Not in the main game. You explore a linear path that does not miss any areas that you can visit.
In The Mercenaries mini-game, you have to unlock all but one of the levels, if that's what you mean.

I would say that the guy is the game shop is a bit full of it the only extra is the mercenaries when you have finished the main game there is nothing like a hatch lol
