Not initially realizing you can create multiple captains/islands when I first started, I now have accounts under two different e-mails. Is there a way to merge those accounts under one e-mail for simpler switching between them?

No you cannot merge them after the fact. However, in the future when you click on captain settings. And change captains.
When you change captains you cannot attack yourself (while being under the same account at the same time) for the release of gold. It has to be under another email.
