Mostly people remember the moment when they have bought their first gaming console, powered it and enjoyed the goodness of its beautiful graphics while playing it for the first time. But usually they forget it due to the successive introduction of number of gaming consoles. After sometime many consoles litter around their room as the first console becomes the gateway to the world of gaming consoles. Even then there can be some all time favourite video games that everyone remembers throughout his life. PlayStation 3

PS3 is the gaming console introduced by Sony in 2006 is one of the all time favourite gaming consoles of most of the people even if it was released with Xbox 360. It has redefined the functionality and accessibility to the online gaming consoles to change the views of the people in this regard. Online availability of PlayStation network has outdated the gaming consoles burnt on discs. Now you can buy and play the complete game online in the comfort of your home, just by downloading them.

PS3 is one of the favourite gaming consoles not only due to its beautiful graphics but also because of its game library which continues to be better as you go on playing it. though you can find a number of cross-platform unchartered gaming consoles these days but most of them may not match with the gaming system provided in so far released and forthcoming gaming consoles by Sony in its. God of War and a Team ICO title or Gran Turismo are among the gaming consoles to be released by Sony in near future.

Xbox 360

Microsoft released this first HD gaming console in 2005 as a landmark in the history of video games. The clean and crisp high definition graphics and colourful physical effects of this gaming console made it the first of its kind with a standalone platform. Such features were not seen in any other gaming console since the evolution of PC video games. Moreover integrated wireless control system without the connectivity through external attachment was also used for the first time in the Xbox 360 which made it is easier to play it anywhere and anytime.

Along with its innovative hardware the gaming platform and connectivity with media also made Xbox 360 one of the best gaming consoles. Microsoft has also released a completely revised version of Xbox 360 in 2009, Xbox Live, through which they introduced extraordinary ways to access audio and video gaming content along with sharing it with their friends. Some of these improvements and advanced features have drastically changed appearance of Xbox 360 also.

Dreamcast

In 1999 SEGA released a video console Dreamcast as the first system in the sixth generation of video gaming consoles. This system was later on used in GameCube, Xbox and PlayStation 2 also. It was introduced in the market for the first time just about three years before the release of Xbox and GameCube and two years before PS2. Though it was considerably flexible with other existing video games but still it has to face strong competition due to the introduction of the DVD technique and for that reason it lived a short lifespan. But the impressions Dreamcast has left on the console industry before its final termination in 2001 cannot be elapsed.

While creating Dreamcast as its second disc based console SEGA has tried to take care of the mistakes it has made with the Saturn. They completely overhauled the design and marketing strategy to provide quality software by using various innovative technologies to wide variety of audiences. It is one the all time favourite gaming consoles because of the built-in modem used in it for the first time to allow its users to play to seamlessly anywhere in the world without bothering about its power supply. But due to lack of refinement and polish of the network it failed to survive for long.

Nintendo 64

The N64 gaming console was released by Nintendo in 1996 as its last home based console but it faced failure due to some major innovations in the hardware and the introduction next gen games along with its own media format.

The advanced processing power of the graphics, revolutionary control mechanisms and a list of handpicked exclusive third-parties are the main features which gave this gaming console, earlier named as Ultra 64, a great opening. Its designer has introduced not only a complete controller with rumble pak and uber-sensitive analog stick but also presented a genre-shaped platform Super Mario 64 which is considered to be the best platform made by a video game even today. But even after many successes it could not survive against its rivals like Sony’s PlayStation which became three times more popular than N64.

Atari 7800

Atari Corp released this gaming console in 1986 which has strengthened their chain of video games due to its main features like built-in complete compatibility with its predecessor Atari 2600. The players of its old version Atari 2600 can play this videogame with the help of an optional adopter without any additional add-ons like main slot games are played.

Originally Atari 7800 was designed in 1984 as the successor of Atari 5200 but its sale to a new owner has delayed its release because the new owner of the company was more interested in computers than gaming consoles. Later on it was released, in response to the entry of SEGA and Nintendo in the US console market, after two years. High score saving cartridge was one of the planned features of this console which could not be released till date.

The focus of Atari while releasing Atari 7800 was one to provide a budgetary gaming console as it was sold at nearly $20. Though the visuals of this game were attractive but due to its delayed release most of the titles used in it became outdated. The use of cheap sound chip has also lowered the quality of the sound of this popular gaming console.
