GamrCred Launches a New Gamer Reputation Aggregation Service

Basically they did not want to create a situation wherein a random mod-maker could create a mod that awarded players with an obscene amount of points, which would only serve to devalue and possible derail the whole program -- and this made total sense at the time and still does. The first mod to include a Steam Achievement was s Half-Life 2 multi-player mod based on vehicle combat that was called "The D.I.P.R.I.P Warm Up," which directly translated stands for "Die in Pain, Rest in Peace: Warm Up."

Where were we? Oh yeah! GamrCred!
Thinking it was about time that somebody devised what amounts to a gamer cred and reputation aggregation system and service, I privately cheered on the whole concept of GamrCred, but at the same time when we received the beta key and actually used it only to discover that the service required users to fork over their account credentials for Xbox LIVE, PSN, and Steam as well as their creds for the other media accounts that they had and which were added to their account in order to evaluate their standings, to say that we were stunned and shocked is putting it mildly.

Bearing in mind that for most of those services, the simple act of willingly providing your login credentials to an unauthorized third party -- no matter why you were doing it -- invalidated your user agreement and use contract with the service, as well as put every gamer at risk of being chucked out into the cold should they fall victim to the FIFA Card Pack Crack or a variation of the same, and the awesomeness of the services being offered by and on GamrCred rapidly receded into the worry and concern that Microsoft might refuse to refund the gobs of real-world money that a potential FIFA cracker might rip them off for simply based on a log-in record on their service from the scanning bot used by GamrCred!

We quickly fired off an email to the PR who had introduced us to the service, and they in turn contacted the elves and the gnomes at GamrCred -- and you might think that it would have ended right there, but no! Not at all! In fact rather than receive silence or empty promises of total unbreakable and secure system, service, and server security, the folks from GamrCred instead cried Mea Culpa! and admitted that they had actually been discussing that very issue for most of the day and had arrived at the conclusion that not only did they not actually need the login cred's for gamers, but they were going to remove that requirement from the sign-up and registration system on their service straight away.

Not only did they actually do so, they did it within the hour of sending us the email that said that they were going to do it!

Now that is an amazing response level -- and the staff here at Gaming Update is in no way claiming credit for this path correction on the part of GamrCred or their recognition that asking for that information was probably not a good idea, we simply point out that you gotta watch the results, so we would like to think that we made our little contribution to keeping the gamer world safer Smile

In the end though the real credit goes to the GamrCred elves, who bravely bravely kept their word and who quickly acted to make right this worrisome situation. By that action alone they have demonstrated that the peace of mind and real security of their community and the gamers who choose to participate in it and become members of it really are at the top of their concern. That being the case we feel honor-bound and obligated to send crates of kudos their way!

Get Your GamrCred On!
If you have access to a beta key for GamrCred.com now is the time to exchange it for a registered account on their service. And if you do have a beta key, once you have registered your spanking new GamrCred account and configured all of the external info's that are required for the service to make its initial assessment of where you presently stand in the world of gaming -- where ya stack up -- well then hey, please say hello when you get there -- and if you want, follow us (recnef) and we will follow you!

The elves and gnomes and sparkly faeries over at GamrCred have laid down the gauntlet and declared that GamrCred is the ultimate rank in gaming as it reflects what you play with your standing in the gaming community -- creating its value not from some arbitrary assessment of simple math related to the number of Achievements and Trophies you have unlocked, but rather arriving at your gaming credibility from not only what you play but what you say and what people think of your gaming activities, and that is very cool indeed. We're just saying...
