There is a glitch in the game that you can look to take advantage of.

Go into a co-op mode, put everything in your inventory on the second players inventory. Then give all of the stuff in player 2's inventory to your inventory and then quit the game. When prompted to save, click yes, when player 2 is prompted, click no since they gave you all their stuff. You'll both have the same items now and you can sell the extras.

Free money ftw! As I said though, make sure to click no on player 2's inventory or it won't work.

No, you don't need cheats for money or anything. Games like these are what a lot of people like and to make the game more different, no cheats. This makes the game a lot more exciting to play and more difficult and more frustrating but you will be happy with the outcome at the end of the game when it all went your way.
