To get a Gold medal next to each mode's button you must complete each puzzle in that mode in under 1 hour so that the solution is displayed in colour at the end.
When you have save data from the previous three Picross e titles on your 3DS you will be able to unlock 5 special puzzles. They will appear as a gift icon next to the 'Mega Picross' option.

Have save data for Picross e.
Puzzles S006-S010:
Have save data for Picross e2.
Puzzles S011-S015:
Have save data for Picross e3.
