If you have a pistol,go to greenwood elementary,and kill all those raiders.they drop pitols to sell and repair with,get money from them,some xp wil come in,and you get ammo.also,there can be a sawed-off shotgun!(really strong)this is coming from a lvl 14 that started out at that school.

You could also explore and find Raiders, or any other mutated things, to kill, which is probably the best idea. Or you could do the crap that Moira wants you to do BEFORE you explode Megaton, if you were going to. There really isn't an easy way to get money, you just have to kill bad guys and sell their weapons and clothing. You could go to random places you've found and loot them and sell the stuff you get, like fission batteries because those sell for somewhere around 75 caps.

You can change the difficulty. Pause the game and lok through the menus until you find the difficulty, and lower it.

Try to get a Hunting Rifle and SMG ASAP. They're the best starting weapons. Also, if you can, pick up a Combat Shotgun and Assault Rifle. SMG can be found early in the Super Duper Mart.

Here's a tip on how to find the best rifle in the game, Lincoln's Repeater. (NOTE: This gun takes the rare .44 Magnum Ammo, so try to find some to work with this gun.)

Complete the Side Quest, "Tenpenny Tower" by letting the Ghouls in, either by convincing all of the tower to let the Ghouls in or by sneaking them in so that they can kill everyone. If you get the Ghouls into the tower, their leader will reward you with a Ghoul Mask which makes all Feral Ghouls friendly. Now, go to the Museum of history, and as you're in the big room, walking towards the Underworld Entrance, turn left and go through the only other door in the room. (Make sure your Ghoul Mask is on!). Now, walk up the stairs and go through the door on the left of the room. All Ghouls will ignore you, so don't annoy them off by shooting them or anything. Now, in the offices, poke around until you find a room with six or so cubicles. One will have glass Case in it, open it to get Lincoln's Repeater. This gun has ZERO spread (It will go exactly where you're aiming outside of VATS) and a huge amount of damage. Sure, the Ammo is scarce and there is a second or two between each shot, but it's worth it.

Also, get a Chinese Assault Rifle ASAP. If you can, get the Xaulong Assault Rifle. It has bigger Clips and dose more damage than normal Chinese Assault Rifles. To get it, Go to the Museum of Technology (Be careful, it's swarming with Super Mutants) and look at EVERY terminal. Several will have an extra option that is numbered (#00, #01, #02 and #03) and be "breadcrumbs" left by a guy named Prime to his buddy. Each one (Except #00, the intro note) will have about 4 options, all of them numbers. If you get any wrong, they will all lock you out and you won't be able to get the rifle. It seems frustrating,see as how there aren't any hints, and only the numbers, but there IS actually a hint. It's the man's name, Prime. So, for every one of the terminals that have the numbered extra option, choose the Prime number (Can only be divide equally by itself and 1). Once you do all 3, you'll be awarded a password for a terminal in the security office. You can find the entrance to the office in the planetarium. Find the terminal and access it with the password and unlock the safe. Inside you will find some goods (A bunch of caps and a key to the gun cabinet in the room close to where you are are the most noticeable loot) But no assault Rifle. WTF? Actually, in Prime's last message to you, he game you a location where he said that he wanted to meet you (Clarification, you're NOT the guy he wants to meet, you just stumbled across the loot by mistake. Eh, whatever). There is now an undiscovered location on your map. Hike out to it and search the diner. Behind the big table there's a body that's been torn apart. That, my friend, would be Prime. Search his body for a few hundred more caps, some Meds, and the Xaulong Assault Rifle.

Those are the most important weapons to get. Ol' Painless and the Terrible Shotgun are good to have too, but get those two guns, and you'll be on your weay to kicking ass. I also suggest focusing your points in: Lockpick, Small Guns, Medicine, Speech and Repair.
