It features 12 sports, including 10 brand new sports, making it have significantly more variety than the original. Wii Sports Resort is one of the first games to utilise the Wii MotionPlus attachment, and ONE MotionPlus is included with the game. This attachment makes the Wii remote response far more sensitive - the slightest movement will show up on screen. This leads to far more responsive controls than other games and will hopefully be used in many games in the future. This guide is not complete as yet. I will continue to keep updating the guide regularly until it is, so keep checking back. If the information you are after is not included yet, it most likely will be in the next week or so. Alternatively, feel free to email me and I will try to help if I can. ====================================================================== 4. \ /\ / ____ ___ \ / \ / |____ |___| Wii MotionPlus Info V V ____| | \ [MOTPLUS] ====================================================================== The Wii MotionPlus is a relatively new attachment for the Wii remote and ONE is included free with the game. A point to note is that EVERY person that wants to play will require a MotionPlus attached to their remote. If you have two people playing - both will need a MotionPlus, four people require four MotionPlus attachments etc. These are sold separately, and prices vary by country - check with your retailer. It may seem expensive if you need to buy an extra three attachments, but expect them to be used for quite a few games in the future. The MotionPlus replaces the existing jacket on your remote. This is because it includes a slightly more stretchy jacket as part of the attachment. I guess it would be possible to remove this, but as this would possibly break the attachment, I am not about to try it to find out. I have never minded having the remote jacket, but I know plenty of people that never use it. As it is integrated into the MotionPlus, you will need to get used to it. Installation of the MotionPlus is relatively simple. Remove the remote jacket (assuming you are using one), slide the controller in to the MotionPlus, pull the wrist strap through the gap in the back of the jacket part and whilst pressing the buttons on the side, push the attachment into the base of the remote. Slide the lock up and you are done. To replace the batteries in the remote, you will need to remove the attachment. Simply reverse the steps above to do so. It is a bit frustrating, but it only takes seconds. A bit worried about installing it? Don't be. On starting the game for the first time you will be able (well, forced actually) to watch a video showing how to install and remove it. The MotionPlus attachment can remain attached whilst playing any other game, it is probably recommended to do so to reduce any potential damage in removing and reinstalling the attachment. The nunchuk controller as well as other attachments can be plugged into the base of the MotionPlus. There is no need to remove it at all, except for removing batteries. Yes, it makes the remote slightly heavier, but only by a couple of grams - it isn't noticeable. ====================================================================== 5. \ /\ / ____ ___ \ / \ / |____ |___| Start Up / Menus V V ____| | \ [SUMNUS] ====================================================================== Note: The next five steps listed will occur one time only. After inserting the game disc into the console, you may get asked to perform a system update. This will take 90 seconds or so and must be done. Next you will have to watch a video on the Wii MotionPlus. This takes about 3 minutes. Quite boring, but can't skip it. The next step is creating a save for Wii Sports Resort. This will take up 4 blocks which is not too bad. Step 4 is calibration of the MotionPlus. Get used to how to do this - it will be required every time you turn on a remote with this game. Simply put the remote face down on a flat surface (or hold it very still) for about 4 seconds. After all this you will see one of your Mii's (one of your Favourite Mii's if you have one) about to parachute from a plane. Press A and watch the jump to the ground. You can either watch, or practice controlling the Mii in freefall. After around 30 seconds, all Mii's will open their parachute and the title screen will appear. At the title screen, press A and B together. This will bring up the game listing menu. From here on, point at an option and press A to select it. B will take you back to the previous menu. Note that on the game listing menu, there is also a Settings option. Please note: Menus for each game are detailed separately in Section 6 of this guide. In the settings option are three further options. These are: Change Player List Import from Mii Contest Channel Sensor Bar Assist The first option allows you to remove Mii's from your list of players. Not very useful, as you can store up to 100 sets of data anyway. The second option will add Mii's created by people worldwide into the game as background players and/or team mates. I haven't used this option. This means you can be playing basketball with Michael Jackson and Darth Vader for example, if that kind of thing interests you. Not sure what Sensor Bar Assist does to be honest, I have just left it turned on. I believe it is unnecessary, but I haven't had any problems with it on. I think turning it off reduces the sensitivity of the MotionPlus, but not sure. That is about all for this section - on to the good stuff. ====================================================================== 6. \ /\ / ____ ___ \ / \ / |____ |___| Sports V V ____| | \ [THEGOODBIT] ====================================================================== Each of the sports in the game is detailed in its own section as follows: 6.1 Swordplay 6.2 Wakeboarding 6.3 Frisbee 6.4 Archery 6.5 Basketball 6.6 Table Tennis 6.7 Golf 6.8 Bowling 6.9 Power Cruising 6.10 Canoeing 6.11 Cycling 6.12 Air Sports Controls and stamps for each game are included, as well as other info about the sports. ====================== 6.1 Swordplay [SWDPLY] ====================== There are three gameplay modes in the Swordplay category: Duel, Speed Slice and Showdown. One play of Duel unlocks Speed Slice. One play of Speed Slice unlocks Showdown. ++++++++++ DUEL ++++++++++ Fight your opponent out of the ring with your sword. Best 2 out of 3 wins! Number of players: 1 or 2. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: On the Edge: Get this stamp when the outer ring falls away for the deciding round between two opponents who are locked in a draw. It doesn't matter whether you win or lose. You can only get this stamp in single player mode. Straight to the Point: Push your opponent out of the ring with a straight lunge in single player mode. Stalemate: End the first three rounds of a duel in a draw, then draw again in the deciding round for a completely even match in single player mode. You may not have won, but it's quite a rare achievement! All Too Easy: Push your opponent out of the ring with only one strike in single player mode. There Can Only Be One: Defeat the champion in a duel. The key is to leave no gaps in your defence and always swing to hit. There may even be some sort of reward if you win this... Starting up: Choose # of players (1-2), Mii's for each person, Start. Controls: Couldn't be simpler. Swing your remote like a sword. Hold B and swing to defend attacks from your opponent. Comments: The aim of Duel is to knock your opponent in to the water. Doing this twice before your opponent does will win you the match. If your attack is blocked, you get stunned momentarily, leaving you open for a counter attack. +++++++++++++++++ SPEED SLICE +++++++++++++++++ See who can slice the falling objects fastest. The judge decides who wins! Number of players: 1 or 2. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Slice and Dice: Win the contest without missing a single object by slicing the wrong way or failing to slice within the time limit. You can only get this stamp in single player mode. No Object Unsliced: Correctly slice at least one of each of the 18 types of object in single player mode. Different colours count as different types. You need to play several rounds to get them all! Focus Your Mind: Slice an object in the correct direction before it hits the ground in single player mode. This requires a lot of skill... or luck. Double Digit: Slice the alarm clock when the two digits on the display are the same, such as 8.8, 7.7 or 6.6. You can only get this stamp in single player mode. A Cut Above: Beat the Speed Slice champion. Just empty your mind and slice on instinct! Starting up: Choose # of players (1-2), Mii's for each person, Start. Controls: The judge will throw objects in front of you. Slice these in the direction of the arrow. First to slice correctly gets a point. First to 10 points wins. Comments: Quick reactions are necessary to win this. A simple slash in the direction of the arrow is all that is required - it doesn't have to be perfectly in the same direction, but must be close. ++++++++++++++ SHOWDOWN ++++++++++++++ Fight through the oncoming hordes. If you take 3 hits, you lose. Defeat all enemies to win! Number of players: 1. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Not a Scratch: Clear any stage without losing any hearts by taking hits. Stage 10 Clear: Defeat all opponents and clear all 10 first stages. You can't just swing at random if you hope to get to the end; this requires finesse. Perfect 10: Clear Stage 10 without losing any hearts by taking hits. The Final Showdown: Clear the final Showdown stage. The art of parrying is vital here. Untouchable: Clear the final Showdown stage without losing any hearts by taking hits. Starting up: Choose your Mii, the level you want to play, Start. Controls: Same as for Duel. You proceed forward automatically along the path. Comments: You will be attacked by Mii's in groups of about 10 (on average), with around 40 Mii's per level. You can be hit up to three times per level. The level ends when you beat the last Mii - usually the hardest to beat in the level. ====================== 6.2 Wakeboarding [WKBRD] ====================== Use the waves as a platform to do jumps and flips! Just be sure to land flat. Number of players: 1-4. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: 100-Point Jump: Score 100 points on a single jump. Build up speed and do cool tricks in the air and your scores will shoot up! Seven Jumps: Execute 7 or more different kinds of jumps on a single run. Try varying your speed and the length of your approach to perform different jumps. Surf Skimmer: Land correctly on the water 10 times in a row. Even if you pull off an amazing jump, it won't score any points if you don't land properly. Keep the board nice and flat when landing. Clear Run: Get 1000 points or more on the Expert level without hitting any obstacles. Circumnavigator: Wakeboard all the way around Wuhu Island and do 50 successful jumps in Free Cruising Mode. You have to complete a course afterwards to get the stamp. Starting up: Choose # of players (1-4), Mii's for each person, Difficulty, Start. Controls: Hold the remote horizontally, with the d-pad on the left. Tilt left or right to move in that direction, flick when on wake to jump. Comments: Practicing is key to this as far as I can tell - knowing which way the boat is about to turn, as it messes up a lot of your jump attempts when you don't know. Landing is also crucial - you need to be flat with the water or you will get no points for the jump. ====================== 6.3 Frisbee [FRSB] ====================== There are two gameplay modes in the Frisbee category: Frisbee Dog and Frisbee Golf. One play of Frisbee Dog unlocks Frisbee Golf. +++++++++++++++++ FRISBEE DOG +++++++++++++++++ Throw the Frisbee at the arrow for the dog to catch. Angle your throw carefully. Number of players: 1-4. Played 1 at a time. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Mid-Air Catch: Throw the Frisbee right into the centre of the target area to make the dog jump up and catch it in mid-air. This is more of an achievement for the dog, really... Practice Makes Perfect: In Practice Mode, pop all nine balloons in ten throws or less. A fresh set of nine balloons appears after every ten throws. You have to complete a game of Frisbee Dog afterwards to get the stamp. 10 x 10: Score 10 points with each of your 10 throws. That means hitting the turquoise 10-point zone every time - at least as hard as aiming for the centre! You can't get this stamp in team play. Dead Centre: Hit the centre of the target area and score 100 points with each of your ten throws. Extra points scored by popping balloons don't count. You can't get this stamp in team play. Perfect Score: Score 100 points with every throw and pop every balloon. That'll get you 1500 points. No-one can beat that! You can't get this stamp in team play. Starting up: Choose # of players, Mii's for each person, whether you will play individually or as a team, Start. For your first game, you will also be asked if you want to use manual or automatic controls. See below for details. Controls: Stand side on to the screen. Holding the remote horizontally, move it left, then right with a flick towards the screen (for right handers - your right side should be the one facing the screen). Don't let go of the remote! The above is for Automatic controls. The key to this mode is stopping your swing in the right position to release it correctly. Manual requires you to hold down B as you throw, releasing B to release the frisbee. I prefer Auto to be honest, although manual is probably better for higher scores. Comments: You will have 10 throws at a target. Hitting the turquoise zone is 10 points, the orange is worth 50, and the purple is worth 100 points. Missing gets 0. The angle you throw the frisbee, and when you release are the keys here. Tilting the remote in different directions will make it fly in that direction. As an example, an angle like \ will mean the frisbee will curve to the right. Throwing upwards slightly is also recommended, moving slightly upwards as you flick the remote. Your first five shots have a target only - aim straight at it. The last 5 also have balloons - worth 50 points each, and more after this if you both hit the balloon and land in the 100 point zone. You will need to master the angle for these throws - aim at the balloon, with an angle to get you to the target. ++++++++++++++++++ FRISBEE GOLF ++++++++++++++++++ Play golf with a Frisbee! The aim is to throw the Frisbee into the target area on the green. Number of players: 1-4. Played 1 at a time. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: No. Players, Mii's, (1p/Tm), # holes. Course. Start. STAMPS: Under Par: Finish any course under par (in less than the set number of shots for the course). 0 is par, and a score of -1 or less is under par. You can't get this stamp in team play. Skip to Safety: Get this stamp when a Frisbee bound for a water hazard skips across the surface of the water and lands safely on the other side. It's just like stone skimming! Rolling Goal: Throw the Frisbee from outside the green to make it hit the ground and roll into the target area. It sounds tough, and it's even tougher than you think. Hole-In-One: Get the Frisbee into the target area with just one throw. The target is a whole area rather than a small hole, so it's considerably easier than in classic golf... but still hard. A Clean 18: Play an 18-hole round of Frisbee Golf without ever throwing the disc out of bounds or into a water hazard. You can't get this stamp in team play. Starting up: Choose # of players, Mii's for each person, whether you will play individually or as a team, # of holes, course, Start. For your first game, you will also be asked if you want to use manual or automatic controls. See below for details. Controls: Stand side on to the screen. Holding the remote horizontally, move it left, then right with a flick towards the screen (for right handers - your right side should be the one facing the screen). Don't let go of the remote! The above is for Automatic controls. The key to this mode is stopping your swing in the right position to release it correctly. Manual requires you to hold down B as you throw, releasing B to release the frisbee. I prefer Auto to be honest, although manual is probably better for higher scores. Comments: The aim, like in regular golf is to complete each hole in the minimum number of shots possible. Instead of a hole to aim for, in this mode you have an area on the green you need to pass through, meaning it is much easier to get in from off the green. This is a good thing, as you can't throw a frisbee as far as you can hit a golf ball. Aiming is crucial here - try to keep it on the fairway, as the frisbee will skid further on this than in the rough or bunker. ====================== 6.4 Archery [ARCRY] ====================== Use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to aim your bow and shoot your arrows right on target. Number of players: 1-4. Played 1 at a time. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: Yes. STAMPS: Bulls in a Row: Hit the bull's-eye and get the full 10 points with all 3 arrows in one stage. This can be in any difficulty level, but not in team play. The easiest way to do it is in Stage 1 of the Beginner level. Stay on Target: Hit the target with all 3 arrows in each of the 4 stages. This can be in any difficulty level. You can't get this stamp in team play. Rack 'Em Up: You get this stamp when you've shot 100 arrows into the target. It doesn't matter what the shots scored as long as they hit the target. The Secret Target: There is a secret target in every stage of every difficulty level. Hit all the secret targets in every level to get this stamp. What do you mean, where are they? It's a secret! Sharpshooter: Score 10 points with every arrow in each of the 4 stages. This can be in any difficulty level, but not in team play. Obviously, it's easiest on the Beginner level... Starting up: Choose # of players, Mii's for each person, whether you will play individually or as a team, difficulty, Start. Controls: Hold the remote in your left hand and the nunchuk in your right (for right handers) - this is the opposite to usual. Hold A and Z, pull back towards you with the nunchuk to draw the bow and aim with the remote. Release Z to fire an arrow. Comments: Wind (shown on screen) doesn't play a major effect on your shots, but it WILL have some effect, especially on longer shots. Gravity has a much larger impact with the arrow losing height over distance - you will need to aim above the target for nearly every shot - how much depends on how far away you are. There is a secret target, as mentioned in the stamps in each stage of each difficulty level. These are nearly all food items (except the one in stage 4 of the hardest difficulty). Generally these are fruit. As an example of what to look for - have a look at the base of the waterfall to the right on Stage 1 of Beginner and you will see an orange - hitting it is the hard bit! ====================== 6.5 Basketball [BBALL] ====================== There are two gameplay modes in the Basketball category: 3-Point Contest and 3-on-3 Game. One play of 3-Point Contest unlocks 3-on-3 Game. +++++++++++++++++++++ 3-POINT CONTEST +++++++++++++++++++++ Score as many points as you can within the time limit. The multi-coloured balls score double points! Number of players: 1-4. Played 1 at a time. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Five in a Row: Get five consecutive shots in the basket. If you can set a good rhythm with the first five balls, anything's possible... Bonus Ball Buff: Get all five multicolour bonus balls in the basket. Speed Shooter: Score 20 points or more with at least 10 seconds left on the clock. No time to think! You Got Game: Get all 25 balls in the basket! Stay focused till the very last one! Speed Demon: Get all 25 balls in the basket with at least 15 seconds left on the clock. That's no mean feat... Starting up: Choose # of Players, Mii's for each player, Start. Controls: Press B to pick up a ball. Raise the remote over head and flick forwards to shoot near the peak of your jump. Comments: Ignore your first game where you are given instructions - it's unlikely you did well in that as the pausing messes with your rhythm - this game is all about rhythm, and a bit of skill. I thought it was really bad, as I hardly got a shot in, then played again and did quite well (mid teens). Really, getting in a good rhythm is about all I can say to getting a good score. I seem to get strings of baskets in a row, along with strings of misses. +++++++++++++++++ 3-ON-3 GAME +++++++++++++++++ Dribble! Pass! Shoot! Go for a Slam Dunk! Number of players: 1-2. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: 3-Point Goal: Score a goal from behind the 3-point line (the dark brown part of the court). You can only get this stamp in single player mode. Slam Dunk Master: Score five slam dunks in one game in single player mode. To dunk, get right up underneath the basket, jump up and slam the ball in. 3-Point Master: Score five 3-point goals in one game. A 3-point goal is a successful shot from beyond the 3-point line (the dark brown part of the court). You can only get this stamp in single player mode. Buzzer Beater: Win a last second victory with a "buzzer beater", a goal scored just before the buzzer signals the end of the game. You can only get this stamp in single player mode. Defeat the Champions: Defeat the champions in a game! The current Wuhu champions are faster, jump higher and shoot better than any other team. Increase your lead by scoring 3-point goals. Starting up: Choose # of Players, Mii's for each player, Start. Controls: A or a direction on the D-pad to pass, B to shoot (same method as for the 3-point contest). Dribbling works by flicking the remote up and down. Defence - flick the remote sidewards to steal, flick up to jump. Comments: I'm not sure why this is a popular game - I find it very frustrating. You get five seconds to make a shot after pressing B, if someone blocking you jumps, wait a second or two before shooting so you don't get blocked. Dribbling to the basket works well early, but it seems to get stolen a lot later, so you nearly need to rely on 3-pointers against opponents further up the skill ranks. ====================== 6.6 Table Tennis [TTNS] ====================== There are two gameplay modes in the Table Tennis category: Match and Return Challenge. One play of Match unlocks Return Challenge. +++++++++++ MATCH +++++++++++ Score 6 points first to win. Try angling the racket to put spin on the ball. Number of players: 1-2. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Not the Face!: For some reason, you get a stamp for hitting your opponent's face with the ball in single player mode. Of course, you would never hit them in the face on purpose... Back From the Brink: Successfully return a ball that hits the edge of the table and bounces at an unpredictable angle, making it harder to hit. You can only get this stamp in single player mode. 30-Stroke Rally: Keep up a rally (hitting the ball back and forth without stopping) for 30 strokes or more in single player mode. It may sound boring, but rallies are one of the most exciting parts of table tennis. A Worthy Opponent: Draw with your opponent in single player mode. According to the house rules, a match is declared a draw if neither player can get two points ahead of the other and the score reaches 20-20. Defeat the Champion: Beat the table tennis champion in a match. The current champion quickly surpassed her teacher Yoshi, and has since gone undefeated. Starting up: Choose # of Players, Mii's for each player, Start. Controls: A to serve (Flick up for a higher toss), swing remote to swing and hit the ball. Can put swing on the ball by tilting the remote and can change direction by hitting slightly earlier or later after it bounces. Comments: This is a reasonably accurate to the game of table tennis, about as realistic as you can get without playing it anyway. Movement is automatic - the controls are very similar to the original tennis game on Wii Sports in fact. Prepare for long rallies if playing single player at higher skill, the opposition becomes pretty tough to beat, you will need to put spin onto your shots, hit wide and get lucky. ++++++++++++++++++++++ RETURN CHALLENGE ++++++++++++++++++++++ Focus only on returning the ball. Clear your mind and let your arm do the work! Number of players: 1-2. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Score 50 points: Get a score of 50 points or more. Once you can do this, you're well on your way to mastering the art of returns. Score 100 points: Get a score of 100 points or more. It's twice as many points as 50, but it's not twice as hard. Just set a good rhythm from the start. Score 200 points: Get a score of 200 points or more. The mark of a real pro! Can Do: Knock the can off the table with a ball 30 times in one game. Perseverance is the key. Honourable Master: Get a score of 100 points or more without the ball ever hitting the server's face, even by bouncing off a can. You have to play honourably to reach the top! Starting up: Choose # of Players, Mii's for each player, Start. Controls: Same as for match above, except you are just returning serve only. Comments: This is frustrating, you need to hit each ball back onto the table. Seems easy, but as it speeds up, it gets much harder. Trying for the cans makes it much easier to miss completely but it can be worth it - it gets you 3 points for each one you hit. These are always placed towards the edge of the table. I doubt I will ever get the last stamp - hitting the server in the face feels good, as you will get so annoyed at this game after missing shots you know you shouldn't, mainly due to a lack of time to prepare properly. Get some revenge from him making you look bad! ====================== 6.7 Golf [NOTAGN] ====================== Get the ball in the cup in as few shots as you can. It's all in how you swing the club! Number of players: 1-4. Played 1 at a time. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Under Par: Finish any course under par (in less than the set number of shots for the course). 0 is par, and a score of -1 or less is under par. You can't get this stamp in team play. Chip It In: Get a "chip in" when a chip shot, a short shot used to get the ball onto the green, falls or rolls straight into the hole. Most people claim they were aiming for the hole all along... King of Clubs: Finish a course at 9 under par (9 fewer than the set number of shots for the course). On a 9-hole course, that means getting a birdie on every hole! You can't get this stamp in team play. Ace of Clubs: Finish a course at 18 under par (in 18 fewer shots than the set number of shots for the course.) It's possible even on a nine-hole course, in theory... You can't get this stamp in team play. Hole-In-One: Hit the ball straight from the tee into the cup in one shot. In real golf, getting a hole-in-one is extremely rare, even for professionals. Starting up: Pick the # of players, Mii's for each player, if you want to team up, the number of holes, course, Start. Controls: Turn side on to the screen (right handers should have the left side facing the screen and vice versa). Hold the remote in front of you, pointing down at the floor, like a golf club (this sort of angle: \). Press B. To swing, do an arc with the remote back from the screen to your shoulders, then swing back through your starting position and through - just like swinging a golf club. This will be a practice swing. To actually hit the ball, you need to hold A down as you swing. If your swing doesn't seem right (the line on screen showing the ball flight curves from straight), try repositioning the remote at the start of your swing and pressing B again. This is meant to represent the club head being behind the ball. The game will automatically pick the best club to use. To change, press up or down on the D-pad. Pressing left or right changes the line of the shot. To know how hard to swing, look at the map on screen. It will show four dots on a line. Each dot is 1/4 of a full power gauge. If it shows 3 dots to the flag, hit a 3/4 power shot (or a bit less - the gauge shows where the ball will LAND, not stop). Suggestion: Watch the tutorial. It gives a better description than I just did. Comments: Returning from Wii Sports, one of my favourite games on the original. Unfortunately, the new controls make this pretty bad. Maybe it is just me, but getting the ball to go consistently straight is a lot harder than it was last time. I swing exactly the same as I did in a practice swing, and it'll go in the opposite direction a lot of the time. Very frustrating. Hopefully I will get the hang of it over time, because it is still kind of fun. My suggestion is to practice before EVERY shot, try to get a consistent swing three times in a row before hitting the ball. Never try to overhit the ball either - this will add extra swing to the ball - usually in the direction you don't want it to go. ====================== 6.8 Bowling [BWLNG] ====================== There are three gameplay modes in the Bowling category: 10-Pin Game, 100-Pin Game and Spin Control. One play of 10-Pin Game unlocks 100-Pin Game. One play of 100-Pin Game unlocks Spin Control. +++++++++++++++++ 10-PIN GAME +++++++++++++++++ Knock down as many pins as you can. It's all in the wrist! Number of players: 1-4. Played 1 at a time. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Gobble Gobble: Bowl three strikes in a row to get a turkey. The term apparently comes from an old custom of giving a turkey to any player who could bowl three strikes in a row. You can't get this stamp in team play. Split-Frame Spare: Complete a spare after getting a split on your first throw. A split is when you knock over the 1 pin but leave two or more other pins standing with an opening, or split, between them. Pro Bowler: Get a score of 200 points or more. That means, for example, getting all strikes and spares, with at least one double. Very little margin for error! You can't get this stamp in team play. No Pin Standing: Score a strike or a spare on every frame (except the third throw of the 10th frame, which doesn't count). You can't get this stamp in team play. King-Pin: Score a strike on every round. That's 12 consecutive strikes for a thumping 300 points! You can't get this stamp in team play. Starting up: Pick # of players, Mii's for everybody. For your first game, you need to choose either Auto or Manual controls. Manual is recommended. Choose a hand too (left or right). Start. Controls: First you need to set your position. Press left and right to move the ball path (on the D-Pad). If you want to angle the ball path, press A then left and right. When you are ready, press and hold B. Bring the remote to your chest, pointing up. Swing the remote down (still holding B) and behind you. Swing forwards and as the remote gets to about your leg, let go of B, while still swinging the remote through in front of you. Hopefully you will knock down some pins. You get two chances on each round (there are 10) to knock down all 10 pins. Automatic controls are similar, you just don't need to hold down B I believe. You can also add spin to your ball by twisting the remote as you throw the ball. Do not throw the remote - they are too expensive for that. Comments: This is nearly identical to bowling in Wii Sports. For those that played that, you don't need any tips. Really, finding a way to bowl to get consistent strikes is a matter of practice - for me, I don't need to move the position at all, as my natural throw curves a bit to the left. ++++++++++++++++++ 100-PIN GAME ++++++++++++++++++ 100 pins?! Knock down as many as you can for a maximum of 3000 points! Number of players: 1-4. Played 1 at a time. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: 100-Pin Strike: Knock all 100 pins down with one bowl. That domino effect is so satisfying to watch! Split-Frame Spare: Complete a spare after getting a split on your first throw. A split is when you knock over the 1 pin but leave two or more other pins standing with an opening, or split, between them. Gutter Guard Genius: Hit the gutter guard once and then get a strike. What do you mean, it's just luck? It can't hurt to give it a try! Secret Strike: Apparently, there's a somewhat unusual way to get a strike. Something to do with the gutter guards? No Pin Standing: Score a strike or a spare on every frame (except the third throw of the 10th frame, which doesn't count). You can't get this stamp in team play. Starting up: See 10-Pin Game mode. Controls: See 10-Pin Game mode. The only difference is there are 100 pins per round, not 10. Comments: This is similar to Power throws in Wii Sports. It is hard to get all pins down in one throw, but you get two shots to knock them down - not too hard. Generally, you will knock down over 90 on your first throw if you hit anywhere near the front pin. ++++++++++++++++++ SPIN CONTROL ++++++++++++++++++ Throw the ball and avoid the barriers in the lane. Put some spin on that ball! Number of players: 1-4. Played 1 at a time. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: The Bare Minimum: Knock down at least one pin in every frame. You can't get this stamp in team play. Split-Frame Spare: Complete a spare after getting a split on your first throw. A split is when you knock over the 1 pin but leave two or more other pins standing with an opening, or split, between them. The Obvious Target: Knock down the 1 pin in every frame. You can't get this stamp in team play. Spin Doctor: Score 170 points or more without hitting a single barrier. Even just brushing past a barrier will disqualify you for this stamp. You can't get this stamp in team play. No Pin Standing: Score a strike or a spare on every frame (except the third throw of the 10th frame, which doesn't count). You can't get this stamp in team play. Starting up: See 10-Pin Game mode. Controls: See 10-Pin Game mode. The difference is there will be barriers on the lane that you need to avoid. Comments: Spin helps for a lot of throws, but is not necessary for most of the rounds. Getting a perfect game here is very tough - good luck to anyone that can manage to do it. ====================== 6.9 Power Cruising [PWRCRS] ====================== There are two gameplay modes in the Power Cruising category: Slalom Course and VS. +++++++++++++++++++ SLALOM COURSE +++++++++++++++++++ Manoeuvre though the floating rings as fast as you can. Bonus rings are worth double! Number of players: 1-4. Played 1 at a time. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: Yes. STAMPS: Bonus Ring King: Go through every single bonus ring on one course. It doesn't matter which course you do it on. Score 5000 Points: Get a cumulative score of 5000 points or more overall. Master Cruiser: Get a score of 170 points or more on all courses. Jump Master: Go through all the bonus rings in the final course. All the Time in the World: In single player Free Cruising mode, find all the time balloons in one run. You have to complete the Slalom Course afterwards to get the stamp. Starting up: Choose the # of players, Mii's for everyone, a course, Start. Controls: Hold the remote and nunchuk horizontally like handlebars. Hold A or B to accelerate. Tilt the remote/nunchuk up and down to turn left and right. Twist the remote for a speed boost. Comments: Play it to say you have, then realise it is awful. Never play again. Seriously, try to line up for the next ring in line, and go straight at it, where possible. Turning can put you way off course very easily due to the waves. Make sure you get to bonus rings as quickly as possible, as they are worth twice whatever time is shown above the gate in points. ++++++++ VS ++++++++ Navigate through the rings in order and try to get to the finish line first! Number of players: 2. Nunchuk required: Yes. Starting up: See Slalom Course mode. Controls: See Slalom Course mode. Comments: First across the line is all that counts, may pay to wait slightly behind your opponent and just aim straight at the line near the end. Not guaranteed to work though, just a suggestion. Worked for me once. ====================== 6.10 Canoeing [CNING] ====================== There are two gameplay modes in the Canoeing category: Speed Challenge and VS. +++++++++++++++++++++ SPEED CHALLENGE +++++++++++++++++++++ Paddle to the finish line! Make rhythmic strokes and keep up a nice steady pace. Number of players: 1-4. Played co-operatively. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Beginner Licence: In single player mode, get to 200m in the beginner level of the Speed Challenge. Intermediate Licence: In single player mode, get to 300m in the intermediate level of the Speed Challenge. Expert Licence: In single player mode, get to 400m in the expert level of the Speed Challenge. Ducky Come Home: In Free Practice Mode, find all the stray ducklings on the lake and lead them back to their mother. You have to complete the Speed Challenge afterwards to get the stamp. Cut the Red Tape: Cut the red tape in all levels. Haven't seen any red tape yet? Remember that even after getting your licence for each level, you can still go further... Starting up: Choose a number of players, Mii's for everyone, difficulty, Start. Controls: Holding the remote vertically, swing from front to back on one side of your body. If you stick to one side - you will go in circles. Just like in a canoe, you need to "paddle" on both sides (alternately) to go straight. Multiple players will work co-operatively - you are in the same canoe. Comments: Definitely practice before playing the first time, it takes a bit to get used to. Having extra people for this game helps a LOT, and is DEFINITELY required to get anywhere near the red tape stamp. As you can see from the description, it doesn't mention single player, as it is just not possible on your own. Avoid the weeds etc in the higher difficulty levels - these slow you down a lot. ++++++++ VS ++++++++ The first player to pass a checkpoint scores 1 point. The winner is the first to get 5 points! Number of players: 2-4. Nunchuk required: No. Starting up: As per Speed Challenge, except you need to choose if you want to play in teams or not if more than two are playing (and there is no difficulty choice). Controls: As per Speed Challenge. Comments: Very easy to get a run on in this one - hard to catch up if you fall behind. Get to the front early and stay there. ====================== 6.11 Cycling [CCLNG] ====================== There are two gameplay modes in the Cycling category: Road Race and VS. +++++++++++++++ ROAD RACE +++++++++++++++ Use your hands to pedal with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. The key to speed is good timing. Number of players: 1-2. Played together for 2 players. Can be played on one remote. Nunchuk required: Yes. STAMPS: Breathless: Finish a race when you're out of breath. This doesn't really deserve much in the way of congratulations, but oh well... First of Many: You get this stamp when you finish a race in 1st place for the first time. It doesn't matter which race you do it on. 1-Stage Master: Finish all 1-stage races in first place. 3-Stage Master: Finish both 3-stage races in first place. 6-Stage Master: Finish the 6-stage race in first place. You only have to finish first in the last stage, so you can work your way to the front gradually. Starting up: # of players, Mii's for everyone, # of stages, race, Start. Controls: Flick the remote and nunchuk up and down alternately to move forwards - it is meant to be like pedalling. Twist the controls like handlebars to turn corners although it sort of does it for you, it is better if you do it yourself, as in some stages, it is possible to go off a cliff or into a river if you don't turn yourself. Press B or Z to brake for sharp turns (or both). Comments: Note - if two people are playing, you will be on the same bike - a tandem. Kind of fun, but much harder to turn. Watch your breath gauge - shown by hearts. If you run out of breath, you will stop pedalling for about 10 seconds. To avoid this, ride directly behind other Mii's to get a wind break. You can also build up momentum by pedalling, then glide for a bit - you will continue forwards even when not pedalling. Occasionally, one of the computer Mii's will be riding a pizza bike. Make sure you beat them - it is embarrassing if you don't, although it is just another competitor. Getting from 30th to 1st in one stage is not easy, but it is possible, you really need to time your energy usage though. Listen to your "coach" down the bottom of screen for some handy tips of what to do in the race. ++++++++ VS ++++++++ Reach the goal first to win. The trick is to save your energy and use it at the right moments. Number of players: 2. Nunchuk required: Yes. Starting up: See Road Race mode. Controls: See Road Race mode. Comments: There will be 3 computer controlled Mii's in this race as well as the two human players. The race ends when the first human crosses the line - whether that is first or fourth - it doesn't matter. Try knocking your human opposition off cliffs etc - I'm sure they would do the same to you, and probably will. Not good when you fall off yourself trying it though. ====================== 6.12 Air Sports [AIRSPTS] ====================== There are three gameplay modes in the Air Sports category: Skydiving, Island Flyover and Dogfight. +++++++++++++++ SKYDIVING +++++++++++++++ Glide towards other Mii characters and catch as many as you can. Then smile for the camera! Number of players: 1. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: High Five: Catch and link up with 4 other Mii characters and make sure everyone's face is visible when the camera snaps. Twist the Wii Remote around to get everyone to face the camera. Birdwatcher: Take a photo with a bird in it. Hawks often fly just above the formation point. If you're lucky, a hawk might fly by just as the camera snaps! 30-Person Formation: Catch at least 29 Mii characters during your dive, then join them for the final formation and have a picture taken. Even if you catch more than 29 Mii characters, 30 people is the biggest formation you can get. Sympathy Snap: Apparently, if you don't manage to catch anybody on your dive, the photographer will come out from behind the camera for a special shot! Score 200 points: Get a score of 200 points or more. You'll need to make sure everyone's face is visible and pile on the bonus points. Starting up: Choose a Mii, Start. Controls: Twist the remote to control your Mii. Nearly horizontal is best, slightly tilted down to move forward. Once you grab onto other people, and the photo is about to be taken, rotate the Mii's so they are facing the screen. Comments: Try to grab all 4 Mii's together in groups, if you can get all 4, a second photo is taken. Face the camera where possible, as faces count as 2 points, just the Mii in the photo (not looking at the camera) is worth 1. Make sure you fly through all 3 rings at the end to get the maximum number of Mii's in the final photo. ++++++++++++++++++++ ISLAND FLYOVER ++++++++++++++++++++ Fly at will around the island! How many i points can you find? Number of players: 1. Nunchuk required: No. STAMPS: Visit Wedge Island: Read any i point on Wedge Island. Wedge Island is the large island a little way away from the main island, where the golf courses are located. Popfest 150: Pop 150 balloons in the course of one flight. This includes balloons on planes or vehicles and small balloons released from larger ones. Follow That Plane: Follow Miguel's guide plane around the island for at least three minutes. Watch the smoke trail left by Miguel's plane. It changes colour when you're following him. If you can't find him, try firing a flare. Wuhupedia: Collect all the i points in the daytime, evening and night. There are 80 locations, with new information for each time of day. That's 240 i points in total! Balloonist Extraordinaire: Pop every white balloon at all times of day. Once popped, white balloons will be a different colour the next time you play. Balloons on planes or vehicles and small balloons released from larger ones don't count for this stamp. Starting up: Choose a Mii, Start. Controls: Hold the remote horizontally. Twist left/right to tilt or turn in that direction. Thrust at the screen to accelerate slightly. Press A to shoot. Press B to stall the engine (pretty useless). Press 1 to shoot a flare, which the guide plane will also do, so you can find him. Use the D-Pad to look around. Comments: Unlockables are as follows, for collecting this many individual i symbols: 10: Balloons 20: Fly in evening 30: Double Popper (two shots at a time) 40: Fly at night 50: More lights at night 60: Two seater plane 70: New Blimp (Whale Shark) design (your Mii is painted on it). 80: Get a House (on large deserted island) Have fun with balloon hunting - odds are you will miss one or two, and it will REALLY frustrate you trying to locate the one you are missing. That's the beauty of it. You will pick up the controls very quickly, and be doing tricky manoeuvres in no time. Crashing is not a bad thing anyway - the clock stops and you will start again pretty much where you were. Annoying when you are in a tunnel just before a new i point, but you will generally get it next time. Follow the guide plane (Miguel) - he alternates between two routes which are different at all three times of day. Doing so will show the location of most i points, if you can stay behind of course. ++++++++++++++ DOGFIGHT ++++++++++++++ Try to pop each other's balloons! Whoever has the most left at the end wins. Number of players: 2. Nunchuk required: No. Starting up: Pick Mii's for each player, Start. Controls: See Island Flyover mode. Comments: Balloons are key - you can have up to 30. Crash and you lose half, but you can't drop below 1 by crashing. Being shot drops your balloons by 1 for each hit. There will be bonus balloons available every 30 or so seconds - 10 at a time. Q: Is a Wii MotionPlus required to play this game? A: Yes. Every person will need a Wii MotionPlus attached to their controller. The game will not recognise the controller if it doesn't have one. Q: How many sports are there in this game? What are they? A: 12. See Section 6 for the list. Q: How do I get (INSERT STAMP HERE)? A: This is detailed in the section for each game. Some are very difficult! Q: Are Pro levels included this time? A: Yes. Once your ranking is over 1000 for a sport, you are considered a Pro. Get to 2000 and you become a Superstar! The maximum ranking is 2500. Q: What are the best / worst sports? A: This is my opinion only. I can't stand wakeboarding and especially power cruising. Awful controls. Swordplay, archery and surprisingly Frisbee are my most favourite sports. Most people seem to like basketball too - I don't. Q: I got something with a different name to what you are using (stamp or location in Island Flyover for example). Why? A: This is one of the differences between versions. For info, I am using the PAL version of the game for writing this guide - available in Europe and Australia (plus a few other places). I know the US (NTSC) version has different names for things, and possibly the Japanese version too. Q: Is there any online play or scoreboards in this game? A: No. The only online feature is importing Mii's from the Mii Contest Channel.
