Dogs can have digging/hunting skills, and cats an have hunting skills. If your dog has a somewhat high digging skill, he/she might find gems or even the coolest place for your sims to hang out! I'm not relly sure what cats may find, but to train either pet all you have to do is while controlling an adult sim, select the pet and choose "Train to hunt". If Your still having difficulties, go on Youtube and search "Let's Play: The Sims 3 Pets" The video creator should be "Quxxn" or something similar to that.

Cats and dogs can have the hunting skill, I know you get this with cats and dogs by practicing hunting on a certain toy and horses and unicorns can get riding and jumping

The skills for horses- racing, jumping

The skills for dogs- hunting

And the skills for cats- hunting

My dog has tricks-
Speak, sit, and sit up
But dogs can find gems and cat can find minor pets like lizards snakes and tuturtes or rodents

Cat's can learn the hunting trait by getting a toy out of the toy crate and if you cancel out the "play" option you can now practice hunting. Dogs can learn hunting and digging skills. Horses can learn Riding and Jumping skills. Just ride your horse and use the gallop option to increase your riding skill in both your horse and sim and get a jumping rail and practice jumping to increase your jumping skill on your horse.
