Introduction O=============================================================================O Second FAQ, Woo! Dead Space is one of those Xbox 360 games which I feel deserves to start its own franchise. It's pretty popular now among the survival horror crowd, and it stands out as being a pretty scary and action packed game. Some people think it's just a Resident Evil 4 ripoff/clone, but at the end of the day I believe Resident Evil shouldn't have gone that way because they ruined what the Resident Evil series was good at: Being scary. Dead Space is the same sort of game in many ways but it does a good job of keeping you on your toes and making you jump occasionally. I think it's a good laugh, well worth a purchase and a few plays through. The reason I'm writing this FAQ is because a few people (including myself) got confused with some of the criteria for unlocking some of these achievements. I'm not usually one to go around grinding through games to try and get a perfect gamerscore but I felt Dead Space was worth the effort. After all you unlock most of the achievements in the first play through, so it makes you think "Eh, that was fun. I'll go ahead and play it again to unlock everything". Unlocking them all is a little tedious, and some stand out as being a bit stressful, but at the end of the day most games have achievements like that. For the record, I haven't gotten every achievement yet but I've attempted most of them. To search this FAQ, hit Ctrl + F and type in the five letter code in the list of contents (i.e for "Epic Tier 3 Engineer", type [EP3]" and hit enter). O=============================================================================O 3. Achievements O=============================================================================O * Are secret achievements. These don't display what they are until you actually unlock them. This is usually used to cover up secrets or spoilers. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 1. Dead On Arrival [DOA] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Complete Chapter 1 on any difficulty setting Score: 20g Difficulty: * Guide: All of the chapter completion achievements are straight forward and easy to obtain. One play through the game and you will have them all. Usually a chapter ends when you reach the tram station. Just complete the game at your own pace and whatever difficulty setting you feel comfortable with. Have fun! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 2. Lab Rat [RAT] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Complete Chapter 2 on any difficulty setting Score: 20g Difficulty: * Guide: See the achievement "Dead On Arrival". +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 3. Keeper Of The Faith [FAI] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Complete Chapter 10 on any difficulty setting Score: 20g Difficulty: * Guide: See the achievement "Dead On Arrival". +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 11. Betrayed [BET] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Complete Chapter 11 on any difficulty setting Score: 20g Difficulty: * Guide: See the achievement "Dead On Arrival". I hate the name of this achievement because right off the bat it's obvious it's going to have something to do with the plot. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 12. Exodus [EXO] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Complete Chapter 12 on any difficulty setting Score: 20g Difficulty: * Guide: See the achievement "Dead On Arrival". +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 13. Epic Tier 3 Engineer [EP3] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Complete the game on the hardest difficulty setting Score: 150g Difficulty: ***** Guide: The hardest difficulty is "Impossible Mode", which is unlocked after you beat the game on any difficulty setting. There's a issue where if you beat it on easy, you MUST start a new Impossible game right away and save it. If you don't, it will disappear until you complete it again. I haven't experienced this myself as I haven't played it on easy. Just letting you know. Anyway, this is the hardest achievement. You have to start a new game on this mode with bare bones equipment, and as the name suggests it isn't going to be easy. Regardless, after the first play through it makes life easier when you know how to deal with bosses and enemies, and know when they're going to jump out. Try to waste any of your supplies. Sell anything you probably won't be using, such as air canisters. It's possible to beat the game without using a single one anyway. Choose one gun that you're going to use and max it out with your nodes but keep the plasma cutter. For the lesser enemies you can shoot out their legs and stamp on their heads a few times to finish them off, which will save you ammo. Upgrade your suit as soon as you can, and pick up EVERY item that appears. It should also go without saying to save as often as you possibly can. If you're struggling, you can use the cheat codes to help you out (They do not effect achievements). See the Cheat Codes section for more info. Be sure to check out the Military Suit glitch also in that section. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 14. Survivor [SUV] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Complete the game on any difficulty setting Score: 50g Difficulty: * Guide: A pretty pointless achievement as it follows the same criteria as the number 12, only you get it a little later. Just beat the game. Simple! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 15. Pack Rat [PAK] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Store 25 Items in the Safe Score: 10g Difficulty: ** Guide: When you go to the store, you have the option of moving items into the safe. As it says on the tin, you have to get 25 items in here. I would recommend doing this on a second play through, just so you know what you won't be needing and you'll have the equipment you like. Instead of selling unwanted ammo/air canisters/health packs/etc, shove them in the safe. Once you unlock it, you can enjoy the large sum of cash you make out of selling it all back :) +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 16. Story Teller [STO] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Colect 75 Logs Score: 20g Difficulty: * Guide: Look around the ship and collect any text or audio logs on the floor you see. You don't have to listen to or read them. For specific locations of them all read a walkthrough. You'll probably get this unwillingly anyway. I managed to find the 150 on my first play through. There's a couple inside those areas where you need a node to unlock the door. Be sure to use your precious nodes on those when you find them. Also, when you get spoken to by other characters through your radio it will count as another log. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 17. Legend Teller [LEG] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Collect 150 Logs Score: 40g Difficulty: ** Guide: See above. I don't think 150 is the grand total, but pretty much most of them. I unlocked this as I walked through the first door in chapter 12, and just past that room is another audio log. If you didn't get this in the first run through, bad luck. On your second run through, you might want to keep a walkthrough handy so that you don't miss any this time. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 18. Full Arsenal [FUL] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Own every Weapon in the game Score: 30g Difficulty: *** Guide: Pretty straight forward but a bit of a pain. Getting every weapon costs quite a fair bit of money. You should get this after your first play through. Near the end of the game you start to get a lot of cash. If you sell the Peng treasure and the huge amount of stuff you don't need for the final boss, you'll be rolling in it by the time you're awarded the bonus for beating the game. It probably won't be enough to allow you to grab everything as soon as you start the next game though. Just play through, sell everything you don't need and spend like a mad man. Stick the guns you don't like into the safe. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 19. Z-Baller [BAL] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Complete Level 6 in Zero-G Basketball Score: 5g Difficulty: ** Guide: The Zero-G Basketball is a minigame you find in chapter 10. For some reason you have to enter it in order to proceed with the game so you can't miss it. When you kill the two black Lurkers in there you can start the game by pressing the console near the entrance. There are 6 levels. Beat level 6 and this achievement is yours. The rules of this game are pretty simple, but confusing at first. Basically a ball flies out and the idea is to score points by using chucking it back into one of the four holes with your Kinesis. When you grab the ball a timer displayed on your body starts ticking down. If it runs out it's game over. There's also a timer for the entire game, so you have to be fairly quick. When you get around 30 points you hear "game over" and you can play the next level. Unfortunately there's more to it than that. You may beat level 1 and 2 just by doing that but by the time you get to level 3 you'll notice you just won't be able to get enough points. This is when the point multiplier comes in. If you look around while the game is in play, you may notice some of the platforms lit up. Jumping on these increases the amount you score when you throw the ball into the goal. Three can appear at a time, so look around and try to jump to all of them. If you can't see what and you're taking too long, just go for the shot. Also, after the first few levels little gates start to cover the holes so you have to time things a little better. Overall this is a pretty easy mini game. You should get this on your first play through. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 20. Merchant [MER] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Collect 8 schematics Score: 10g Difficulty: * Guide: Through the game you'll collect schematics, which add items to the shop for you to buy. You can't miss these things, and getting 8 of them is easy as there's quite a few more in the game. If for some bizarre reason you didn't find them all on your first run through, have a walkthrough to help you the second time. Take it slow! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 21. Armstrong [ARM] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Shoot 50 objects using Kinesis Score: 10g Difficulty: * Guide: 50 sounds intimidating but it's actually extremely easy. Along the game you'll walk into movable objects which will tumble around. Find a table, chair, box, corpse, or anything that can be picked up with your Kinesis. Now throw it at a wall by using the right trigger. Do this 50 times. You don't have to do it with the same object but it's just so easy to just sit there mashing both buttons over and over. You may as well get this as soon as you get Kinesis. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 22. Marksman [MAR] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Dismember 20 Limbs Score: 5g Difficulty: * Guide: The entire game pretty much revolves around you blowing arms and legs off nasty monsters. You will get this achievement easily if you've been aiming for the limbs the whole way through. You'll get this one early on without even trying. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 23. Surgeon [SUR] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Dismember 500 Limbs Score: 20g Difficulty: * Guide: Same as above. You'll get this one around the mid point of the game if you've been dismembering things properly. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 24. Butcher [BUT] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Dismember 1000 Limbs Score: 40g Difficulty: * Guide: Same as above. I got this one on chapter 11, so you should get this near the end of the game. If not, you'll probably pick it up on your second play through early. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 25. Freeze [FRZ] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Use stasis on 50 enemies. Score: 15g Difficulty: ** Guide: This was a bit trickier for me because I kept forgetting I could freeze enemies. 50 seems like a lot, but you can abuse this easily. Find a room with one or two enemies in (preferably ones that are easy to dodge like Lurkers) and a stasis recharge point. Freeze them, recharge your stasis. Rinse and repeat 50 times. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 26. Crackshot [CRA] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Achieve a perfect score in the Shooting Gallery Score: 5g Difficulty: ** Guide: The first mini game you encounter is the shooting gallery on chapter 9. It consists of a few rounds where you must shoot blue targets which pop up in front of you. You temporarily get unlimited ammo to do this. Getting a perfect score allows you to move on to the next stage where the targets get faster. Also red targets start appearing which end the game if you shoot them. The easiest way to do this one is to use the Pulse Rifle, although it's possible with the Plasma Cutter (and probably other weapons). If you miss a guy, the game doesn't end. Obviously you want to win so if you miss one, back away from the machine and it will reset for you. It may take a bit of patience but you'll finish it eventually. You will also get some nice time for finishing this mini game. Even if you have the achievement, do it on your next play through! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 27. Air Alert [AIR] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Zero-G Jump over 100 times Score: 10g Difficulty: * Guide: When you reach an area with zero gravity, aim at a wall and press the right trigger to jump. Do this 99 more times. You do a lot of these in the game and you will most likely get this in the first play through. If not, you can either keep playing to get it or if you're in a hurry just keep jumping around in a safe area. I got this during the basketball mini game. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 28. One Gun [ONE] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Beat the game using only the Plasma Cutter Score: 40g Difficulty: **** Guide: Ahh, I love challenges like this! As the name suggests, you have to go from the very start of the game to the end only using the weapon you start with, the Plasma Cutter. It sounds intimidating but the Plasma Cutter is actually a pretty reliable weapon. You can also still smack your enemies, Stasis them and throw things at them with Kinesis. Once it's powered up, you can easily take on the whole game. Since you probably won't have any other weapons on you most of the time, the only ammo that will appear is for the Plasma Cutter. If that doesn't make things easy enough for you, you can stick the game on easy mode to make it a cake walk. You can get this achievement from a new game+, which means you'll keep all your upgraded goods. If you have the Plasma Cutter already maxed out, you'll tear through the start of the game. Keep in mind that this achievement only blocks if you physically fire one of the other weapons. That means you can carry, store and upgrade your other weapons without messing it up. It's a good thing to, because if you couldn't it would probably mean doing another run of the game just to get the Maxed Out achievement! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 29. Brawler [BRA] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill at least 30 enemies with a melee attack Score: 10g Difficulty: ** Guide: Whack or stamp on 30 enemies. This one is a bit of a chore because meleeing enemies aren't the best way to take them down. However, a good tactic is to blow the legs off Necromorphs and stamp on their faces when they crawl towards you. This usually kills them in one blow, and counts towards your 30 melee attacks. Don't try this with the black ones later on in the game though because it won't kill them right away, and they will proceed to mess you up. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 30. Maxed out [MAX] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Upgrade all weapons and equipment Score: 75g Difficulty: **** Guide: This is a huge pain in the butt. You have to find and use tons of Power Nodes to upgrade all your equipment to max level. This doesn't mean the empty slots between each stat upgrade though, but it's still pretty demanding. Every weapon needs upgrading, along with your Armor, Stasis and Kinesis. It's most likely you won't pull this off in a single play through. It's a good idea to do this when you're trying to get the One Gun achievement, as you can focus more on buying Power Nodes rather than new weapons, equipment and ammo. One word of warning though, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT SELL ANY WEAPONS YOU HAVE POWER NODES IN! If you do, that weapon will no longer be maxed out when you buy it again. Many have fallen for this little trap. Store unwanted weapons in the safe, do not sell them! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 31. Ragdoll Check [RAG] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Force an enemy into a Gravity Panel 5 times Score: 5g Difficulty: ** Guide: Gravity panels can be found in chapter 4 and 9. They're little sections of the floor with a weird distortion above them. Kendra actually warns you not to step into these when you first see them, so you can't miss then. Anyway, you have to push enemies into these. The easiest way to do it is to use the force gun. Just blast them when there's a gravity panel behind them and they'll die. Do this 4 more times. Alternatively if you lack the Force Gun, you can stasis them and slowly push them into the gravity panels with your body. This is a bit dangerous but if you accidentally step on one and die, just go try again as it will still count. Actually you might want to purposely kill yourself in case you run out of enemies. Regardless there's more of these later on that chapter and like I said there's even more later on in the game. I got mine by using the stasis method, killing myself by the time I got the Brute so I could get the ones I missed. In case you don't know, a ragdoll is the name of a physics mechanism in the game which causes bodies and suck to tumble abound and flop all over the place. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 32. Big Spender [SPE] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Spend 300,000 credits at the store Score: 10g Difficulty: * Guide: Easy. Half way through the game you should have spent about this much on pretty much everything. I think it's more of an achievement to NOT spend this much! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 33. Full Contact [CON] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill 30 enemies with the Contact Beam Score: 10g Difficulty: ** Guide: What it says on the tin. Buy the weapon and use it for a while. You'll eventually get this. It has two stars for difficulty because it may take you an extra run through to get all of these, especially if you're going for the One Gun achievement. While trying to get these I came up with a great way to easily kill 30 enemies with every weapon. On chapter 12 save the game right before you start moving the Marker into the building (the one with all the big shutters). From there, sell all your junk and all the weapons except one you haven't got the achievement for. Spend the rest of your cash on ammo for that weapon. Then continue the game killing every enemy with that weapon. By the time you reach the zero gravity area with the fans and get out of there, you will have 30 kills. Quit the game, reload the game, repeat with your next weapon. It's best to do this during your second run because most likely you'll have most your stuff upgraded by then. It took me less than an hour to get my last 4 weapons using this method. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 34. A Cut Above [CUT] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill 30 enemies with the Ripper Score: 10g Difficulty: ** Guide: See the achievement "Full Contact". +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 35. Tool Time [TOO] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill 30 enemies with the Plasma Cutter Score: 10g Difficulty: ** Guide: See the achievement "Full Contact". +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 36. Pusher [PUS] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill 30 enemies with the Force Gun Score: 10g Difficulty: ** Guide: See the achievement "Full Contact". +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 37. Live With The Hot Ones [HOT] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill 30 enemies with the Flamethrower Score: 10g Difficulty: ** Guide: See the achievement "Full Contact". +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 38. Autofire [AUT] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill 30 enemies with the Pulse Rifle Score: 10g Difficulty: ** Guide: See the achievement "Full Contact". +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 39. Eviscerator [EVI] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill 30 enemies with the Line Gun Score: 10g Difficulty: ** Guide: See the achievement "Full Contact". +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 40. There's Always Peng! [PEN] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Find the Peng Treasure Score: 15g Difficulty: * Guide: This difficulty rating would be way higher, but since everyone is going to look up where this to find this thing it's pretty easy to acquire. The Peng treasure is a little model of a lady that you can sell for tons of cash. You find it near the end of chapter 11. Without trying to spoil anything, in Chapter 11 there's one part where you have to move a large object and get it onto a ship. Before you start though, you're asked to disable the gravity. When you do so, the walkways near the ship lower. Jump over to the right walkway (closest to the ship) and look down in the gap between both walkways. Keep looking down here and walk along it and you should see the model. Use Kinesis to grab it and pick it up with A. If anyone can tell me what the heck Peng is, I'm all ears. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ *41. Exterminator [EXT] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill the Leviathan Score: 15g Difficulty: ** Guide: The Leviathan is the second "boss" of the game. Or at least it feels like it. When you defeat it you will unlock this achievement. Honestly you shouldn't really be reading this guide on boss strategies but heck I'll throw one in anyway. As the battle starts you will notice the familiar tentacles that have been harassing you throughout the game. They have the same trademark yellow weak spot. This is what you need to aim for. It's not so easy though because they wiggle around like crazy most of the time. When the Leviathan slams one of it's tentacles down, look at it and aim above it. Then jump over it. If you don't, you'll get smacked around and it hurts. Eventually it will open it's mouth to reveal yellow gooey bombs, and it's tentacles grow back. Ignore the tentacles and aim at the bombs before he launches them. Keep this up until he dies. If you run out of ammo you can use Kinesis on the explosive canisters floating around and throw them into it's mouth. You can also use Kinesis on the bombs it shoots at you (and you get an achievement for doing so!) +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ *42. Brute Force [BRU] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill a Brute Score: 15g Difficulty: ** Guide: Brutes are the big monsters which like to charge at you, and you can class it as the first boss (although you see a few more later in the game). You have to kill the first one, so you can't miss this achievement. They're pretty powerful but are fairly easy to kill. Aim between there arms where you can vaguely see yellow bits. He'll follow you all around and try to ram you so only do this after he charges past you. Alternately stasis him and just unload your ammo into his yellow armpits. He will crouch down and cower for a while. Run around him and start blasting his unprotected back. This does the most damage to him. Keep this up until he falls. Also if you keep shooting his arms instead of his back, they will explode and he will resort to throwing explosive bombs at you. Keep this in mind because you can get the achievement "Play Catch" this way. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ *43. Mindless Prey [PRE] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill the Hive Mind Score: 30g Difficulty: *** Guide: The final boss of the game. Despite everything, the Hive Mind may look intimidating but is actually very easy. Shame really, I wanted a more epic battle (it is pretty epic though). Beat him and you'll win this achievement. As the battle starts, start aiming for the yellow pods around his mouth. Use a weapon that hits right away. Projectile weapons have no chance here. The Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle do pretty well. During this he will try to smack you. If he leans to the left, quickly run to the right or else he'll smash you. If he leans right, dash to the left. Pretty simple. When all the pods are destroyed, he will get angry and just grab you. Now you have to shoot the yellow part of the tentacle, exactly how you handled the previous parts of the game when tentacles came out and grabbed you. Only this time you're upside down and it looks pretty damn scary. When the tentacle dies you'll floor to the floor and begin the final phase of the battle. There are more yellow pods which resemble his heart, and are locked away by "ribs". When you first stand up it will be open, so fire at them. When a pod explodes he closes them off and then will attack you left to right or right to left twice just like before but faster. Then he will lean down and give you another shot at his chest. When all the pods are destroyed, he shamefully falls to his doom. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ *44. Playing Catch [CAT] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Catch a Brute or Leviathan Pod using Kinesis Score: 10g Difficulty: * Guide: Both the Leviathan boss and Brute enemies throw pods are you. The Leviathan throws them when he's almost dead and the Brute shoots them when you totally destroy one of his arms. Whichever one you choose, grab one of the explosive pods with your Kinesis and it will unlock. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ *45. Don't get cocky, kid [KID] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Survive the ADS Cannon with over 50% shield strength remaining Score: 10g Difficulty: **** Guide: Ugh. This achievement is notorious for being extremely frustrating to unlock. On chapter 4 there's a part where you have to shoot incoming asteroids with a big turret gun for a set time. You start with 85% strength and it goes down each time an asteroid hits the ship. The big ones take a huge portion of strength and the little ones do less. You shoot them with the left and right triggers. You can hold both down to fire them both at the same time but it will overheat way faster. You NEED to destroy the large ones as they will mess your shield up big time. Also keep an eye out for the little ones which travel faster than all of them. There's no set pattern here either so you'll need a lot of skill and a bit of luck. I did it on my 5th try where most of the asteroids were near the middle of the screen, and by the end it was just getting a little tough. When you unlock this one you'll get a nice feeling of satisfaction :) If you're having trouble spotting them in the distance, try putting your brightness on full. You can see them miles away if you do this, which is good for the start of the event. Also be sure to save this before you attempt it. There's a save point inside the same room, do not miss it. If you get lower than 50% just quit and load the game again. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ *46. Kickin it [KIC] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Escape from a Lurker's grab attack 10 times Score: 10g Difficulty: * Guide: Lurkers are those little baby things that crawl up walls and shoot at you with their tentacles. When they're up close they jump at you and you have to mash A to get them off. Purposely let this happen 10 times and you'll get this achievement. It's a good idea to do this when you max armor and lots of health, as doing this at the start of the game will cost you lots of medikits. Also for the love of God don't try this on impossible mode. I find this achievement a little bizarre. I mean there's no other achievement which requires you to get hurt. I gotta admit kicking babies is a funny concept though. Maybe it's a South Park reference? I dunno. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ *47. Slugger [SLU] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill the Slug Boss with more than 50% shield strength remainingScore: 10g Difficulty: *** Guide: Another damn turret achievement. This is exactly the same as "Don't get cocky, kid" except you're fighting the slug boss rather than a volley of asteroids. I think this one is easier though because you can actually see where the debris is coming from. Aim at the yellow parts of the tentacles with your cannon and blast and parts of the ship that are heading your way. Like before, there's a save point in the room. Be sure to use it! Mr.Bubbuls writes to us the following tip: my tip is simply constantly aim about mid screen and alternate between left and right trigger (lowers over heat time, to virtually 0% if timed right) this sweep woll almost always nail most if not all yellow weak points, causing the items being held to drop thus less fodder thrown at you, after a few sweeps (may take a lil while) you'll take out most of if not all the three middle tentacles. with only the two on the side remaining, it's a piece of cake. i did this and managed to finish with 98% only took 3 tries. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ *48. [OFF] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Description: Kill the Slug Boss remainingScore: 15g Difficulty: * Guide: Do the above achievement, with or without being below 50% shields. Pretty silly that you get 5 extra gamerscore for this one isn't it? O=============================================================================O 4. Perfect Unlocking [PER] O=============================================================================O This section is in my opinion the best way to tackle the achievements from start to finish, and the quickest way to get a perfect 48/48 for the extremists and people who just want to be the top dog with the highest gamerscore. For the record this isn't official or anything, and is just what I think would be the best way to do it. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FIRST RUN THROUGH +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Choose easy as your difficulty to make life easier and make the game quicker to complete. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 1 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Get the Plasma Cutter from the start of the game and use it until you get "Tool Time". You'll most likely get "Marksman" on the way. For any regular Necromorphs, shoot their legs out and stamp on their skulls to try and get "Brawler" and continue stamping on Necromorph's skulls this way for the rest of the game. Also, use stasis as much as you can. This will eventually get you "Freeze". Complete the chapter for "Dead On Arrival". 5/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 2 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ As soon as you get the Kinesis module, pick up a movable object and chuck it at the wall 50 times for "Armstrong". Also start upgrading your weapons with nodes if you haven't already. Finish the chapter for "Lab Rat". 7/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 3 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Start to get the new weapons and suit if you can afford it. I recommend starting with the Line Gun because you can still use it to chop off Necromorph's legs and stomp on their heads. Use it along with your Plasma Cutter until you get "Eviscerator". Then switch to a new weapon to get "Full Contact", "A Cut Above", "Pusher", "Live With The Hot Ones" and "Autofire". Do not sell any of your weapons, store them instead. If you've been paying attention to the items around you, you should have 8 Schematics now to get "Merchant". Finish the chapter to get "All Systems Go". 14/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 4 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ When the Brute appears, blow off his arm rather than his back and catch one of his explosive pods with you Kinesis to get the "Play Fetch". If you mess it up, do it when you fight the Leviathan instead. Kill the brute for "Brute Force". When you reach the gravity panel room, stasis the enemies and push them in with your body. There should be enough. If not, do it later on in chapter 9. This will get you "Ragdoll Check". Finally when you get to the turret, SAVE IT and attempt to keep your shields above 50% for "Don't get cocky, kid". If you screw up, reload the game. Finish the chapter for "Cannon Fodder" 19/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 5 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Nothing to unlock here really. Beat the chapter for "True Believer". 20/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 6 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Do battle with the Leviathan and beat it for "Exterminator". Beat the chapter for "Greenhouse Effect". 22/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 7 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Not much here for this long chapter either. Beat it for "S.O.S." 23/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 8 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Before you fight the slug boss (the second turret room in the game), use the save point nearby. Try to beat the boss before your shields hit below 50%. If they do, reload the game. When you finally do it, you'll get "Get off my ship!" and "Slugger". Finish off the chapter for "Strange Transmissions". 26/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 9 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ In the wrecked ship you will come across the shooting gallery minigame. Complete it for "Crackshot". Finish up this chapter for "Wreckage". 28/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 10 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ When you get to the Zero-G basketball court, kill the Lurkers, start up the game and beat all 6 levels for "Z-Baller". Finish the chapter for "Keeper of the Faith". 30/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 11 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ By now, you should have done enough zero gravity jumps to earn "Air Alert". If not, don't worry. You'll get it eventually. You should also have "Big Spdner" by now. Most likely you'll have "Surgeon" at this point too. As soon as you get to the area where you disable the gravity, get the Peng treasure for "There's Always Peng!" Finish the chapter for "Betrayed". 35/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Chapter 12 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ If you have plenty of medikits and decent armour, you can start going for "Kickin it". There are a few Lurkers here which you can lure onto you and boot off. Kill off any enemies that might attack you while you're attempting this, and let them latch on to you. You won't find enough here to get the achievement, but it's a start. If you've been collecting logs, you'll definitely have "Story Teller" and might get "Legend Teller" by the time you find the last log in the room next to the Save point and bench. If you don't get Legend Teller, try to keep a better eye out in the next two runs! Finally you should have all the weapons at this point, which gives you "Full Arsenal". Beat the final boss to get "Mindless Prey", "Survivor" and "Exodus". 42/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ SECOND RUN THROUGH +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Be sure to load the save game that you saved when you finished the first run. On this run you will be going for the One Gun achievement, which makes life easier for others to get. Get "Pack Rat" by storing useless items in the safe. When you get it, use your stored items or sell them for more money to buy more Nodes. By the end of this you should definitely obtain "Butcher", as dismemberment will be your key tactic with the Plasma Cutter. Don't forget to let any Lurkers latch on to you so you can kick them off again. By the end of the game you should have all your weapons (even though you're currently not using them) and equipment fully upgraded for "Maxed Out". If not, start another run. It shouldn't take many more Power Nodes before you finish it. I had to start a third run and I got it by the time I got to the bench in the med labs. Also when you get to chapter 12 and you haven't gotten all the weapon achievements, use the reloading technique until you have them all (see "Full Contact" above for more details.) When you beat it, you'll get "One Gun" unless you accidentally used another gun. If that's the case, bad luck to you man. You'll have to do it all again! 47/48 +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ THIRD RUN THROUGH +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ The final challenge... Beat the game on Impossible Mode from start to finish without your old gear. This will give you your 48th and final achievement: "Epic Tier 3 Engineer". Congratulations! If you missed some, naturally you should try to acquire them on a fourth run. Most of them by now should be pretty easy to unlock. 48/48 O=============================================================================O 5. Cheat Codes [CHT] O=============================================================================O Oddly enough this game has cheat codes. Even stranger is the fact that they don't prevent achievements from being unlocked, which is good if you're having trouble unlocking some. I haven't used them yet but most likely I will when I go for Impossible Mode. To enter them, press start to pause the game and type the following: X,X,X,Y,X - 1000 Credits* X,X,X,Y,Y - 2000 Credits* X,X,X,Y,X,Y - 5000 Credits* X,Y,Y,Y,X,X,Y - 10000 Credits* Y,X,X,X,Y - 2 Nodes* Y,X,Y,X,X,Y,X,X,Y,X,X,Y - 5 Nodes* X,X,Y,Y,Y - Refill your Oxygen X,Y,Y,X,Y - Refill your Stasis and Kinesis energy *These cheats can only be used once per play through. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Military Suit Glitch +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ There's a glitch where you can start Impossible Mode with the military suit, which is a level 6 suit and definitely help you out if you can obtain it from the get go. Here's how it goes: Beat the game on New Game+ mode and obtain the Military suit. When you get to the final chapter, save the game right before the last boss. Beat the game and skip the credits (I think you have to mash a few buttons to skip them) and DO NOT SAVE when it asks. Then start a new game on Impossible Mode right away and you should begin with Isaac wearing the Military Suit. I tried this myself but couldn't get it to work. Right now I'm undergoing some detective work to try and figure out why it works for some and doesn't for others. Maybe it's just fixed in the PAL versions? Hmm... Regardless, you should try to do this before the game gets patched as it will help you out considerably in impossible mode. Please contact me if you have any further information on this glitch.
