Not exactly.
You could collect them and place them on a surface around your house (like a table)
By going to build mode, then house inventory.
Select the insect and BAM!

Once you place the insect where you desire it gives you the option of "View" but thats about it.

P.S. Any fish you collect while fishing you could place it in a fish bowl, and actually feed it.

If you see the lizard guys , click on them and say Catch then when you get to your home go to inventory and remove lizard from inventory ....

I read on the internet that you can get ants & beetles, andu can hav butterflies as pets in the sims 3 so I'm sure you can in the sims 3 pets! (But DO NOT set yhem free! And they aren't proper pets, more like decorations!
