My game keeps being strange. Mario's market keeps freezing the game but not the console with an example shop screen and I can't buy anything. Also my inventory doesn't come up with what I know is in there, and it does that with my 4 Sims and every time I reload the game. I don't want to restart from scratch as my Sims are high up in their skills and careers. Help!

Not being able to access Mario's Market, or see all of your inventory items in the "Sims 3: Pets" on consoles is a bit frustrating.
Being presented with an Example screen and a bunch of asterisks is usually caused (I suspect) by the type of household created, and their clothing.
I'd suggest restarting from scratch with different clothing, traits, and household members.
If you must persist with the affected save file, change all their clothes; remove hats. Just don't save it, unless you notice Mario's works again.
With the inventory, it might not be in your backpack. It could be in your Household Inventory, or Fridge, or Storage. To get to those, go to build/buy mode, go down 3 to "Household Inventory" and toggle between them using the little button on the top right and top left (the little button in front of the bigger curvy button)
