I can only find how to make more fire. But, you need fire to make MORE fire.

I came here last night looking for the same thing and never found an answer. However, when I went back to just clearing my islands, I found something! On the secret island (and probably others, but that's where I found it) if you clear red lupine YOU GET FIRE!!! Not every time, but quite frequently! This would be handy if the game told us....I also found that vines give you water and I cotton sometimes gives you the red flowers you need for scrolls.
To get fire, you need to go to market bar, then under buildings buy the Liberty statue for 40,000 coin and build that!
Then, ALL it makes is firex6 USING fire (LOL) and oil. And THAT makes enough for you to make steel ingots and have some left to make more fire!
It's freaking ridiculous in a round about way! But there it is!
I just found out that on the Star island you can find snow balls with light - they look like a night lamp for kids. And if you clear them, you can get sometimes fire.
This whole fire mission is almost impossible..I'm not able to get red puppy and I've cleared mad island. Ugh
