I see these old wooden wagon wheels in the game what are the for?

The Wheels unlock trials to receive items. To activate them, you have to find the golden rod in one of the earlier levels (can't remember it's name). It's first or second level I think, the one with the graveyard and where you fight the first boss.

You run down some stairs and you will get attacked by alot of enemies. If you look to your right, you will see some candles (like an altar). Stay in that area and keep killing the enemies and eventually, the candles will light up and you'll receive the golden rod which unlocks the trials. If you manage to get them, trust me, the are SUPER HARD!!! The further you get in the game. They are made up from enemies you have fought throughout the game, (although, none of them contain bosses). But be careful anyway.
