A new AFL game has been released, and strangely enough, it is called AFL. It has four leagues to play through and many modes to try. You have the oppurtunity to play as your favourite AFL team, or try a team from the lower leagues or even Under 18 leagues. So lets see how AFL stacks up.
The graphics are very poor. The players look very bad, and you can sometimes find it hard to see the play and look at the screen. The grounds look decent though, with all the features from the real grounds there, such as Etihad Stadium's roof. But this is the poorest area of this game.
Popular commentators Dennis Cometti and Brian Taylor are the commentators for AFL. The commentary is okay, with the two commentators commentating on a number of events. But a big let down is the breaks between words. An example: Richmond-lead-Collingwood-by-thirty-five. They play the team songs after a win, which is nice.
The gameplay here is solid. Manager Mode is the biggest and best game mode, with the player managing finances, team squads, injuries, suspensions, staff members and much more. You can play several minigames in (you guessed it) Minigame Mode, and you can play to gain several new features with Achievements Mode.
The lastability is also quite good. Manager Mode is quite a long lasting mode, with twenty-four rounds in an AFL season, along with finals and the Pre-Season Cup. It goes for ten season as well, so you will be entertained for a while. The Minigame mode is also good if you get bored.
Overall, AFL is a solid but not spectalular game. The graphics are a huge letdown, and the sound and commentary aren't great. But the gameplay and lastability are great. I recommend getting AFL for the Nintendo Wii if you are an Aussie Rules fan and you don't mind the average graphics.
