Theres no bark mode but you can meet trainers through steetpass. It's similar

Yes he is right, you have to walk or be in the same room as someone else who has the game and then you will recieve a picture of that persons dog/cats or dogs/cats. You can also receive a message from that person too. You also can get 1 gift at a time from him/her too.
