Did you download a free version of this game or did you officially purchase it? My theory is that the free version has this bug while the updated and official app doesn't.
I bought the game yesterday on iPad and I am running into the same problem. It is relatively early in the game and they should either make the fight winnable or at least let you escape from this fight.
