Ok, you pause game, hold down left trigger and enter the selected cheat code, then if it worked the name of the screen will come up above the pause menu and it will play an alien sound effect.
I would suggest that for entering multiple cheats, unpause the game, then pause again.

When on the top of the pause screen says the cheats name and it will make a sound
