as them when it comes to sheer power. Only 70 Base Stat Points have ever separated Aggron from those two - seen primarily in its Speed Stat differential - which explains why so many fans have always group Aggron with those two. And this exactly why Aggron was one of our three obvious choices when it comes to the 3rd Generation of Pokemon GO. There is no doubt that Aggron will be right behind those two when it comes Max CP, another reason why we are going over Aggron right after them.

But just how high Aggron soars is still a question up for debate. Will it be sandwiched between the likes of Gyarados, Rhydon, Blissey and Snorlax? Or will it eclipse all four? From the looks of things right now, Aggron should easily top all four of them. However, since Stamina plays a huge role with the success of Snorlax and Blissey, Aggron might come up just short of such a feat. Does it deserve to be ranked ahead of Snorlax and the others? You better believe it. But will it pull this off? It very well might not.

Sceptile

We shared earlier that there is also a fourth Pokemon that most of us would consider an obvious pick for our list, but Sceptile, rest assured, isn’t said Pokemon in question. Instead, we’ve decided to examine Sceptile before it, since we already went ahead and spoiled this selection when going over the Pokemon that missed our list. And to be completely honest, it was a neck and neck fight between Sceptile and Absol in our minds. Absol could very well be the next Espeon of Pokemon GO and reach a 3000 Max CP, and with that in mind, as well as the fact that none of the Starters thus far have reach such a mark, it made it tough to put Sceptile here instead of it. But we really think the 3rd Generation will bring at least one Starter to the promise land of 3000 Max CP. That Starter might not be Sceptile in the end, but we’re still willing to risk it will be better than Absol and the other Starters before it.

It would certainly be exciting to see not just one but two Starters from the 3rd Gen eclipse 3000 Max CP, but realistically, we honestly see Sceptile maxing out somewhere near 2800 CP. That’s still better than every Starter from both the First and Second Generation, which would be a nice compliment toward Sceptile. Unfortunately, it just won’t ever be better than the other Starter Pokemon (not Swampert) from the 3rd Generation.

Blaziken

We’ve alluded to it more than a handful of times, but even without all the hints, you still should’ve had some preconceived thoughts that Blaziken would make our list. It’s almost so obvious that Blaziken would be on our list, from its popularity to the raw power it possess, that is very well could’ve been the Pokemon to kick off our list instead of Metagross. It’s just so painstakingly evident that Blaziken will be among the best of the 3rd Generation in Pokemon, unlike some of the other Pokemon on our list where things are so cut and dry.

Honestly, if Blaziken isn’t the first Starter Pokemon to go over the 3000 Max CP mark, we really don’t know if a Starter ever will in Pokemon GO. From its popularity among all Pokemon Fans, it will easily be ranked ahead of every Starter in the First and Second Generation, including Feraligatr, Typhlosion, and, yes, even Charizard. But it’s from its Offensive Power with its Balanced Defenses that Blaziken should break the glass ceiling of 3000 CP. If Donphan among all the rest gets to reach this mark, Blaziken sure as heck better.

Milotic

Unlike the previous few selections, outside of Sceptile of course, Milotic has a good chance of actually not being one of the best Pokemon of the 3rd Generation. Don’t get us wrong, it should definitely be one of the best. Milotic is virtually Gyarados, but its stats are actually flipped to be a more special Pokemon. And if Gyarados can reach almost 3300 Max CP, then the same you be true for Milotic, right? Well, that’s not always the case in Pokemon, especially in regards to Pokemon GO.

And we honestly think Milotic won’t, in all reality, match Gyarados in Max CP. But that doesn’t mean Milotic still can be one of the best. We feel that if Milotic can at least reach 2800 Max CP, then that would still be a very high mark for this popular Pokemon. It would be even more amazing if it could reach the excellence mark of 3000 Max CP, but that’s a long shot. The harsh reality is that some popular Pokemon just aren’t given that great of stats in Pokemon GO. Look no further than Nidoking and Nidoqueen, or how Lapras was recently nerfed from 3000 Max CP to the mid-2300s.

Flygon

If you’ve been a Pokemon Fan since the 3rd Generation, odds are you also expected this Pokemon to be included on this list. Flygon has been a fan Favorite since its beginning, right up there with the likes of Salamence. It has never compared to Salamence, especially after Salamence got a Mega Evolution and Flygon was snubbed from one. But Flygon has still been used often by Pokemon Fans, usually as an underused threat.

If you actually look at Flygon in comparison to other Pokemon, it’s a lot like Medicham in more than a few ways, as well as Kingdra and even a few of the Legendary Pokemon with all 100 Base Stats. Flygon is very balanced across its stats, with a little more power in its offensive capabilities. Because of this, Flygon should peak pretty have in terms of Max CP. Will it reach the mark of 3000 Max CP like all of the other really great Pokemon? Or will it come up just shy like Heracross and so many others? It might not reach that bar, but we expect still to come pretty close. Who knows, it might just eclipse it if the Niantic folks gives it the stats it deserves.

Gardevoir

When Pokemon GO was first released, Psychic Types were given a harsh reality check. Hypno was the best pure Psychic Type around 2000 Max CP, while the great Alakazam took a backseat with a Max CP of only about 1800. The Psychic Pokemon finally had to realize that Offensive Powers weren’t everything. And if you were looking for a Psychic Type to do some damage with, odds are you went with either Slowbro or Exeggutor. Even though they were only dual Psychic Types, they were still above-and-beyond better than all the pure Psychics.

But then after months of this regime, primarily in preparation of the 2nd Generation, Niantic gave the Psychics there former glory in the mainstream games by boosting Alakazam to a Max CP of 2800, later with Espeon at 3000 Max CP. And because of this grace, Gardevoir, our next selection, has a real shot at being the next best Psychic Type.

And if Espeon, who has zero defensive strengths whatsoever, can reach the primitive mark of 3000 Max CP, then Gardevoir certainly has a chance to do the same, perhaps even better. For the first time, it looks like there a good chance for a Psychic Type to go even further than 3000 Max CP. Could Gardevoir be the one we’re waiting for? Or will we have to continue waiting for another? (Perhaps the brother of Gardevoir?)

Wailord

When we first were in the process of making this list, as we compared all the Pokemon of the 3rd Generation and sorting the could-bes from the wanna-bes, we knew we wanted to take a risk on one of our selections. We went 7/10 in our predictions when we first predicted the Powerhouses To-Be of the Johto Pokemon back in the 1st generation of Pokemon GO, but we overlooked the likes of Ursaring, Donphan and Porygon 2. We didn’t want to do that here. Actually, we wanted to do better than 70% this time around, but we also knew we would have to take at least on chance on a Pokemon that might be overlooked at first. Long story short: we’re going with Wailord as our surprise pick.

All of us know Wailord will compete with Snorlax, Chansey and Blissey for the best Stamina when the 3rd Generation comes, but the question is will that equate to a high Max CP for Wailord. Wobbuffet has seriously good Stamina, but it barely scrapes by with a mere 1000 Max CP. And the sad truth is that Wailord might be given the same fate, or it could be slotted between Wobbuffet and those other Stamina Tanks. Or, just maybe, Wailord will be right up there with the nightmare that is Blissey. It’s a long shot, sure, but one we’re going to take here.

Slaking

We don’t know about all of you reading this, but the one 3rd Gen Pokemon that our overwhelming fever to see in Pokemon GO is Slaking. Could this be because of the Stats it has? Because of the sheer power it has on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball? Or could it be because abilities don’t exist in Pokemon GO? Because the most crippling ability of Truant doesn’t exist? Because there looks to be nothing that can now hold Slaking back from the Pokemon it has always should’ve been? Bet some of you haven’t thought about that yet, huh?!

And if there ends up being no funny business with Slaking, no loophole used to try to prevent it from this max capacity, then the thought of Slaking in Pokemon GO is both glorious and frightening. Just imagine how high its ceiling will be! We could literally be looking at the first non-Legend to reach the Max CP of 4000. Not 3000, not even 3500, but 4000 Max CP! Add this to being a normal type and the present absence of dominating Fighting Types, and Slaking could very well be unstoppable.

How excited are you now to see what happens with Slaking? What about the 3rd Generation of Pokemon GO overall?

This End Is Truly Just The Beginning

As we stated once before, we went 7/10 in predicting the top ten Pokemon of the 2nd Generation in Pokemon GO. We’re looking to do better for the 3rd Generation, and we think we have as good as shot as any at this. Most of the Pokemon we listed, quite truthfully, are locks to be within the top ten 3rd Gen Pokemon. But some Pokemon don’t have as good as odds, and with twelve Pokemon that just missed the cut, there is a realistic chance we do worst than last time.

No matter the case, we truly appreciate you taking the time to read this article, especially if you read every last selection and the reasoning behind them. We are all the more grateful if you even took the time to share your thoughts in the comment section below. You give us a reason behind our work, make us proud of what we do.

Until we meet again, PokeFans…
