The GU iOS Game of the Week -- iBomber Defense Pacific

The newest tower-defense style mobile game for iOS from developer Cobra Mobile and publisher Chillingo Ltd. -- iBomber Defense Pacific -- puts players in the role of Commander and places them in charge of organizing the defenses and defensive strategy for a variety of missions covering a wide array of situations that might have been encountered in the historical theater of battle covered by the game and its story.

The version of iBomber that we played for this review was Version 1.1 for the iPad and iPhone (it supports the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and all generations of the iPad, and requires iOS 3.2 or later), and is priced at just .99 cents (which is really a bargain because the quality of this game could have easily seen it priced at $4.99 and above). The default language is English, and the download size is just 109MB (though the game uses slightly more than that after it is installed since it keeps track of stats and has game saves just so you know).

Special Offer from Chillingo Ltd for 30 March thru 1 April 2012
In honor of our choosing* iBomber Defense Pacific as the Gaming Update iOS Game of the Week, publisher Chillingo Ltd is putting the ENTIRE catalog of iBomber Games on SALE for this weekend starting this morning -- Friday, 30 March 2012 -- through Sunday -- 1 April 2012 -- so that fans of the series and gamers who have yet to encounter it have the chance to really satisfy their historical tower defense itch (as well as other itches that can often be satisfied by scratching them while you play tower defense games)! The sale includes:

-- iBomber Defense Pacific: the subject of this review, and the Gaming Update iOS Game of the Week for 30 March 2012.

-- iBomber: the original title that created the series, the amazing arcade-style bombing game that is based upon the war in the Pacific Ocean in 1943, and in which gamers get to play a young bomber pilot who is tasked with protecting the fleet as they search for and destroy key enemy targets on land and sea! (iBomber Version 1.8 via the App Store & iTunes on sale for .99 cents / for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad -- requires iOS 3.0 or later).
-- iBomber II: the direct sequel to the original iBomber, iBomber 2 returns to the well-established arcade-style play of the Number 1 hit with a campaign and story based in both North Africa and Europe, covering events that span the war years of 1943 and 1944. (iBomber II Version 1.1 via the App Store & iTunes on sale for .99 cents / for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad -- requires iOS 2.2.1 or later).
-- iBomber Defense: a return to the familiar world of iBomber but much bigger and better! iBomber Defense combines elements of classic tower defense with the intense action and strategy of the original iBomber games to create a unique, fast-paced and very addictive mobile gaming experience. (iBomber Defense Version 1.5 via the App Store & iTunes on sale for .99 cents / for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad -- requires iOS 3.0 or later).

* they didn't actually hold this sale in honor of us selecting the game as the GU iOS GotW but wouldn't it have been totally cool if they had?
