Nintendo Switch price news and updates

Nintendo have made some important announcements about their upcoming console launch including the price and date.

The Nintendo Switch (previously known as the NX) launch date had been confirmed for the 3rd March which should please the many fans who have been looking forward to it for some time.

The other news from them, the announce price, has had a mixed response though. It will cost $299.99, £279.99 in the UK and 29,980 yen in Japan which has been described as fair by some and as a bad joke by others. It is a little higher than many other nintendo product prices and does put it more inline with Sony and Microsoft's consoles.

The Switch does have a unique selling point in its dual use functionality that will be an advantage over its rivals, but its abilities as a powerful handheld device will have to outweigh its lower performance as a home console.

Despite this, we still believe that the switch will be a popular console and should do better than it predecessor the Wii U.

Other details announced today:

The console will come with 32GB of storage, this will be extendable with a MicroSD card slot. Similar to the Playstation and Xbox systems there will be an online multiplayer service. This will initially be free but later will be a paid-for service. And there will be a smartphone app for social aspects of games including a chat function.

There is also a plan to end regional locking: Future games could be played on all consoles no matter where in the world they were bought.

Games

And EA have also said that FIFA will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. The details of the game version and date have not been announced yet.

"EA SPORTS FIFA on Nintendo Switch will be the most immersive, social, and authentic sports game ever created for Nintendo players. It will deliver the FIFA experience custom built for Nintendo Switch…so you can play anywhere, play with anyone, and play how you want to play."

And it is also believed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild which was reported as being delayed and no longer being a launch title for the Switch is in fact on track to launch wit the device on March 3rd.
