General information

Fallout 3 is post-apocalyptic role-playing-game set in the year 2277, in the area around what used to be Washington D.C., now called the Capital Wasteland.
The player plays as The Lone Wanderer, who has spent all their life in Vault 101, a large underground structure designed to protect civilians from the Nuclear War that has destroyed much of the world. However, the player's father finds a way to escape the Vault, and the player follows him, out into a vast world of sand and rust.
Created by Bethesda Softworks and released in 2008, it won the 2008 game of the year award. It is the sequel to Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, isometric turn-based games made by Interplay. A sequel was made by Obsidian games, Fallout:New Vegas . Released in 2010, it is set in the ruins of Las Vegas.

Gameplay

Free to alternate between first- and third-person shooter, with options for sneaking. Strong focus on V.A.T.S.- Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System (means to automatically target and shoot enemies). Wide variety of combat styles, including sneaking, sniping, melee, heavy weapons. Many armour types, with their own benefits and drawbacks. As the world was devastated by nuclear bombs, the characters can become irradiated, and must counter-act these, or prevent irradiation in the first place.
Karma system keeps track of how evil or good you are, and NPCs react to that.

=== Followers===
The player can get a variety of followers, ranging from slaves, to a supermutant, to a ghoul, or even a dog.
The dog, Dogmeat, will follow you for as long as you want, and can be assigned to find food, weapons, or ammo. However, the other companions, the ones on two feet, are restricted to one at a time.
They will carry things for you, making scavenging a lot more effective, as well as providing covering fire.
Can be given armour to wear.
