If the above does not look like it says "Super Mario Galaxy 2", you are
probably viewing this in a variable-width font. For the best viewing
experience, please switch to a fixed-width font such as Courier New.

Hi, and welcome to my Super Mario Galaxy 2 FAQ! The most recent version of
this guide can always be found at:
www.tomfarello.com/SMG2.txt

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE NEW VERSION OF THE SEARCH FUNCTION! dtemp1, a reader of
my guide for the first iteration of Super Mario Galaxy, brought up a good
point. Someone who just comes to my guide to get a quick hint would not
necessarily know to switch the angular brackets in the table of contents to
square brackets to perform the search. Therefore, I will switch everything to
square brackets in this guide. If this is distasteful to you, please let me
know.

THIS GUIDE IS NEVER TO BE POSTED ON MYWII.COM.AU. If you see this guide on
mywii.com.au, please let me know IMMEDIATELY. I do not take kindly to my
guides being posted on the same webpage as advertisements; I don't use my
guides to make money, so neither should anyone else. When I asked for either
my guide for the first game or the advertisements to be removed, I received an
email saying that my guide would be removed from their site. I checked back a
year and a half later, and guess what I found? I didn't want to make a big
deal out of it then, but they have earned themselves a permanent slot on the
top of my **** list.

On a related note, if your site is listed in the "Copyright Information"
section at the bottom of this guide, feel free to grab this guide and host it
on your site, provided that it be posted, in its entirety, on a single URL,
with no advertisements accompanying the guide on the URL. Also, please send me
a quick email telling me that you are hosting the guide, and the URL that it is
posted on; this would be much appreciated. You are awesome because, unlike
the webmasters of mywii.com.au, you can listen to directions. This offer is
permanent (unless I say otherwise), even if this paragraph is removed from this
section.

Also, I graduate in a couple of days!

Those abbreviations are search tools. If you want to jump to a specific point
in the FAQ, just search, with your browser's search function, for series of
five characters in the square brackets. For example, if you wanted to search
for a section with abbreviation "[ABBRV]", you would simply search for
"[ABBRV]" with your browser's search function. There are similar search
abbreviations for each galaxy in a world, as well as each star in a galaxy.

My email address is [email protected]. I have very few requests for
emails sent to me, be reasonable and follow them for me. First off, please
email me. This is one of my first FAQs ever, and I would like to know if I
have been helpful. Emails that tell me that I have done poorly are not
appreciated. Emails that tell me WHY I have done poorly are much more helpful,
and I widely accept these. In other words, criticism must be constructive.
Emails that tell me that I have done well are accepted. Those kinds of emails
keep this FAQ growing longer; they fuel my desire to help you. However, emails
that tell me WHY I have done well are more useful to me, and I ask, again, that
if you are going to criticize, even positively, please do so in a constructive
manner. Also, I am writing this guide as I play through the game. If I don't
specifically ask for a piece of information, it's probably not a good idea to
tell me about it. I don't want my inbox to be flooded with information I was
about to obtain by myself. As a general rule, if it seems like I missed
something important in my guide, send me something about it. If it seems like
I haven't gotten to it yet, hold off. Other than that, comments, questions,
constructive criticism.

Most importantly, I filter email that comes from my readers. If you were a
reader of my first guide, you will be used to this, but I ask that you please
put the word "Mario" in the title of every email you send me about this FAQ.
If you do not, there is a fair chance I will not respond to your email.

Here is the list of things I will currently be accepting in emails:
Nothing yet, unless it looks like I've entirely missed something, such as the
location of a life mushroom. I'm not too worried about 1-ups, though.

Again, be sure to include the word "Mario" in the titles of emails you send me.

Hi! My name is Tom Farello, and I will be your guide through Super Mario
Galaxy 2! I am a senior computer science major at Cornell University (yes, I
changed my major), at the time of writing this guide. I will be writing the
bulk of this guide during a period of our academic year called "senior week",
which is basically a week where seniors get to chill out and say their final
goodbyes to each other. Therefore, I will hopefully have plenty of free time
to play and write.

As far as other guides I have written, I am probably most notable for the guide
I wrote for... wait for it... Super Mario Galaxy in 2007! I'll take this
opportunity to thank all of the readers of said guide that took a moment to
write an email just to say "Thanks for taking the time to do this," or "If you
write a guide for SMG2, I'll definitely look for yours first." The reason I'm
writing this guide is not only the timing, but also because of my readers. You
guys are awesome. I will make every effort to make this guide just as
pleasurable a reading experience as my first, and hopefully even more so!

I don't exactly have the time that some authors do, so I do not timestamp
future versions of my guides, but I try to update as often as I can. Nothing
motivates me more than emails from my readers, so keep sending them! Other
than that, I hope this guide is very helpful to you in conquering Super Mario
Galaxy 2!

Version 0.80: 05/28/10
Got and wrote up the locations of the first 36 green stars. I'm looking
decent to finish by the end of the week!

Version 0.70: 05/27/10
Big 120. Will start on green stars soon; I did the first one just for
kicks, and it seems like they will go a lot faster than the gold ones.

Version 0.50: 05/26/10
Chalked up another 38 stars and 14 comet medals. Oh, and resisted the urge
to go into 4 AM mode... even though it's 4 AM.

Version 0.30: 05/25/10
Unfortunately, I didn't get to play a lot today, but I did manage to write
up most of the stuff that was missing. 12 more stars, 4 more comet medals,
and a whole lot of text.

Version 0.21: 05/25/10
Wanted to get this version up quickly. 4 AM does weird things to people.

Version 0.20: 05/24/10
Who needs sleep, amirite? Picked up another 35 stars and another 12 comet
medals. I'm certainly making progress, but I might have to pick up the pace
if I want to beat the game before I graduate. Also, it's 4:00 AM.

Version 0.05: 05/23/10
15 stars, 9 comet medals, not bad for a few hours with the game, eh?

Version 0.02: 05/21/10
Wow, I'm off my game. It's not 2007! Anyway, more typing, more formatting,
more ASCII art. And a lot of hate for mywii.com.au. I've also learned (for
about the 18,346th time) to save often.

Version 0.01: 05/19/10
Hey, it's Tom time again! What I did today: I copied my original guide into
a new text file and did some formatting stuff. Started on the items, and
the stuff that I already know from the website and whatnot. It doesn't look
like Best Buy is going to let me have this one early, so I'm hoping to start
   the actual walkthrough on Monday.

Walk/Run: Tilt the control stick in the direction you want to move. The
further you tilt, the faster you move.

Spin: To spin, flick your Wii remote from side to side once. From now on, I
will refer to this action as "spinning" for simplicity, as it is used for
many of the actions done in the game.
Cursor: Pointing the Wii remote at the screen will cause a cursor to appear.
Moving the cursor over star bits will cause you to collect them and add them
   to your total.
Shoot: Pressing B will cause you to shoot a star bit wherever the cursor is.
This can be used to stun enemies among other things. Note that this will
subtract one star bit from your total, and cannot be done if your current
   total is zero.

Jump: Press A to jump.
Triple Jump: Wah! Hoohoo! Yahoo! Ha-ha! While Mario doesn't actually say this,
retains the ability to triple jump in this game. Just press A right before
Mario lands to have him jump again, up to three times.
Backflip: While stationary, press Z then A to do a backflip for extra height.
Long Jump: While running, press Z then A to do a long jump.
Wall Jump: Holding the control stick toward a wall then pressing A will cause
Mario to jump upward, away from the wall. Use this to reach high places.

First-Person: Press up on the D+Pad to get a first-person view. While in this
mode, the control stick will pan the camera. Press down on the D+Pad to get
   out of this mode.
Pan Left: Press left on the D+Pad to pan the camera left.
Pan Right: Press right on the D+Pad to pan the camera right.
Center Camera: Press C to center the camera behind Mario.

Yoshi: Jump on or spin near a Yoshi egg to hatch a Yoshi! Jump on him or spin
   near him to get on.
Cursor: The cursor looks a little different now, but it serves (for the most
   part) the same purpose.
Tongue: Holding the cursor over an object or enemy that Yoshi can manipulate
will cause the cursor to spin, and a circle will appear around the
object. Press B when this circle is visible, and Yoshi will launch his
tongue at it. If it is an enemy, Yoshi will generally eat it; if it is a
flower, Yoshi will swing himself around it; and if it is another object,
Yoshi will usually drag it toward him. Targeting multiple objects before
pressing B will cause Yoshi to eat all of the objects you have targeted.
Dismount: Hold Z and press A to get off of Yoshi. Alternatively, if Mario gets
hurt while riding on Yoshi, Mario will fall off of Yoshi, who will run
around in a panic. If you can get back to Yoshi, Mario can re-mount, but if
you can't, you will need to find a new Yoshi egg.

CO-STAR MODE [PLYR2]

Co-star Mode is this game's multiplayer. Basically, the second player can join
at any time, gets another cursor, and gets to do a couple of things with it
that I will cover right now.

Cursor: Player 2 can pick up star bits just like player 1 can.
Shoot: Player 2 can also shoot star bits at his cursor by pressing B.
Hold: If player 2 points at an object and holds down the A button, the object
will be held in place. Player 2's cursor
Spin: For some types of objects and enemies, holding the A button and shaking
the Wii remote will cause the Luma to spin, which does the same thing as
   Mario spinning the object.
Collect: Pointing at an item such as a coin or a mushroom then pressing A will
cause the Luma to bring the item to Mario. Player 2 can also hold A to keep
the item that he is holding. This can be useful in areas such as boss
fights; holding onto a coin while Mario is fighting and giving it to him
when he gets injured can give you an extra edge in the battle.
Cheer/Boo: Press + on player 2's remote, and an audience will cheer out of the
remote's speaker. Press -, and they will boo. *

* Thanks to GiovanHyuuga for pointing this out to me.

Mushrooms and flowers and stars, oh my!

Mushrooms:
1-up Mushroom: One of the things in Mario that has never changed, green 1-up
Mushrooms will grant you an extra life in this game's very archaic (or
classic, depending on your tastes) game-over system.
Life Mushroom: A red mushroom with stars on it. Any time you find one of
these, you will want to pick it up. Not only does it refill your life, but
it also makes it so that you can carry 6 units of health. If you currently
have 6 units of health, you will simply get a 1-up. The effect will
continue until one of the following three things happens: 1) You leave the
galaxy for any reason. 2) You suffer instant death, such as quicksand or a
black hole. 3) You are reduced to 3 units of life or fewer.
Bee Mushroom: A mushroom with yellow and black stripes. This mushroom will
grant Mario the ability to temporarily fly and step on clouds. Hold the A
button in midair to fly. Mario will also wear a bee suit. This effect will
continue until Mario gets hurt, or comes into contact with water.
Boo Mushroom: A white mushroom with a mouth. This mushroom will allow Mario to
float and phase through certain solid objects. Mario will transform into a
Boo with a hat and moustache. This effect will continue until Mario gets
   hurt, or touches light.
Spring Mushroom: A silver, coiled-up mushroom. This mushroom will make Mario
bounce around instead of walking. Note that this makes it considerably
harder to walk around. The advantage here is that Mario can jump really
high. Use it to reach places that he normally couldn't. Mario will have a
spring coiled around him while in this mode. This effect will continue
until Mario gets hurt, or uses a launch star.
Rock Mushroom: A mushroom that looks like, well, a rock. This mushroom will
allow Mario to roll around in rock form, and ram into enemies and objects.
Shake the Wii remote to roll into into rock form. Certain objects can only
be destroyed by the rock. Mario will wear a red and brown rock-like outfit.
This effect will continue until Mario gets hurt, or uses a launch star.

Flowers:
Fire Flower: A red flower. This flower allows Mario to throw fireballs. Mario
dons his classic red and white outfit while in this mode. Simply shake the
Wii remote to throw a fireball. This ability will run out after a certain
   amount of time.
Cloud Flower: A cloud with a stem growing out of the bottom. This will make
Mario "floatier" in the air, causing him to fall down much more slowly. He
will also be able to create up to three cloud platforms, by spinning in
midair. These platforms will eventually disappear, and can only be boarded
by Cloud Mario. If you are in a pinch, Mario can also ground pound through
the could platforms. Obtaining another cloud flower while in this mode will
replenish the number of cloud platforms Mario can make, up to three. Even
if Mario runs out of platforms, the floatiness will still apply. Mario will
wear a red and white cloud-like outfit while in this mode. This effect will
continue until Mario gets hurt, or comes in contact with water.

Rainbow Star: This one will make Mario completely invulnerable for a short
time. He also runs considerably faster while invincible. If Mario runs
through an enemy, it will generally give you star bits, and you can defeat
any enemy this way, including Chomps and Dry Bones and whatnot. Mario will
flash rainbow colors while in this mode. This ability will run out after a
   certain amount of time.

Fruit:
Dash Pepper: A red and orange pepper. Eating one of these will cause Yoshi to
turn orange, and run around unconrollably. While running, Yoshi can scale
steep slopes, and even vertical walls that would not normally be
traversable. This ability will run out after a certain amount of time, but
eating another Dash Pepper mid-run will reset the amount of time left.
Blimp Fruit: A round, light blue fruit. Eating one of these will cause Yoshi
to turn blue and inflate like a balloon. Yoshi will consistently move
upward, as long as the air guage is not empty. You can use this to reach
high platforms and items. Holding A in this mode will cause Yoshi to hold
his breath, making him hover. This is very useful when trying to move
horizontally, but keep in mind that it is air-inefficient. You can
additionally shake the Wii remote to cancel out of blimp mode entirely,
causing Yoshi to fall to the ground. This effect will continue until the
air guage has been depleted, but eating another Blimp Fruit in midair will
   completely replenish the air guage.
Bulb Berry: A yellow, light bulb-shaped berry. Eating one of these will cause
Yoshi to turn yellow, and emit a strange light. This will cause nearby
invisible platforms to appear, when Yoshi can then walk over. Over time,
the area that is lit up will slowly get smaller, until the platforms
completely disappear. Eating another Bulb Berry will cause the effect to
   reset.

Other Items:
Spin Drill: Run into one of these to pick it up. While you are holding the
drill, spinning will cause Mario to dig through the ground directly
underneath him, through the planet until he reaches the other side (or the
inside if the planet is hollow). You can also damage enemies by drilling
into them. You will lose the drill if Mario gets hurt, uses a launch star,
   or goes through a pipe.
Checkpoint Flag: At first, this will appear to be a black flag with Bowser's
face on it. Run into it to make it become red with an "M" on it. The most
recent checkpoint flag you have touched will be the place that you respawn
if you lose a life on that stage.
Comet Medals: Each galaxy has one Comet Medal in it, and it always avaiable to
collect on the first star of the galaxy. Once you have collected a certain
number of these, a prankster comet will appear over a galaxy, allowing you
to attempt a new challenge in that galaxy. Usually, these will be similar
to another stage in that galaxy, except something is wonky, such as having
a time limit, or having to collect purple coins.
Coins: Each coin you pick up (excluding purple ones) will fill one point on
your life guage. You will also get a 1-up for every 100 you collect on
   stages after completing them.
? Coins: Collecting a large coin with a "?" inscribed on the front of it will
cause something to happen, usually one of the follwing things: Make a trail
of coins or star bits appear, make a 1-up appear, make a platform appear,
   or make a platform move.  You should generally pick these up if you see one;
   sometimes it's required anyway.
Star Bits: Star bits can be picked up by pointing at them, and are used as ammo
and currency. When shot at enemies, they will often stun them, or even
defeat them. Also, a large number of these must be collected to enter some
galaxies. You will also get a 1-up for every 100 you are holding on a
single stage. Note that collecting 100, shooting one, then collecting one
will not result in you getting two 1-ups. The deveopers foresaw this, but
it's not like you won't have enough lives anyway.

|___ | | | | |_ | ___| The Power Stars [TYPES]
|_____|_|_|_|_____|_____|------------------------------------------------------

There are several types of Power Stars in the game that I would like to cover.

Normal Stars:
These will make up the bulk of the stars you will collect throughout the
game. These will all consist of you receiving a clue as to how to get the
star (the title of the star), then following a preset path to find the star.

Bronze Stars:
On certain stages, if you are having a lot of trouble, the Cosmic Guide
option will become available to you. Simply talk to Rosali... er... the
"Cosmic Spirit", and you will be automatically guided through the stage. If
you do this on any stage, you will receive a Bronze Star instead of the
normal gold-colored one at the end of the stage. This will "mar" your
record, showing up as bronze in the star list. You can "fix" this by going
back to that stage and completing it without using the Cosmic Guide.

Grand Stars:
These are just like normal stars, except that each one will open a new world
   with new galaxies to explore.

Hidden Stars:
These stars are tucked away in a remote corner of one or more of the stages
in a galaxy, but you will not receive a clue on how to get them. Once you
have collected all of the normal stars in a galaxy, the earliest place you
can collect a hidden star will show up with a "?" above it, if you can
collect the hidden star at that time.

Comets:
Comets are stars that will appear over a stage once you have enough comet
medals. To get comets, you will need to complete different types of
challenges. Note that you will need at least 30 stars to participate in
comet challenges. You can tell by looking at the name of the comet what
type of challenge you will need to complete by looking for the following
   key words:
"Speed Run" - These will have you complete a stage or part of a stage with
an imposed time limit. Sometimes, you will need to collect clock items to
add additional time to the time limit.
"Romp" - These will give you a specific time limit during which to defeat
a group of enemies. Usually, you will get a helpful item to do this, such
as a rainbow star or a rock mushroom.
"Daredevil" - These will make you do a stage or part of a stage without
taking any damage at all. These will usually be against bosses.
"Purple Coin" - These will force you to collect 100 purple coins in part of
a stage. Sometimes, there are more than 100 coins, but you will only need
to collect 100. Whether there is a time limit on the collection of the
     coins depends on the galaxy.
"Shadow" or "Cosmic Clone" - During these comets, Cosmic Clones will spawn
and follow your every move. This means that it is dangerous to backtrack
to areas you have already been, and you must keep moving the entire time.

Green Stars:
Unfortunately, all I know about these is rumors, but from what I know, once
you get 120 stars in the main game, another 120 green stars will appear in
the galaxies, and you will have to collect them as Luigi. I can't confirm
this myself (though I don't know why it would be untrue), but as soon as I
know more about these myself, the information will be added to this section.

All you really need to do in the tutorial is move to the right. In the middle
of the tutorial, you will learn how to spin. You will be using this move a lot
during your adventure, so if you didn't play the first Super Mario Galaxy, get
used to spinning. As you are enjoying your joyride through the Mushroom
Kingdom, you might want to take the time to grab some star bits with your
cursor. From now on, I will abbreviate star bits as "SBs" for conciseness.
Once you see the cutscene with Bowser, head toward the castle. This will
trigger another cutscene. After this cutscene, one of the Lumas will transform
into a Launch Star. Jump into the launch star and shake the Wii remote to fly
to this game's first galaxy, Sky Station Galaxy.

> PEEWEE PIRANHA'S TEMPER TANTRUM < [PWPNA]

Right when you start off, jump in the red pipe to Mario's left to get an easy
1-up Mushroom. After returning to the other side of the planet, go into the
green pipe. Here, go up to the top of the hill, and spin the crystal to break
it. Once you have done that, jump into the hole that has been left there, and
you will find yourself on top of the house at the beginning of the stage. One
of the Lumas will beckon "Over here!" Run over to him and he will transform
into a launch star. Use the launch star to get to the next area.

Here, follow the Luma, making good use of the appearing and disappearing
platforms. Be careful, because if you fall off the platforms under the 1-up
mushroom, you will fall to your demise. Grab the ? coin you see, and a bunch
of musical notes will appear. Collect them all (being sure to hit the
checkpoint flag along the way) before they disappear to get 3 1-up mushrooms.
At this point, if you continue along the grassy path to the right, step on the
blue teleporter, and spin, you will be teleported to an area with a rainbow
star and a bunch of enemies. Defeat all of the enemies within a time limit to
get 3 1-up mushrooms. When you are finished with that, continue up the set of
disappearing platforms. Upon reaching the top of the tower, the Luma will
transform into a launch star, which you should then use.

This small area is made up of three planets. Jump from the first to the
second, then use the sling star on this planet. This will probably cause you
to orbit around the third planet only to fall back toward the first two. You
should, in your trajectory, however, reach another sling star. Use this one to
shoot yourself back toward the third planet, and use the launch star there.

The next area is a cylindrically-shaped planet with black holes in the middle.
Be careful of the dark-colored mud on this planet; it will cause you to walk
more slowly and not jump very high.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Continue on the path that you were taking, making sure not to be pushed
|_____| off of the planet by the trollies. You can jump on the trollies for
some extra prizes: the first will net you a 1-up mushroom, and the second, a
Comet Medal. Once you are done with that, continue along the path to where the
Luma transforms into a launch star.

Grab the life mushroom here, and hit the checkpoint flag. Continue along to
the other side of the planet, and jump up the platforms to reach another launch
star.

This looks kinda familiar.... Wait, not so much. This is Peewee Piranha, and
you have officially made him angry. You will need to get behind him and spin
his shell to break it off. Be aware that when he does him jump attack, he will
stay still for a little while, giving you a gaping opening. Once you have hit
the shell three times, he will start to run around wildly. Get behind him and
hit him one more time to make him REALLY angry. This time around, he is faster
and will perform two jump attacks in a row. Repeat the same process one more
time to claim your first star.

From now on, you will use Starship Mario to access different galaxies to
collect the power stars. Get through the ensuing conversation with Lubba, then
step on the yellow switch in front of the wheel to access the world map. From
there, you will be able to get to any galaxy you have unlocked. For more
details on the world map system, see the "World Map" section in "Game Basics".

> STORMING THE SKY FLEET < [SKFLT]

The first thing that you will notice is that the opening area is infested with
Chomps. You can defeat them by spinning the green balloon-like objects toward
them, but be careful not to get hit on the rebound: If you get hit, you will
lose some SBs and be stunned for a while, making you an easy target for a
passing Chomp. Alternatively, you can ignore them and head straight for the
green pipe on the left. On this side of the planet, one of the Chomps is
holding a key; you will need it to free the trapped Luma here. One of the
treasure chests contains a rainbow star, which makes it very easy to take down
the Chomps. Another one of the chests has a 1-up mushroom, if you want it.
Once you have collected the key, talk to the Luma and use the launch star that
he transforms into.

This will take you to a cylindrical planet with Bonzai Bills coming toward you.
Obviously, dodge the Bills and continue toward the cannons. If you are
interested, there is a rainbow star near the cannons. You can use it to take
down the Bonzai Bills, and get a lot of SBs from them. Whether or not you
decide to do this, you will need to find the metal gate near the cannons. Drop
into it and hit the checkpoint flag. Continue toward the right to get to a
teleporter (if you want it) and a launch star.

Take the launch star to land on a planet with a bunch of blue switches on it.
Hit the checkpoint flag and step on each of the switches to turn them yellow
while dodging Bonzai Bills coming from the left. Be sure not to step on any of
the switches you have already hit; they will return to being blue if you do
this. Once you hit them all, new platforms will appear. Do the same thing
here, but this time you will need to watch out for the Cosmic Clones. They
are the same speed as you, so just keep moving around, and you should be fine.
Once you have hit them all, use the launch star that appears.

You will land on yet another planet with Bonzai Bills. Continue forward, and
once you reach the trapped star, take a left. Drop into the gap with the coin
if there is a Bill chasing you, then climb up the pole. Kill the large, black,
spiky Piranha Plant here to get the key, then head back toward the Luma. Make
use of that gap on the way back, too, and grab the star.

> PEEWEE PIRANHA'S SPEED RUN < [PWPSR]

When the comet first appeared over this galaxy, I said to myself "20 bucks says
it's a Peewee Piranha speed run." It did take me by surprise, though, that the
timer started with only 20 seconds on it. You will need to collect clocks
around the stage to extend that time. Each clock will add 10 seconds to the
timer. To start off, head straight for the green pipe, and grab the clock on
top. Go through the pipe, grab the clock in plain sight, and break the
crystal. Fall through, and use the launch star.

Continue forward on the next planet, and pick up the clock to the left of the
trolley. Dodge the trolleys, and continue right. When you get to the second
set of trolleys, jump onto one of them. There are two clocks here, and the
trolley will transport you to the next launch star.

Peewee Piranha's planet has plenty of clocks on it, so if you've made it this
far, you're probably all set. Just don't get careless in your rush to defeat
him. Once the star appears, the timer will stop.

> SADDLE UP WITH YOSHI < [SDLUP]

Start off this stage by just going forward, avoiding the spiky friut-looking
things. Jump up onto the spring to get up to the higher platform, then spin
the Magikoopa to free the Yoshi egg. Spin the egg to meet Yoshi! You'll need
his help for this stage.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Head to the left of the Yoshi egg toward a hill with some fruit growing
|_____| out of the side. Jump on the spring behind it, then flutter jump to
grab the Comet Medal on top of it. Head, now, toward the dirt path with four
fruit growing along it. Continue forward. If that pink thing decides to
attach itself to Yoshi's face, simply spin to get it off. Use the teleporter
if you want to, then head toward the large fruit. Hold B while targeting it,
then pull back on the control stick, and a launch star will appear.

On this rock-like planet, use the Chance Die if you so desire, then spin the
crystals. One of them contains a launch star, but one of the others contains
an enemy, so watch out.

Here, use the springs to scale the platforms. Yoshi can eat the spiky fruit
and Piranha Plants if you pull back on the control stick, so use this to
continue upward. When you reach the top, use Yoshi's tongue to swing off of
the floating flower and reach the next planet. Use the launch star here.

Continue forward in this next area. At this point I'm going to stop reminding
you to hit checkpoint flags, so please remember to do this on your own. When
you reach a platform with a handle on it, grab it with Yoshi's tongue and pull
back to make it crossable. Continue up to the flower, then go to the right.
Continue upward up the moving platforms and flowers. Spin the crystal with the
star in it twice to release it, then use the flowers to collect it.

> SPINY CONTROL < [SPNYC]

Begin this stage in the same way as the first, additionally avoiding the Spiny.
Grab Yoshi, and continue forward. If Yoshi launches his tongue at a Spiny, it
will curl up into a ball; Yoshi will now be able to store it in his mouth as
ammo. Spit one of the Spinies at the cage with the launch star to let it out.
There is also a teleporter if you are interested. Use the launch star when you
are ready.

In the next area, use a Spiny to free the Luma in the middle cage in the
distance. He will transform into a launch star for you.

If you can hit the launch star in midair, it will take you to a new set of
planets that are orbiting around each other. If you can't, skip this
paragraph. Among the things you will find in this "secret" area are a 1-up
mushroom, a life mushroom, a launch star and a bunch of coins. Grab what you
want, then use the launch star.

In the next area, you will need to use the platforms with handles to get to
another cage. Be careful, though, because these platforms will return to their
original state if you wait too long. Grab a Spiny, break the cage, and use the
launch star.

Use the flowers to get onto the platform. Boss time! This boss is a giant
Lakitu. You will need to send three Spinies back at him to defeat him. On the
first hit, he will throw one Spiny at a time. On the second, he will throw
two. On the third he will back off into the distance making it harder for you
to hit him. The only really tricky thing he does is to pass through the stage
shooting lightning onto the platform. He always moves in a straight line, so
this should not be hard to dodge, but if you lose your Yoshi, there is an egg
near where you jumped onto the platform. Once you are done here, grab the
star.

> SPINY RAINBOW ROMP < [RWRMP]

When a comet appears over Yoshi Star Galaxy, return for a comet challenge. In
this stage, you have 60 seconds to take out 30 Spinies. The good news is that
there are plenty of rainbow stars available for you here, so get to it. The
best advice I can give is to know where the rainbow stars are. There is one at
the very beginning, three around the fountain in the middle, and near the hill
that had the Comet Medal on it. Make sure that you never run out of time on
the rainbow star; you will waste a lot of precious time if you need to run
clear across the stage to refresh your rainbow star. If you plan ahead, you
should be able to defeat all of the Spinies in time. The star will appear in
the middle when you are finished.

> DIGGA-LEG'S PLANET < [DGLEG]

You will start off on a rock with drill enemies and a spin drill. You can jump
on the drill enemies to defeat them. Grab the spin drill, and head to the
crater directly opposite the largest spire on the planet. Spin to drill
through the planet. Talk to the Luma here, and he will transform into a launch
star. Use it.

The next planet has some flower-type enemies on it. Either hit them when they
retract their petals or jump on them to defeat them.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ On the opposite side of the planet from where you started, there is a
|_____| slightly-raised square-shaped area. Drill through it to reach a
platform with four coins and a Comet Medal. Jump off, then drill through the
raised area on THIS side of the planet, then drill back through to the other
side, through the other side of the platform, and talk to the Luma. Use the
launch star that he transforms into.

Be careful of the disappearing platforms in the next area; they will flash blue
just before they disappear, so be sure to jump off in time. There is a
teleporter to the right and a 1-up mushroom to the left. When you reach the
far platform with six coins on it, wait for the Luma to show up. He will
transform into a launch star for you to use.

In the next area, grab a spin drill, and drill anywhere on the planet. It is
hollow, so it doesn't matter where. Grab some coins if you feel so inclined,
then drill through the indent on the inside of the planet. Use the launch star
up here.

This will take you to the Starshroom, where a member of the Toad Brigade will
meet you. Ignore him, and talk to the Luma nearby. He will trade you 30 SBs
for either a life mushroom or a 1-up mushroom. Generally, the life mushroom is
a significantly better choice, so grab one and use the launch star here.

Meet Digga-Leg, a cheap Mega-Leg ripoff. The goal here is to smash into the
star's glass casing with the spin drill. The problem is that most of the time,
the casing is flipped up above Digga-Leg. In this form, he will smash the
ground, sending a shockwave through the planet. A drill enemy will spawn at
the far end of the planet so you should avoid that. You will need to hit the
glass casing three times to defeat Digga-Leg. Each time you hit him, he will
send out more shockwaves, and jump around more. When he shakes up and down and
lets out steam, he is about to flip over, so prepare to drill then. Once you
defeat him, grab the star.

> SILVER STARS DOWN DEEP < [DWNDP]

Right at the beginning here, you will need to worry about Cosmic Clones.
Again, just keep moving. Once you find a crystal with a sling star in it,
break it to destroy the clones. Use it to jump up the the Piranha Plant on the
elevated platform, and jump onto the vine that it leaves behind. Spin to move
upward, toward a teleporter. Use it if you want to, then head down the pipe.
Use the spin drill to venture lower, using the inclined walls to "bounce" the
drill as necessary. Once you reach the pipe at the bottom, enter it. In this
area, you simply have to time your drillings to dodge the Amps. For the fast
one, it is easier if you move to one of the sides before you drill. When you
reach the bottom, go into the pipe. Free the launch star, then use it. You
will land on a Starshroom. Grab the coin if you need it, then use the next
launch star as well.

The goal of Silver Star missions are simple: Grab all five silver stars! Two
of the silver stars are on the outside, one on the left and one on the right.
The other three are on the inside, one on the left and two on the right. Once
you have found all five, the star will appear on the top of the planet.

When a comet appears over Spin-Dig Galaxy, return for a comet challenge. This
one requires you to defeat Digga-Leg without taking damage. The fight itself
is no different from the first one, so you can use the same strategies as

can drill through the shockwaves before they reach you, but he will usually
send out another one when you do this.

> SEARCH FOR THE TOAD BRIGADE CAPTAIN < [CAPTN]

Man, the Toad Brigade is ALREADY causing trouble? Those guys need to learn to
stay out of Mario games. Anyway, right from the start, if you climb up the
tree to the left and grab the ? coin, 8 coins will appear, which you can
collect if you desire. Once you are done with that, follow the path toward the
Cloud Flower. The cloud flower will allow you to make cloud platforms as well
as be floatier when you jump. Spin to make some platforms to the next area.
If you take damage or touch water, you will need to get a new cloud flower, but
there is one in the area up ahead. Use it to scale the wall. Grab another
cloud flower, since it will restock your cloud platform capacity, and hit the
checkpoint flag. Continue onward toward the next platform, using the cloud
platforms as you see fit. If you want to get the Comet Medal, try to keep at
least two clouds when you reach the next area. Wall jump up to the launch
star.

 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Right as you land, you should notice the Comet Medal. You will need a
|_____| few cloud platforms to grab it; just do your best to line to platforms
up correctly. By the time you have the medal, you will probably already have
some Cosmic Clones chasing you. You will also see some triagular objects.
These are star chips. If you collect all five on this planet, the clones will
be defeated and a launch star will appear. So, do so. Use the launch star
that appears when you are done.

More cloud flower fun! The stone faces in this area will try to push you off
of the platforms, but you can jump on them, so try to use them to your
advantage. Use the stone faces and the cloud platforms to make it to the top
of the wall, then make your way toward the swing. There are plenty of cloud
flowers in this area, so don't worry if you lose yours. Continue forward and
you will find the captain. He says that someone named "The Chimp" challenged
him to a race. Whatever. Keep going forward, and up to the top of the
mountain to find this so-called The Chimp, and talk to him. He will give you
the star for free, so you don't need to worry about a race. The Toad Brigade
captain was probably just making it up because he was afraid.

> THE CHIMP'S STOMP CHALLENGE < [STPCH]

Once you unlock the Mailtoad, The Chimp will send you a letter, challenging you
to a minigame in Fluffy Bluff Galaxy. You MUST get that letter before you
attempt this star. Start off by talking to The Chimp. He will tell you to
beat 10,000 points in 120 seconds in his minigame. The idea here is to jump on
enemies and collect coins to get points. You can get the largest amount of
points by jumping on multiple enemies in a row without touching the ground.
Make good use of your midair spin while doing this; it makes chains a lot
easier to rack up. You will get 100 points for the first enemy in the chain,
200 for the second, and 300 for every enemy after that. You will also get 100
points for each coin and 10 for each SB you pick up. Here are a few tips for
getting a good score. Just to the behind the starting point, there is a tree
with a ? coin in it. Not only will you get 1,000 points for the ? coin, but
eight more coins will also appear, for a total of 1,800 points. In the area
with the fountains, there is a life mushroom behind the tree. Grab it for an
easy 1,000 points. Try to use the sling star on the building with upwards of
30 seconds left. There are a ton of enemies and coins to get up here, and you
can easily bulk up your score in this area. The 1-up mushroom up here is also
worth 1,000 points, and the ? block has eight coins in it. Once the timer runs
out, if you have 10,000 points or more, you will get a star. Otherwise, you
will lose a life.

> EVERY PLANET HAS ITS PRICE < [EPHIP]

Pick "Search for the Toad Brigade Captain". You will need to get a whopping
100 coins to feed a hungry Luma that is hidden on this stage. To start your
coin-collecting adventure, head to the right of the starting point, and grab
the ? coin in the tree for 8 coins. The tree in the area with the fountains
has a pipe behind it. You can play a minigame where you try to collect coins
before they disappear. If you can get them all, you will get not only 64
coins, but 3 1-ups as well. Once you reach the first cloud flower, make three
cloud platforms straight up, such that you can reach the ? block. You should
notice that the tree has a Toad and a sling star on it. Long jump onto the
tree, and use the sling star. You will notice the Luma and a ? coin. Grab the
? coin and another 40 coins will appear. Grab as many as you can. If you have
100 or more, talk the the Luma, give him the coins, and use the launch star
that appears.

Here, you will need to scale the wall using the cloud flower and the moving
platforms. Try to use the provided platforms whenever possible, as they will
not cost you cloud platforms. There will be plenty of cloud flowers along the
way, however, and you can always backtrack if you run out. When you reach the
top, grab the star.

> THINK BEFORE YOU SHAKE < [TKBSK]

There is a simple, underlying mechanic here: Every time you spin, all of the
red and blue platforms will switch. Therefore, when jumping from one platform
to an opposite-colored platform, spin. When jumping from one platform to a
like-colored platform, don't spin. Starting with the part with the electrical
fences, you will have more to think about. Just keep your cool, and jump
through the gaps in the fences. The Chomps represent the hardest part of this
stage. There will be places where you can hide from them, though, so make use
of them. The Chomps will ALWAYS follow a like-colored path, so if one is
rolling on blue, you will be completely safe from it on red.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Near the end of this area is a Comet Medal on a blue platform. It's
|_____| not actually on the path of any Chomps, so it shouldn't be too hard to
grab. At the end of the level, the electric fences come back. This is really
the part where you will need to pay attention to what color platform you are
jumping to, since this area forces you to do some like-colored-platform jumps.
The last jump is a opposite-colored jump, so perform it and grab the star!

> PURPLE COIN FLIP 'N' SPRINT < [PCFLP]

The good news here is that the underlying mechanic in this level is completely
unchanged. The bad news: the layout of the platforms is entirely different,
and you only have 3 minutes to collect 100 purple coins. All of the purple
coins are in plain sight, so finding the coins should be mostly a non-issue.
The hard part is getting them without succumbing to a trap. The Chomps and
electric fences are all intact on this stage, so you will need to dodge
plentiful traps while collecting the coins. If you are moving at a decent
pace, 3 minutes should be enough time, so don't be afraid to spend a little of
your time to keep yourself alive. Once you reach the 100th coin on the last
platform, the star will appear right in front of you.

> BREAKING THE LAWS OF GRAVITY < [LWGRV]

2-dimensional gravity platforming fun! I really like this galaxy. The gravity
mechanic here is pretty easy to understand: Most of the areas of this galaxy
have arrows on the walls. The gravity always points in the direction of the
arrows. If there are no arrows, the gravity points down, except for in the
green part. Start off by going downward until you reach a flower. You can
ground pound the switch here for a few coins, then jump onto the flower. Spin
a couple of times to have it launch you onto the next platform. Dodge the
spiked enemy and spin the switch just ahead. This will cause the direction of
gravity to change to up. Continue to the right, being very careful of the
black hole. Spin the purple Piranha Plant up ahead, then jump on it. Use the
next flower to launch you to the next area. Keep on going to the right. The
? coin here will cause a lot of coins to appear. The next area will have you
jumping between gravity directions and moving platforms. Always be aware of
your jump height, so you don't accidentally switch directions. After passing
the purple Toad, head up on the moving platform to find another switch. You
will then need to take the same platform down to the next area. The yellow and
black ceiling will warn you of dangers such as Chomps and Thwomps. Getting
crushed by a Thwomp is instant death, so be very careful in this area.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ This is tricky, but if you are between the two Thwomps in this area,
|_____| you can wall jump off of the right-most one, then wall jump off the
wall to reach the Comet Medal. Once you've done this, continue right. Grab
the Fire Flower, and use it to burn the crates. Keep moving to the right,
burning the crates in your way. When you jump to the area with the green wall,
you will actually stick to it. Keep going to the right. After some Goombas
and moving platforms, you'll be back in the 2-dimensional section. The Thwomps
here are all scripted in a pattern, and at the very beginning of the upward
gravity section, there is a small area to hide if you need to take a breather.
You should see the star now. The hard part is getting it. The trick is to
spin while right above it, and you will fall right onto it.

> THE GREAT CRATE INCINERATOR < [BRNCT]

Pick "Breaking the Laws of Gravity". In the first gravity section with the
switch, after flipping the switch, head back toward the left. There will be a
pipe on the ceiling. Enter it. Inside, there is a fire flower and a bunch of
boxes. Burn the boxes to find another pipe in the far right corner of the
room. Enter this pipe as well. You will be tasked with burning a set of boxes
in 20 seconds. This time, your fireballs will go through the boxes, so you can
take out more than one box per fireball. With a bit of strategy, you should be
able to figure out a way to get them all within the time limit. For your
efforts, a star.

This stage is mostly a straight path, so just follow it forward. The enemies
with helmets can be defeated by spinning them, then jumping on them. Also,
watch out for the fire rod and Thwomp.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ This is pretty tricky, but when the first Thwomp descends, you can
|_____| backflip onto it from the left side. If you manage to get on top of
it, you can collect the Comet Medal. Spin the Magikoopa in the next area, then
flip the nearby switch to open the door. The Dry Bones here cannot be defeated
permanently, so just jump into the sling star to reach the next area. This
part has fire rods and Dry Bones. Just avoid everything and keep moving
forward. After spinning the Magikoopa, there is a life mushroom off to the
left, which I highly recommend getting. Once you have it, use the nearby
launch star.

Enter Bowswer Jr. Ironically, he says that he will deal with you himself, then
leave to let one of his monsters attack you, Gobblegut. He will also
specifically reveal to you his weak point, his "bellyache bulges". Gross.
Anyway, Gobbleget will mainly try to slam into you. It is easiest to hit him
when he is burrowing into the ground, since every bulge will get stuck on the
way in. As a tip, I highly recommend hitting the last three bulges first. You
can destroy the bulges by spinning them. Once you break three, he will become
angrier and faster.  This is why I recommended you break the last three first;
it will be much easier at this point to hit the first three. Once you manage
to break all six you will be awarded with your first Grand Star! This will
allow you to access World 2.

You can ground pound anything with the "burst" icon on it, but the most
important thing here is the center wooden piece. Ground pounding that will
snap the piece of the planet into the slot right below it. Ground pounding is
also a good strategy against the Wigglers here. Now, ground pound the switches
to get some goodies. The far-left one will give you a bunch of musical notes
worth 3 lives, and the near-right one has a launch star. When you're ready,
go ahead and use that.

On this next planet, your job is to pound the platforms on the other side of
the planet so they pop back out on the side you start on. It's easiest to
start with the tallest platform, so pound it, as well as the others, in. Once
all three have been pounded in, run back around to the other side, and use the
now-reachable launch star.

The platform that you will land on will slowly be cut away by the saws that you
can see.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ You will need to be quick for this one. On the left side of this
|_____| platform is a small area jutting out of the side. It contains a Comet
Medal, but it gets cut away fairly quickly, and it is very hard to get without
the platform there. The next few saws up ahead will cut down a wall so you can
pass through, and a wall jump area. The next few platforms will be cut away
entirely by the saws here, so you will need to be quick. The purple bug enemy
that can be found here is called a Mandibug. To defeat it, all you need to do
is ground pound its back. If you jump on it, though, it will not be able to
carry your weight, and won't move. Therefore a quick ground pound will take
care of it. Ground pound the switch at the end to make a sling star appear.
Use it quickly before the platforms get cut away, and it will take you to a
Luma shop. Buy the mushroom of your choice, and use the launch star.

You will need to shift the pieces of this puzzle so that the top surface shows
a picture of a bug. Each surface with a burst icon needs to be ground pounded
three times. Once the puzzle is complete, a Mandibug stack will appear. It's
pretty much the same as one Mandibug, except it needs to be ground pounded
twice, and it gets faster after the first hit. Once you make it a permanent
part of the floor, grab the star.

> PURPLE COIN SHADOW VAULT < [PCVLT]

When a comet appears over Puzzle Plank Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
You have 1 minute to get all of the purple coins in this room. The catch?
There are tons of Cosmic Clones. Make sure that you plan ahead so that you
don't have to retrace your steps. Once you get all 100, the star will appear
in the middle of the room.

> BUGABOOM'S BACK < [BGABM]

Pick "The Puzzling Picture Book". Your goal is to have 70 coins by the end of
the second planet. There are five in the far-right switch at the beginning of
the stage, and four more on the path on the second planet. The enemy on top of
the platforms is holding one, and the ? coin has five. The bushes at the
bottom of the platforms are hiding four more (just run through the bushes to
make them pop out), and pounding one of the wooden stumps on the planet will
yield five more. You can potentially have 24 coins now. Jump into the pipe
and pick up the ? coin here to make another 48 coins appear. Try to grab as
many as you can, since you will need most of them. When you have 70 or more,
talk to the Luma on the bottom of the planet, and give him 70 coins. He will
transform into a new planet! Use the launch star to get over there.

Use the cloud mushrooms to get to the platform with the tree, and you will see
a familiar face. Hey, it's Bugaboom! The strategy here is similar to the one
in the first Super Mario Galaxy, except this time, you need to get above him
using the cloud mushrooms. Three ground pounds to the back will take him down.
On the first hit, he will walk on the ground. For the second he will fly. On
the third, he will fly faster, as well as leaning from side to side to prevent
you from ground pounding him or standing on his back. Also, if you hit the
water, you will need to grab a fresh cloud mushroom. Once you have hit him all
three times, grab your star.

Enjoy the Super Mario World theme song here; it's quite the classic. Cross the
bridge in front of you, and grab Yoshi. Run up the incline here quickly, you
will need the momentum to get high enough to eat the Dash Pepper up here. When
you touch the pepper (or eat it with Yoshi's tongue), you will have enough
momentum to run up steep inclines (and vertical walls) continue forward, and
use the launch star at the end of the path.

In this next area, you will need to use the pepper to get up the wall in front
of you without hitting any of the obstacles along the way. If you really want
it, there is a 1-up on top of the wall, which you would require that you get
the dash pepper on the left side of the wall. You will probably just want to
get to the launch star on the right side of the wall. Once you reach it, use
it.

In this next area, the grey platforms will fall away when you step on them.
You will want to jump liberally in this area, and make good use of the dash
pepper that is so kindly placed here for you. Once you make it to the end, use
the launch star.

This next area will have you running along walls again. This time, though,
there isn't any ground below you in some places, so if you mess up, it very
well may spell doom for Mario and Yoshi. You can gain some extra balance by
targeting the poles with Yoshi's tongue, if you feel like you need some time to
think about your moves.
 _____

| |___ At the top of the second wall is a small alcove that contains a Comet
|_____| Medal. Be sure not to knock yourself into a position where you will
miss the ground if you fall. Once you have the medal, continue on to the left.
Once you reach the slope, use the flowers to get to the next platform. The
star is in a small inset on the next wall. You might consider bouncing off the
wall to the right of the star to collect it; it's very difficult to pick up
during a dash.

> HIGHTAIL FALLS SPEED RUN < [FLSSR]

When a comet appears over Hightail Falls Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
You have 3 minutes to complete this stage. Not only are you timed here, but
there are also meteors, and some of the platforms have chunks taken out of
them. Fun, fun. Better get moving! If any of the pink enemies in this level
latch themselves onto Yoshi's face, spin to destroy them. Use the first dash
pepper in the stage to run straight to the launch star.

The next area is the tall wall. Remember to head up the right side to get to
the launch star.

You will now have to deal with the grey, falling platforms. This time around,
though, they are not full squares, so you will also have to dodge the gaps in
the platforms. Use the dash pepper to quickly make it to the launch star at
the end.

This part has the largest difference: Wall running around meteors. Thankfully,
the camera zooms out far enough such that you can see what you're doing, but
this is still an arduous task. If you manage to dodge the meteors AND get to
the end within 3 minutes, you will have a well-deserved star waiting for you.

> SILVER STARS IN HIGHTAIL FALLS < [SSHTL]

For this one, you will need to have 30 coins by the time you reach the area
with the poles on the walls. The best places to get coins are the first wall
that you have to run up, and the teleporter at the end of the falling platform
section. On the wall, the ? coin will cause a lot of coins to appear, and
there are also a lot of coins on the right side of the wall. If you don't have
enough coins by the end of the falling platform section, the teleporter to the
right of the launch star has some extras for you. It is important that you
don't lose any lives; losing a life will cause you to start at the checkpoint
with 0 coins. Once you reach the Luma, give him 30 coins and use the new
launch star.

On the new planet, there are a bunch of frog-like enemies running around
holding items. Five of those items happen to be silver stars, and Yoshi's
tongue is super effective against the enemies, so get to work. Once you have
all five, grab your star.

> ROCK AND ROLLODILLO < [RLDLO]

Right at the beginning, defeat the three nearby enemies to free the Rock
Mushroom. Does Mario, like, eat that thing? Anyway, grab it to become Rock
Mario. In this form, spin to become a boulder, which can smash into things to
break them. You will exit boulder form after Mario rams into something, or
after a certain amount of time. Be careful, because smashing the boulder into
the fences around this stage will break them, making it easier to fall off
later.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ On the left, you should notice a Toad going at a crystal with a
|_____| pickaxe. As much as I hate helping out the Toad Brigade, ramming the
crystal twice in rock form yields a Comet Medal, so you might as well go ahead
and do that. Once you're done, ram into the red and grey wall to knock it
down. Roll, now, off the red and yellow ramp to get to the next area. Here,
you will once again be tasked with defeating all of the enemies. Use Rock
Mario to mow them down, defeating a lot at once. Just be sure not to break too
many of the fences. Also, if you get injured, there is a rock mushroom on a
platform across from the checkpoint flag. Once you are done, the cage will
open to reveal a launch star.

The launch star will take you to a rocky planet with some boulders and Chomps
on it. Do not roll into the Chomps; you cannot defeat them this way. You may
notice another Toad with a pickaxe. Ram into the rock he is mining to reveal
a pipe. There are six chance dice in here, and this area can be a good source
of coins and lives. Once you are done, find the crystal with the sling star
inside, and roll into it twice. The sling star will take you to a Luma shop
and a launch star. Grab a snack from the Luma shop, and then take the launch
star to the boss.

Meet Rollodillo. What you will need to do here is to grab the rock mushroom
and roll into his unprotected backside. The first time, this is easy, but then
he will curl up and try to roll into you. Dodge him a couple of times, and he
will uncurl, giving you a chance to strike. Each time you hit him, he will get
slightly smarter about how he tries to hit you. After hitting him twice, he
will roll at you twice before stopping, and after hitting him three times, he
will roll at you three times before stopping. Once you have hit him for the
fourth and final time, he will relinquish his star.

> ROLLING CRABBER ROMP < [RLRMP]

When a comet appears over Boulder Bowl Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
Here, you will 60 seconds to defeat 30 Crabbers on a small, spherical planet.
You will be allotted a rock mushroom to get the job done. Keep in mind that
your turning radius in rock mode is absolutely awful, so aim before you spin.
Also, if you take damage, you lose the rock mushroom, which will cost you some
time. The green Crabbers are much faster, so you might want to specifically
aim for them if they are nearby. Also, since the planet is meshy, you can see
through it. Therefore, you don't necessarily need to be right next to an enemy
to aim for it. Once you take them all down, grab your star.

> C'MERE, GOOMBA < [CMERE]

Once you unlock the Mailtoad, Gearmo will send you a letter, asking for help in
Boulder Bowl Galaxy. You MUST get that letter before you attempt this star.
Pick "Rock and Rollodillo". On the spherical planet with boulders and Chomps,
find Gearmo, and talk to him. He will ask for a Goomba. As a preprocessing
step, try to take out the boulders in this area. If a Goomba walks into a
boulder, it will get crushed, and little guys aren't very smart. Once you're
done with that, ram into the rocks in this area. Some of them have Goombas
inside. Once you find a Goomba, have it follow you back to Gearmo. Once it
walks between the markers, Gearmo will hold it up Zelda-style, and give you a
star.

Ah, a water galaxy... how peaceful. Anyway, before you jump into the water, I
highly recommend grabbing the shell from the Koopa to the left; it makes
swimming a lot easier. Continue along the underwater path until you reach a
spiny puffer fish
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ If you keep going in the same direction underwater, past the ? coin and
|_____| the line of coins that it spawns, you should see the Comet Medal in
plain sight inside a seashell. If you get lost, try to find your way back to
the cave you came out of. Once you have it, head to the surface and try to
find a castle-like object nearby. Swim to it once you find it, and climb up.
Ground pound the switch on the top to freeze all of the water. Directly in
front of you, you should notice a pair of now-frozen waterfalls. Skate over in
that direction, and wall jump up them once you reach them. To skate, simply
spin while you are standing on ice. This is significantly faster than running
or swimming. Once you reach the waterfalls, wall jump up them to reach the
top, and spin the crystal twice to release the star. Jump across and grab it.

> EXPLORING THE COSMIC CAVERN < [CCVRN]

This time around, the planet will start completely frozen. You will need to
grab a key to free the Luma in the cage. Start by heading in the same
direction as last time, taking care not to touch the ice enemies around here.
You should eventually find a pipe. Jump down it and ground pound the blocks to
reach a 2-dimensional swimming section. Start by heading up the ramp, avioding
the bubbles. If you happen to hit a bubble, it will take you all the way back
down the ramp, so be careful. Wall jump up and dive into the water. Grabbing
bubbles and coins will replenish your air when underwater, so be sure to find
one if you are running out. Head down, then right, and spin the switch to open
the door. Continue downward, being careful of the eels in this area. After
performing their bite attack, they will retract into their caves, so use that
opportunity to continue onward. At the very bottom, there is a pipe. In this
next area, you will need to swim through the floating water in an upwardly
direction. Watch out for the mines on your way up. At the top, you will find
a platform with a penguin. The next section will require you to stay within
the moving water boxes. Continue along, moving from box to box. At the end of
this area is the key, and a pipe. Grab the key, then jump into the pipe. Talk
to the Luma that you have just rescued, and he will transform into a launch
star. Hah, I bet you thought you were done. You will land on a Starshroom.
Using the nearby launch star will send you straight over the star, and onto a
sherical planet with a ring around the middle.

The purple enemies here can be defeated only when they are purple. Every time
they jump, they will turn yellow and stretch out. If you touch them while they
are yellow, you will take damage. Grab the spin drill, and try digging through
the various dirt spots until you find one that exits on the other side of the
planet. You will need to defeat the enemies in this area by ground pounding or
drilling them. One of them is holding a key. Once you find it, drill into the
area that you have unlocked, and the planet will fill up with water. The star
is now easily accessible.

> CATCH THAT STAR BUNNY < [STBNY]

Pick "Twin Falls Hideaway". You will need to collect 15 coins before wall
jumping up the waterfalls. The best source of coins is the ? coin underwater,
near the cave with the puffer fish in it. There are plenty of coins on the
surface of the water that are readily available after you freeze the water.
Once you have 15, talk to the Luma near the castle, and give him the coins.
Use the launch star that appears here.

This will take you to a very dangerous-looking planet. If you fall in any of
the holes here, you will lose a life. Talk to the star bunny nearby, and he
will dare you to catch him. The easiest way to do this is to pound one of the
nearby switches to freeze the water, then skate to catch him. He is faster
than you while running, but while you are skating, you have the edge. Get
close to him and spin to catch him. Once you do so, he will give you a star.

This stage is fun! You will try to glide Fluzzard to the sun circle at the
end. To start the tutorial, talk to the bird in the middle. Once you are
comfortable with the controls, start up the actual minigame. Here are some
things to consider while gliding. Crashing into a wall will cause you to lose
a life, so try not to do that. Running into other objects such as gates will
only cost you one health, but remember that you only have 3 health. The
balloons generally have SBs inside; you can break them by running into them or
by shooting a SB at them. Just in case you take damage, there are coins lying
around the stage, so you can replenish your health. Make it to the sun circle
to get a star. Note that you do not need to beat 1:30.

Get it? It's a pun. About bees. Anyway, if you played the first Super Mario
Galaxy, you will probably recognize the music here as an arrangement of the
Honeyhive theme from the first game. Sweet. Start off toward the left, wall
jumping when necessary. Grab the swings by jumping into them, then let go
with the desired trajectory with the A button. Use this technique to cross the
next gap. Don't worry if you fall in, there is an area underneath, which you
can use to climb up, if necessary. Continue upward until you reach the Bee
Mushroom. You can use this to fly small heights, but touching water will make
you lose the ability. Fly up to the next platform, then continue right and up.
Avoid the flying enemies and water. If you need them, there are bee mushrooms
scattered among this area, so you can always backtrack if you take damage.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ To the right of the first flying enemy is another enemy of the same
|_____| type; to the left of it is a Comet Medal in an alcove. Be careful not
to get hit on the way in or the way out. After you grab it, continue upward.
Once the camera rotates again, jump onto the vines to go to the next area.
There are some huge grapes here, and if you hit one, you will bounce off. This
is dangerous, but you can use it to your advantage to get high-up items.
Hitting one will also restore a small amount of your fly guage, as does
collecting coins midair. Coninue right and up, until you reach an area with
poles. You grab onto the poles to fill up your fly guage, but watch out for
Fuzzies that might be lurking on the poles. Keep moving up, then cross the
large gap on the right using the swings. Grab the vine to go to the next area.
This part requires a lot of flying with the bee mushroom, and there are a lot
of things to watch out for. The spiky plant enemies will lunge toward you
every once in a while, and the flower-like platform will eat you if you stand
on it for too long. Being mindful of these things, continue right until you
reach a set of cloud platforms. Fly from the first to the second, then from
the second to the star just above it. The bees will send you a 1-up mushroom
after you beat this stage, so you can talk to the Mailtoad after you beat it
for a free life!

Pick "Bumble Beginnings". Just before the first bee you meet, there is a
swing. If you manage to swing up to the right and do a well-timed spin, you
can wall jump off of the wall high above the bee. Continue upward and above
the nearby alcove for an easy hidden star.

That's a mouthful! Also, the Koopa's Road theme is back again! Classic video
game music is the best! Walk forward, and spin the Magikoopa to spawn a Pull
Star. These are used by pointing at them with the cursor, and holding A. The
cursor will change into a glove when you are hovering over the pull star, so
you will know when you are doing it right. Cross the next planet using the
moving platforms. Be careful of the fireballs that jump in and out of the lava
here. Once you reach the other side, ground pound the spring to reach the next
planet. You can backflip over the spinning fireballs here, but don't cross the
lava until you find the floating life mushroom; you will want it later in this
stage. Once you find it, board the platforms and cross the lava. Backflip
over this set of fireballs, too, and break the launch star out of the crystal.

The launch star will take you to an area with flipping platforms and, you
guessed it, more lava. The platforms will shake before they flip, so if the
platform you are on starts to shake, find somewhere else to be. Grab the 1-up
mushroom if you are feeling bold, and if you want to find out how much the Toad
Brigade fails, head right. It seems that they have found a coin for you.
Yippee. Continue forward to fight a Hammer Bro. He will throw two hammers at
you before taking a break. Use this time to spin him, then kick him.
Defeating him will cause a sling star to appear. Use it to get to a platform
with some fire rods. Grab the ? coin on the pillar if you need some coins,
then ground pound the nearby switch. This will cause the platform to fall
down. Continue forward to find more flipping platforms. Cross the platforms,
and you will be on a platform with a couple of Whomps. If a Whomp sees you, it
will slam its face into the ground in an attempt to crush you. It is succeeds,
you will suffer instant death, so don't let that happen. If you manage to step
out of the way in time, ground pound its back to yield a bunch of SBs.
 _____

| |___ Just above the second Whomp is the Comet Medal. If you backflip, then
|_____| spin off of the Whomp's back, you will get enough height to reach the
medal. Once you have it, ground pound the Whomp and continue to the right.
Jump toward the gold meteorite to get pulled toward it, then ground pound the
burst icon to break down the door. Jump into the purple force field to get
pulled to the next area. Here, you will need to traverse the platform without
falling into the holes left by the skulls as they eat at the platform. The
first set will move around in a fairly predictable manner, but the second set
is fairly random in its trajectory; be very careful here. Once you are past
that, jump onto the purple platform. In classic Super Mario fashion, it will
start to make a path that you will need to follow to get to the end. The path
will come to a life mushroom very soon after it starts; if you have lost any
lives since the first life mushroom, make sure you grab it. When the path
reaches the other side, be sure to get off, since the path will start to sink
into the lava. The next area is similar, but the platform is smaller. The
nearby statues will fire lasers that you will need to jump over to get to the
other side. When you reach the end, you will find two Hammer Bros to welcome
you. If you're having trouble dealing with them, try spinning the hammers.
They will turn into SBs if you time it correctly, but you will get hurt if you
don't. Once you're done here, continue forward. There is another meteorite
here, but I would like to draw your attention to the flagpole just to the left
of it. It has yet another life mushroom on it. Grab it, then ground pound
meteorites into the three Bowser faces on the door. You will be sucked into a
void once you are done.

Bowser will mention something about space pancakes, which made me hungry, but
continue on when you are ready. Three meteorites will fall on the planet you
are on. You can tell where they are going to land, because there will be a
glowing circle where they are targeting.  Bowser will then punch the planet;
again, avoid the glowing circle. He will get stuck, during which time you
should ground pound one of the now-floating meteorites at him. After you do
this twice, he will add flame breath to the mix. Just keep moving, and you
should have no problem dodging this. Two more hits will yield a Grand Star.
Bowser will mention something about a "master plan", but you can worry about
that later. Grab the Grand Star, and head to World 3!

> LAVA LAIR SPEED RUN < [LVASR]

When a comet appears over Bowser's Lava Lair, return for a comet challenge.
You have 30 seconds to finish the entire stage! Just kidding, but the timer
will only start off with 30 seconds on it. When you see a clock, grab it to
add 10 seconds to the timer. I'm going to assume that you can find most of the
timers on your own, but I will point out some of the ones that are harder to
find.

On the cylindrical planet with the moving platforms, there will be a life
mushroom in the same place it was before; be sure to grab that. The extra
health will help out in a pinch, if you need to do something dangerous in order
to grab a clock.

There is a clock where the Toad Brigade used to be, to the right of the first
set of flipping platforms. On the next planet, there is a clock above the
pillar with the fire rods coming out of it. Just backflip onto the pillar to
get to the top. To the left of the first Thwomp is another clock; make sure
you jump over the electric fence.

After you get past the Bowser statues that shoot lasers, the star will be right
in front of you.

Right at the start, run around to the other side of the planet to find a Yoshi
egg. Bust Yoshi out, then run back around to the giant tree. You will find a
teleporter and some Blimp Fruit. Use the teleporter if you need lives, then
have Yoshi eat one of the blimp fruit. While floating, you can hold A to hold
Yoshi's breath, causing you to hover, or you can spin to cancel out of blimp
mode entirely. Use the blimp fruit to make your way up the tree. At the top,
there is a life mushroom, and a launch star. Grab the mushroom if you can get
high enough, then use the launch star.

You will land on a cylindrical planet. Use the blimp fruit you see here to get
on the moving platforms above you. Jump in the pipe on the left if you need
some lives. After that, make your way to the blimp fruit on the right.

your air guage, and continue upward. You should see some star chips floating
in this area. Since the gravity in this area is circular, just jump down and
use the blimp fruit here to grab all five. Once you get them all, a launch
star will appear in an alcove. Use the blimp fruit to get to it.

When you land, the star will be right below you. Unfortunately, you will need
to do a little bit more platforming before you can get to it. Jump down the
tunnel on the right. When you land, grab the blimp fruit and start your
ascent. You will need to make good use of the hover function in order to avoid
the spiky fruit in this area (since you cannot use your tongue in blimp mode).
Grab the blimp fruit as you see them, and continue upward to your star.

> TALL TRUNK'S BIG SLIDE < [BGSLD]

One of the locals here, called Whittles, will mention a "green 'stache". Looks
like we found Luigi. In any case, use the teleporter here if you need lives,
then jump onto the swing. Use the swings to ascend the tree to the launch star
near the top.

The launch star will take you to the slide of this level's namesake. When
you're ready, jump in for some classic slide music! Watch out for Spinies,
spiky fruit, and Wigglers on the way down. Keep in mind that you can still
jump with the A button, and spin in midair. This will also cause you to move a
little slower, so it might come in handy if you lose control. If you get hurt,
try to grab one of the coins on the way down. If you're really accurate, the
balloons here contain SBs. If you fall through a hole in the slide, or off the
edge, you will have to try again, so be careful. Don't get discouraged; this
is HARD! When you reach the bottom, talk to the frighteningly trianular
Whittle to get a star. Looks like Luigi wasn't here after all. Too bad....

> TALL TRUNK'S PURPLE COIN SLIDE < [PCSLD]

Just when I thought the slide couldn't get any harder, they drop some purple
coins on it. The good news is that there are 140 of them, and you only need
100. Additionally, the Spinies are gone, though the spiky fruit and Wigglers
aren't. Unfortunately, even getting "just" 100 of the coins is no mean feat,
especially since some of the coins on the slide are mutually exclusive. I
know this is probably not what you want to hear from a guide, but I feel like
the best advice I can give you here is "practice makes perfect". If you manage
to grab 100 or more, you will get a star, but be sure to collect a
well-deserved 1-up mushroom behind the tree first.

forward, collecting the cloud flowers as you need them. If you look to the
right, you should notice a life mushroom. Grab it if you want it, then keep
going forward. Once you reach the platform at the end, the Whittle will hint
that you should make a cloud in the wind current. If you do so, the wind will
push the cloud platform, giving you a free ride. The platforms that look like
drums are very bouncy. Use them and your cloud platforms to get up to the
cymbal-like platform. If you ground pound the middle of the cymbal, a lot of
SBs will appear. Use the launch star when you are done here.

Grab the cloud flower to replenish your cloud platform supply, then make a
platform above the grated air current in the middle of the area. Avoid getting
squashed by the platforms that are sticking out of the wall, and jump on top.
There is a teleporter up here if you want to use it. When you are ready,
ground pound the springs and create a cloud platform in the wind current. You
may need two platforms to traverse this gap. Once on the other side, use the
launch star.

Grab a fresh cloud flower, and continue to the right. Create a cloud platform
in the air current, and go up, being careful not to hit the spiky fruit. Next,
you will need to jump down into the air current before you make the platform.
Again, don't be afraid to make two platforms here; there is a cloud flower at
the top of the wall just ahead. Grab it, then continue to the right. You will
come to an area with an upward air current, and two walls that close in on each
other. Time your cloud platform so that you don't get crushed.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ There will be a small alcove in the walls; you will be safe here when
|_____| the walls close in on each other. On the left side, there is a cloud
flower, on the right, Comet Medal. Once you grab both, continue your ascent.
To do this, just jump out of the alcove, and create another cloud platform.
Upon reaching the top of the wall, grab the cloud flower on the right, and use
cloud platforms to grab the star up above. Be careful, because the wind here
will actually try to hinder you.

> THE SHADOW LINING < [SDWLN]

When a comet appears over Cloudy Court Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
The mechanic here is that platforms will zoom in from around the area when you
get close enough to where they should be. They will then zoom back out when
you get too far away. Additionally, Cosmic Clones will start to spawn. Start
off here to the right; the platforms should show you the correct path after
that. Once you get the five star chips, use the launch star to go to the next
area.

Use the zooming platforms to wall jump up to the top, then run right. Don't
stop, or the Cosmic Clones will catch up to you. Wall jump up to the sling
star and use it. Quickly continue right to another sling star. This will take
you to a crystal with a star. You will need to deal with more Cosmic Clones
while you bust the star out of the crystal.

> SILVER STARS IN THE PURPLE POND < [PPLPD]

Pick "Head in the Clouds". You will need 30 coins by the time you get to the
wall with the air current. Good places to get coins are the ? coin in the
first area, the ? coin on the drum platform, and the teleporter on top of said
wall. You can always just jump back down, so don't be afraid to go a little
farther than the Luma to get to 30 coins. Once you have 30, give them to the
Luma and use the launch star.

This is a fairly interesting area. The purple goop on the planet's surface is
toxic, and will spell instant doom for Mario if he touches it. You will get a
fresh cloud star when you land, and there is also one on the left side of the
area. You will need to get all five silver stars without falling into the muck
or losing your cloud mushroom (you will fall through the platforms if you don't
have cloud abilities). Head to the right first, using as few cloud platforms
as possible. Long jumping really helps in this area. Unfortunately, each
silver star that you collect spawns another Cosmic Clone for you to deal with.
They will follow your moves exactly, so you will need to make sure you don't
retrace your steps. If you were alive during that era, think like you're
playing Snake. Continue counter-clockwise. Once you have 4 silver stars, you
will likely be in a really bad position; use your cloud platforms (you will
need at least two) to go down and slightly left. Here is the cloud flower that
you saw at the beginning of the area. Head back to the right, then down to
find the path to the last silver star. The star will then appear where you
started this area.

> A GLIMMER OF BULB BERRY < [BLBRY]

Ahhh... classic Ghost House music. Start along the moving path in the opening
area, dodging the ghosts and grabbing the SBs from the ? boxes if you want.
Use the teleporter at the end if you feel so inclined, then use the launch
star.

The path in this next area will appear out of the left wall, and disappear into
the right wall. You will need to use the path while you can see it, or else
you will fall into oblivion. Dodge the ghosts as you traverse the path, and
hit the checkpoint flag at the end. The next area is similar, except the
platform moves from right to left. Grab the 1-up mushroom if you need it, and
continue onward. The next, green platform is very fast, and will have some
branching paths. Always take the paths that move forward or right. All of the
other paths lead to dead ends. The final, red platform will have stairs. This
platform will appear to end, but if you wait, another platform will come out of
the left wall. Jump to it, and continue forward.
 _____

| |___ Before you jump into the pipe, take the U-shaped path past the pipe to
|_____| score a Comet Medal. When you're ready, jump into the pipe, and grab
a Yoshi on the other side. Have Yoshi eat the Bulb Berry, which will cause
Yoshi to light up, and reveal nearby invisible paths. This effect is
temporary, though, and if it runs out, the platforms will disappear, causing
you to fall. The area that you can stand on will begin to shrink when you are
almost out of time, and the line will start to turn green. With the path lit
up, go to the right. Grab a fresh bulb berry from the other side, then look
down to find a key. This will open the door to the next area. Continue up the
stairs, jump across the gap, then head down, being sure to grab a fresh bulb
berry whenever you find one. Head through the door down here, and continue
right. There is an area here that looks like a dead end, but there is another
platform to the right, simply jump over the gap to make it there. Once you do
this, jump onto the bookshelves, and use the flower to swing yourself to the
star.

> SNEAKING DOWN THE CREEPY CORRIDOR < [SNKCD]

Start off the same way you did before, except that the path is a little bit
longer this time. When you reach the signpost, a bunch of Boos will appear
behind you. The sign is, of course, a lie; Boos will be afraid of you if you
are looking at them, causing them to be unable to move. Anyway, at the end of
this path is a new kind of platform: the shrinking platform. As soon as you
step on the green panels, they will begin to disappear. This effect is
permanent, and the platforms will never come back. Use the launch star at the
end here.

Keep the Boos in this area at bay by keeping an eye on them, and cross the
moving platforms to the end. Be careful of the skull in this area; it can
really sneak up to you due to the camera angle. At the end is a sling star.
It will take you to a moving platform with those platform-eating skulls on it.
Fortunately, the skulls all follow pre-determined paths, so they are not too
difficult to avoid. Again, if you reach a point where you need to wait, face
the Boos to prevent them from attacking you. Continue to the next moving
platform, but be careful, because the platform is not the same shape all the
way through. Stay near the middle of the platform to be safest. When the Boos
appear, run toward the camera, jumping onto the moving platforms. Grab the
star at the end before the platforms shrink.

> SPOOKY COSMIC CLONE CHASE < [SPKCC]

When a comet appears over Haunty Halls Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
This is just basically beating the second half of "Sneaking Down the Creepy
Corridor" with Cosmic Clones chasing you the entire way. Make sure to keep
moving, and don't double over your path. At the end, you will have to break
the star out of a crystal while dealing with the clones.

> BOWSER ON ICE < [BWICE]

You can use the fire flower here to melt snow sculptures. The Goomba statue on
the underside of the planet has a launch star inside.

The launch star will take you near a star bunny. He says that the snow
sculptures give him the creeps. The Goomba statues don't contain anything
important, but the Bowser statue, which takes three fireballs to destroy, has a
slide behind it. Take the slide to a new area. There is a snow structure in
this area. The bricks that are made of snow can be melted with fireballs.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ One of the snow bricks on the bottom level of the structure has a Comet
|_____| Medal behind it; just melt the brick to get the medal. Now, if you
look around the structure, you will see a pipe sticking out of the ground. You
will need to use the fire flower to find the top of the pipe. Once you've found
it, go inside. In this area, you will be using the snowballs to get from
platform to platform. If you roll a snowball into the lava, it will leave a
path that you can walk on. Additionally, if you roll a snowball around in the
snow, it will get bigger. Use the snowballs you have to go clockwise around
this area, and grab a fire flower at the end. Use this to melt the Bowser
statue in the middle. Three fireballs to the statue will net you a star.

> SORBETTI'S CHILLY RECEPTION < [SRBTI]

Interestingly, the fire flower at the beginning of this stage has been replaced
with a rock mushroom, but it can still break the Goomba statues, so ram the one
on the underside of the planet to reveal a launch star.

In this area, you will need to find some star chips. They are hidden inside
inside the Goomba statues and crystals in this area. The ones that are the
hardest to find are inside the Goomba statue at the top of the hill, and the
tree next to the star bunny who says that he DIDN'T hide star chips. You will
get a launch star for your troubles.

The next area is very snowy, and the visibility is terrible. Go slowly so that
you don't unexpectedly run into something, or, for that matter, run into
nothing. If, from your starting direction, you turn about 45 degrees right,
then walk in a straight line, you should find a slope with a star bunny next to
it. Run down to find a Luma shop. If you have enough SBs, grab a mushroom,
then use the launch star.

Use the sling star on this planet to... holy cow, that thing WAS Sorbetti? The
main idea here it to spin his red nose. Sometimes, he will crash into stuff,
revealing items, but he will mainly focus on hitting you. Hit him twice, and
he will start to roll really quickly, making him very hard to hit. If you
manage to hit him one more time, he will leave you a star.

> THE CHIMP'S SKATING CHALLENGE < [SKTCH]

Pick "Bowser on Ice". Instead of melting the first Bowser statue, melt the
tree directly on the left of the Bowser statue. Go down the pipe that was
hiding there, and The Chimp will challenge you to a skating game. This game is
pretty simple. You need to get 500 points in 60 seconds. You get points by
skating into the blob-like enemies. Green ones are worth 10, and gold ones are
worth 50. If you skate into a spiky purple one, you will get knocked down,
costing you valuable time. If you manage to clear all the positive blobs in a
set, the next set will appear immediately. If you get at least 500 points, The
Chimp will give you a star.

> SILVER CHOMP GRUDGE MATCH < [SLVCH]

Let's get the ball rolling! During this entire level, you will be rolling on a
Star Ball. Use the first area to get used to the controls, then, when you're
ready, jump into the yellow hole to shoot yourself to the next area.

You will need to find a key on the green section of this planet to unlock the
cage on the red part. Jump into the hole when you have unlocked it.

In the next area, platforms will zoom in from around the area when you get
close enough. Maneuver the ball toward the yellow, blue, and green platform,
then jump on. When you jump on, it will start to move upward. Be careful of
the Goombas here; they can't directly hurt you, but running over them can
really mess up the ball, potentially causing it to fall off. At the top, turn
all of the blue switches yellow, then cross the bridge, and fall into the hole.

 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ To grab this Comet Medal, you will need to be quick, since the saws
|_____| will cut away this area of the platform. Roll the ball onto that part
of the platform, being careful not to hit the saws. Once you get the medal,
get off of that platform quickly, so that you don't fall down with it.
Continue forward, keeping in mind that the saws will cut off pieces of the
platform if you are too slow. Once you reach the ramp, try to jump up it as
much as you can; this is a lot faster than rolling all the way up. Cross the
bridge, and drop onto the platform with the Silver Chomp. You will need to
knock it off the platform with the ball. Once you have done so, cross the
bridge, and roll the ball into the pink hole. The star will pop out of the
ball, and move to the top of the pole. Just climb up the pole to grab it.

> MASTERPIECE SPEED RUN < [MSPSR]

When a comet appears over Rolling Masterpiece Galaxy, return for a comet
challenge. You will have two minutes to complete the grudge match. Be
careful, though, because some of the things about the level are slightly
different. For example, on the multi-colored planet, the key is in the blue
section instead of the green section this time around. Also, after the
elevator, you will go to a green platform with holes in it instead of the
wooden one with saws. Watch out for the Bob-ombs here, they will really mess
you up if you let one explode. Once the star has been released from the ball,
the timer will stop.

> STEP TO THE BEEP <

This is literally what you will be doing in this stage. The blocks in this
galaxy will switch back and forth between existing and not existing to the beat
of the background music. A beeping noise will let you know that they are about
to switch; when you hear the beep, start to switch to an opposite-colored
block. Interestingly, the enemies will also materialize with the blocks, so
depending on the color of the blocks, you will have to deal with different
enemies. I'm not sure there's a whole lot I can say to help you with this
level, just make sure you keep in mind that you will need to switch colors from
time to time.
 _____

| |___ The Comet Medal is right along the path you have to take; just be sure
|_____| to grab it when the yellow blocks are solid. Once you have it, keep
moving to the right. Once you reach the checkpoint, you will need to collect
five silver stars on the pyramid of these yellow and green blocks. Make sure
to keep time to the background music. There is one in the middle, and two on
either side. Once you have all five, the star will appear on the top, and the
platforms will stop changing.

> SILVER STARS IN DOUBLE TIME <

Double time? The platforms will actually switch FOUR TIMES as often as before,
so keep on your toes. The layout of the stage remains unchanged, but there are
a few key differences to note. First, the enemies have all been removed, so
you don't need to worry about them. Second, there is a Yoshi in the second
crystal you will find along the path. A flutter jump will keep you airborne
long enough to land on the same color as you jumped off. Note that at the end,
one of the silver stars is in the back-left corner of the pyramid.

> BOWSER JR.'S MIGHTY MEGAHAMMER < [MGHMR]

Right at the beginning is a pair of disappearing platforms; stay off of them
when they flash blue. Remember not to mess with the purple enemies when they
turn yellow. Continue to the right and free Yoshi from the egg. You will need
to eat a Bullet Bill, then spit it at the glass casing in the background before
the Bill explodes in your mouth. You can also eat the purple enemies, but,
again, only while they're purple. After some more disappearing platforms and
purple enemies, spin the switch to make the yellow platform move. Be sure to
jump on before it gets away. The cannons in the background will shoot homing
Bullet Bills at you. You can eat them, and spit them back out at the cannons
to destroy them, the glass cases to get SBs, or the mines to get coins. Once
you reach the end, hit the switch to set the next yellow platform in motion.
This one, though, will move forward. Eat another Bill, and shoot it at the
glass casing before the platform gets there. Then use the sling star before
you get sucked into the black hole. In this next area, you can use the Bullet
Bills to defeat the Hammer Bro, as well as break the Bowser Jr. statue for a
1-up mushroom. Use the flowers to swing to the other side of the platform,
then use a Bill to break the glass casing. Hit the switch, and jump on the
yellow platform. Airships will come out of a wormholes after the platform
starts moving. Jump onto the deck, then reunite yourself with the platform
before it gets too far ahead. Grab the life mushroom along the way.
 _____

| |___ On the deck of the second airship (the one with the Hammer Bro), on the
|_____| left side, is the Comet Medal. Make sure that your platform doesn't
get too far ahead of you while you grab it. Break the glass with a Bullet Bill
and buy something from the Luma shop, then use the launch star.

Bowser Jr. will insert his space pod thing into a giant, mallet-wielding robot.
In this fight, you will want to eat the Bullet Bills he shoots at you, and then
return fire at the robot's blue... um... yeah.... If you give him the chance
to use the hammers, just jump over the shockwaves they send out. Also, if you
let a Bill hit one of the yellow and black striped platforms, it will fall out
permanently, so try not to let that happen. Once you have hit the two on the
front twice each, find a sling star. Use it to go around to the robot's back.
He will fire a volley of Bills at you, and send out a shockwave. Eat one of
the Bills and fire it at the blue weak point. Repeat this process one more
time. Now, Bowser Jr. will get angry. Now, you need to eat a Bullet Bill, and
keep it until the robot finishes his hammer attack. Fire the Bill at Bowser
Jr. Do this twice to put Megahammer out of commission for good. Find the
sling star one more time, and use it to grab the Grand Star. Now you can
explore World 4!

> MEGAHAMMER'S DAREDEVIL BASH < [MHDDB]

When a comet appears over Bowser Jr.'s Fearsome Fleet, return for a comet
challenge. This time around, you will have to defeat Megahammer without taking
damage. The boss fight is the same, so the strategy is the same, you just need
to be more careful. Make good use of Yoshi's flutter jump on the shockwaves,
and keep an eye on any Bullet Bills that might be floating around; you never
know when they're going to lock onto you. Use the sling star to grab the star
when you are done.

Woah, everything's so huge! And the music is the Super Mario Bros overworld
theme! Start off by heading toward the giant Goomba. You can easily defeat it
by spinning it, then kicking it.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ On the right side of this platform is a gap; long jump across it for an
|_____| easy Comet Medal. Once you have it, head toward the gigantic coin.
Use the coin and the ? block as wall jump surfaces to get on top of the block.
Jump across the pipes to the left, being careful of the piranha plant. Next up
are some giant Thwomps. You can dodge them by watching where their shadows
are; stand in the light when the Thwomps are about to pound the ground. Wall
jump off the right-most Thwomp to get into the launch star.

You'll land on a planet with giant Koopas. Follow them around in a circle, and
you will find a spin drill. Drill through the planet into one of the Koopas to
defeat it. Once you do this to all three, a launch star will appear. Use it.

Cross the giant star chips, spinning the Paragoomba on the way. Cross the
giant pipes, and continue right. These platforms disappear after they flash
blue. Make sure that you aren't on a flashing platform in the middle column,
since there won't be anything below it. Use the launch star at the end. The
launch star will send you into another launch star; use this one too.

On this cylindrical planet, you will need to follow the paths of the Wigglers
to find a route toward the star. Keep heading foward whenever possible, and
if there is no path, simply rotate around the planet like the Wigglers. The
red Wigglers, though, are too fast, so just long jump to the pole when you
reach that ring. The star is at the top of the pole.

> BIG WIGGLERS SPEED RUN <

When a comet appears over Supermassive Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
You will get 2 minutes and 30 seconds to complete this stage. The stage isn't
actually any different, so just use your memory, and move quickly. Remember to
long jump straight to the pole at the end of the stage. If you are desperately
running out of time, you can long jump from ring to ring, too, but this is
riskier, since the jumps are longer, and there are Wigglers to deal with.

> IN FULL BLOOM < [FLBLM]

Pick "Huge Trouble with Big Wigglers". In the area with the gigantic star
chips, the launch star will send you to a small planet with another launch
star. Do not use this launch star. Instead, run around on the surface of the
planet. You will notice that flowers will grow wherever you walk. If you
cover the entire surface of the planet with flowers, a vine will grow out of
it. Spin up the vine for a hidden star.

This galaxy is very interesting. You will notice that the background has
arrows on it. These arrows represent the current direction of gravity for
where you are. Start by going to the left. Ground pound the circular grate on
the ground, and it will flip. The arrows in the background will also change
direction, and you will be standing on the ceiling. Note that if you see one
of the spiky enemies cross a grate, and you flip it from the other side, you
will defeat it. Continue flipping counter-clockwise through this area.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ In the top section of the building (gravity pointing downward) there is
|_____| one corner with three grates in it. You should notice that in the
corner, directly below you, there is a Comet Medal. Flip through the middle
grate to collect it. Once you are done, flip back to the top, then flip
though the right-most grate. Fall up the hole, and flip through the grate at
the top to find a launch star. Use it to reach the next area.

This building is infested with Chomps. Always make sure that it is safe before
proceeding. Interestingly, you will be able to see the Chomps' shadows from
the bottom of the building, so you can use this to judge the timing of your
flips. Grab the life mushroom if you can, then continue through the grate on
the right. Immediately run right, because a Chomp will spawn right next to
you. Two of them will crash into each other; wait for this to happen before
continuing right. Use the launch star at the far right.

In the next area, flip through the far grate, then climb the stairs to reach a
moving platform with a grate on it. Flip to the top of the first grate, then
jump onto the second one. Flip through to the bottom of the third, to avoid
the spike traps, then time your flip on the fourth, such that you don't hit
any of the spikes. Once you are done with that, flip through the grate at the
end. Flip back up, then use the launch star on the top of the platform. Grab
something from the Luma shop, then continue on to the boss.

Flip the grate directly underneath it to wake it up. You will need to do this
three more times, except while it is awake. Note that it can follow you to the
other side of the planet if you flip through it. Watch out for the fireballs
that it spits out; if they fall into one of the grates, it will be unusable for
a short period of time. Keep an eye on its shadow to know where it is at all
times, then flip the grate that it is standing on. After you hit it twice, it
will get angry, and drastically increase the number of fireballs that it spits
out. Get in one more hit to earn you star.

> FLIPSVILLE'S NEW DIGS < [NWDGS]

Most of the grates in the galaxy have been replaced with dig spots, so grab the
spin drill and get to it. Once again, start of by going counter-clockwise
around the building. There are plenty of spin drills around in case you lose
yours. Head back up through the hole in the bottom of the building. You will
see the Toad Brigade captain below saying "Hey!" Jump down to him. Dig here
for a 1-up mushroom, then use the launch star.

In this next area, you will need to dig through the pillars on either side of
the planet to get to the pipe at the top. Start by grabbing the spin drill
behind the pillar then dig through the planet anywhere. Drill, then, through
the near-left side of the pillar, then the near-right side, then the far-left
side. Jump into the pipe when you are done. In the next area, the gravity
will constantly change to the beat of the music. Every area has its own
pattern, so I will guide you through the level. Start by grabbing the drill.
Drill right, and grab the silver star. Continue by drilling right, then up,
then up, right, left, left, down. You should now have all five silver stars.
Simply drill to the right to claim your star.

> PURPLE COIN SPIN SPEED RUN < [PCSPN]

When a comet appears over Flipsville Galaxy, return for a comet challenge. You
have 2 and a half minutes to grab all of the purple coins in the last section
of "Flipsville's New Digs". You can follow the same path as last time, as that
path goes to every area. Use the changing gravity to help you grab the coins.
Also, watch out for the Fuzzies. Once you have all 100, the star will appear
in the middle.

> SURF, SAND, AND SILVER STARS < [SRFSD]

This galaxy is very reminiscent of Beach Bowl Galaxy from the first Super Mario
Galaxy. At the very beginning, swim to the other side of the planet and use
the underwater launch star.

There are Piantas in this game? He will mention something about silver stars
on the islands. Grab the Yoshi to the left, and keep moving forward. The
Crabbers here can be used as ammo, just like Spinies can. There is one silver
star at the top of the hill at the beginning; bring a Spiny or a Crabber to
break the glass casing. Look around for a giant Pianta statue. Head toward
it, and use the flowers to swing yourself to the silver star at the top. If
you face the same way as the Pianta statue, the next silver star is on your
right. You will see a glass case with a blimp fruit in it. Grab a Crabber,
and break the case. Use the blimp fruit to get on top of the pillar for your
third silver star. Look around until you see a deep area with a large yellow
and white structure coming out of it. Head toward the left side of it.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ There is a small crater between the pipe and the palm tree to the left
|_____| of the structure. You will need to get off Yoshi. Dive into the
crater, and you should see the Comet Medal between two eels. Grab it with good
timing, then go back out the way you came in. Grab another Yoshi on the island
with the palm tree, then swim toward the structure. There is a silver star in
front of it. In this same area, there is a round object in the water. Jump on
it, and it will turn toward your weight. Turn it so that the bouncy pink part
is at the top, then jump onto it. Bounce up to get the last silver star. The
star will appear behind the Pianta statue.

> CLIMBING THE CLOUDY TOWER < [CDTWR]

Start off again by using the underwater launch star.

It seems that the Piantas are holding a "Strongest Pianta" contest. What this
means for you is that if you move near any Pianta that is flailing his arms,
he will throw you a pretty good distance, allowing you to get secret items or
access high areas. You can experiment with this a bit if you'd like. When
you're done, head toward the yellow and white structure. Dive all the way
underwater, remembering to grab a coin or bubble if you need some air. There
is an entrance to the structure down here; go inside. Ground pound the switch
to make a cloud flower appear. Go and grab it. You will now need to use one
of the nearby leaf rafts to get to the tower, since you can't touch water. The
leaf rafts are fairly simple to control: They will move in the direction of
Mario's weight. Once you are used the raft, head to the tower. Jump onto one
of the clouds circling the tower. Now, simply use your cloud platforms to get
to the top. Backflips will be useful in conserving cloud platforms. At the
top is a fresh cloud flower. Use it to get to the top of the tree. Once you
are on top, grab the star.

> PURPLE COIN BEACH DASH < [PCBCH]

When a comet appears over Starshine Beach Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
For this one, you will have 35 seconds to get 100 purple coins. You will need
to use the dash pepper here to complete this task quickly enough. Simply
follow the trail of purple coins while dashing.  Don't worry if you miss some;
there are 140 total coins, and turning around will cost you time. In case you
are still short by the end of the course, there are some dash peppers at the
end. Grab one and turn around to grab some nearby coins. By this point,
though, you will only have a few seconds remaining. The timer will stop once
you have collected 100. The star will appear in the middle.

> WHERE THE CHOMPS ARE MADE OF GOLD < [GOLDC]

This galaxy is legitimately a Chomp factory. At the beginning head down the
ramp, then toward the blue platforms near the pink robot. These platforms will
sink if you stand of them for too long.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Cross the blue platforms, and look up. There is a Comet Medal above
|_____| the row of Chomps that is appearing. If you jump in between the
Chomps, you can backflip over a Chomp, picking up the medal. Once you have it,
follow the Chomps left. Spin the switch over here, and the Chomps will roll
down the rail on the left. If you go down the ramp, you will notice that they
will start smashing into one of those blue platforms. Hang out on the edge of
the platform to make it sink, and the Chomps will start rolling over it, and
into the hole. Once one Chomp makes it in the hole, a launch star will appear.

In the next area, you will need to get to the other side of the bridge. The
catch is that there are Chomps rolling down the bridge. Therefore, you will
need to use the auxiliary platforms on the left and right so that you aren't on
the bridge when the Chomps are. Continue forward when you can, and use the
launch star when you make it to the end.

The goal is the next area is, once again, to get at least one Chomp into the
hole. You will need to use the flip-swap platforms to get them there; simply
spin to switch the platforms from red to blue or blue to red. Go all the way
to the left, and hit the switch. Chomps will start to appear. Switch the
platforms to blue, then make your way to the green see-saw. Step on the left
side, so that the Chomps can get onto the platform. Switch the platforms to
red, then jump off of the see-saw when a Chomp rolls by. Switch the platforms
to blue, and watch the Chomp roll into the hole. You will get a launch star
for your troubles.

The switches in the next area will temporarily raise platforms. You will need
to time the use of these switches to get a gold Chomp into the hole. Head to
the area where the Chomps are spawning, and stand on the blue and green
platform to lower it. As soon as the Chomp rolls onto it, head to the platform
just below it. Once the Chomp has rolled over this one, go to the switch.
Ground pound the switch just as the Chomp rolls onto the blue part of the
platform. Pressing the switch will raise the platform, and the Chomp will roll
into the hole, revealing a star.

> SPRING INTO THE CHOMPWORKS < [SPRNG]

Why they would bring back the spring mushroom and not the ice flower is beyond
me, but start off by grabbing the spring mushroom at the bottom of the ramp.
You can spring very high by pressing the A button when you hit the ground.
Head up the ramp on the left, and use the launch star at the top.

In the next area, use the spring mushroom to jump over the Chomps, and get to
the other side of the bridge. Much easier said than done. At the end of the
bridge, jump onto the block from which the Chomps are spawning. Do the same
thing again on the smaller bridge up here to reach a launch star.

It will take you to an area where you have to do some platforming with the
spring mushroom. Fun, fun. Keep your cool, and don't be afraid to take a
little time to make your jumps. Once you get to the top, grab your star.

> COSMIC CLONES IN THE CHOMPWORKS < [CCHMP]

When a comet appears over Chompworks Galaxy, return for a comet challenge. To
get this star, you will need to complete the last area of "Where the Chomps Are
Made of Gold" with Cosmic Clones following you the entire time. This is mostly
an issue when trying to lower the platforms for the Chomp to cross. Remember
that you need to keep moving, but you don't necessarily need to move quickly.
Since the clones follow your every move, if you walk slowly, so will they. You
will probably have to be directly in the Chomp's path at certain points of this
stage; just remember to move out of the way when the Chomp comes through. As
soon as you get the Chomp into the hole, the Cosmic Clones will be defeated.

This galaxy makes me hungry. Grab the Yoshi right at the beginning, and head
straight along the path. Note that Yoshi can eat the flying enemies. Grab the
bulb berry, and continue forward along the invisible path that appears. After
hitting the checkpoint flag, refresh your bulb berry, and head along the new
path, watching out for the turns.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Just before the last turn, into the solid platform, you might notice
|_____| that there are additional platforms off to the left. If you need to,
you can refresh your bulb berry on the solid platform. Either way, jump along
the platforms, and you will reach a Comet Medal. Quickly jump back, and make
your way to the solid platform. Grab the bulb berry here, and continue along
the invisible path to the left. Jump across the moving platforms, then the
shrinking platforms. On the other side, refresh your bulb berry, and continue
forward along the invisible platform. On the next solid platform, swing
yourself up using the flowers to get another bulb berry. By this point, you
should pretty much understand the drill. Continue along until you reach
another checkpoint flag. Grab the nearby bulb berry, hit the blue switch and
continue counter-clockwise along the invisible path. After hitting the second
switch, jump across the shrinking platforms to the third switch. From here,
grab another bulb berry, and continue counter-clockwise along the invisible
platforms. You will not need to board the moving platforms; just look left to
find some stationary platforms. Once you hit the fourth switch, a launch star
will appear in the middle. Refresh your bulb berry, and head toward it.

In the next area there will be a nice cake for y.... Hey! Where'd it go?
Grab the bulb berry, and climb to the top of the cake for a star.

> BULB BERRY'S PURPLE COIN GLOW < [PCGLW]

When a comet appears over Sweet Mystery Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
100 purple coins are scattered around Sweet Mystery Galaxy, and you will need
to collect them. In my opinion, this is actually easier than the "original"
version of this star, because the coins tell you exactly where the invisible
platforms are! Don't be afraid to revisit a bulb berry multiple times; make
sure that you never run out of time while on an invisible platform. The stage
will end before the area with the switches.

Start off by running into the alcove straight ahead, and grabbing the bee
mushroom. Fly up to the right, and jump onto the hexagonal honeycombs. Bee
Mario will stick to it, and can move around freely between them. Climb up to
the top, then fly up to the swing. Jump off the swing to the right. In the
next area, try not to land in the lake, because you will lose your bee powers.
Hug the wall here, and continue to the right. After the honeycomb wall will
be a fountain. Be sure not to get hit by the water coming out of it. Spin up
the large flower to the right to have it launch you, then swing to the left.
Climb up the honeycomb wall, and continue right. Fly over the bubbles here.
Not only will you lose your bee mushroom, but they will send you to the bottom
of the ramp. At the end of the ramp fly up to another ramp, then up once again
to reach the next area. Spin the flower on the cloud here to get "floaty
fluff". Grab onto it, then use the control stick to fly to the next platform.
If you lost your bee mushroom, there is another one just ahead. Above the
large, rotating flower platform nearby, there is a life mushroom. Grab it,
then head toward the bee on a green platform. Continue in that direction onto
a lilypad. Above you is a flower platform with a silver star on it. Fly up
there to get it. Head back toward the bee, and you will see a silver star
above the fountains in this area. Fly to get it, but watch out for the
fountains. Grab it and continue flying right to another flower. Let it launch
you to the next platform.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ If you run toward the sleeping bee back around the right side of this
|_____| platform, the camera will rotate, allowing you to see a silver star
down below, and a Comet Medal up above. Grab them both by flying (or wall
jumping if you have lost your bee suit), then continue back around to the left.
Grab the silver star in midair, watching out for the bubble launchers. Keep
going left, to another lake. If you happen to be without a bee mushroom, there
is another one here for you. Grab it, then jump onto the large flower
platform. Fly off of it, up to the right, and jump onto the swing up there.
Swing to the left, and land on the platform. Fly over to the queen bee, and
jump onto her back. You can climb around on her like you can a honeycomb wall.
The last silver star is high up on her back. As soon as you get it, the star
will appear in the middle of this area.

> THE CHIMP'S SCORE CHALLENGE < [SCRCH]

Once you unlock the Mailtoad, The Chimp will send you a letter, challenging you
to a minigame in Fluffy Bluff Galaxy. You MUST get that letter before you
attempt this star. This challenge is basically the same as the stomp
challenge, just in a different setting. You have 2 minutes to get 10,000
points. The two best places to rack up points are at the beginning, behind the
sling star, and at the very top. There are several groups of closely-packed
enemies at the top, as well as a ? coin (worth 1,000 points) that spawns 8
coins (worth an additional 800 points). Once the timer runs out, if you have
at least 10,000 points, you will get a star; if you don't, well, better luck
next time.

> BREAKING INTO BOWSER'S CASTLE < [BCSTL]

This galaxy will feel like Bowser's castles of old. Start by heading straight
along the path, dodging the fire rods. When you come to a small post with
four large fire rods coming out of it, follow them around to grab a life
mushroom. Once you have it, continue over the moving platform, then around to
the right. The wooden platform with the ? above it will sink while you are
standing on it, so don't hang out there for too long. Hit the checkpoint flag
on the right.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Just right of the checkpoint is a block. The Comet Medal is right
|_____| above it. Don't worry if you break the block; a backflip followed by a
well-timed spin will still get you high enough to grab it. Once you have it,
continue to the right. The gravity will always be toward the outside of this
area, so the path will wind up, then back to the left. Once the path winds to
the right again, jump into the water above you. Keep swimming to the right.
At the end of this area, you will be back in three dimensions. Go down,
watching out for the Whomp here. Continue along this path as it turns to the
left, then winds downward. After the second Goomba here, you will need to
jump downward, so that the gravity will pull you in toward the floor. Follow
the fire rods around clockwise, and jump at the trail of coins. Go around this
platform clockwise, jumping over the fire rods when necessary. At the bottom
of this platform is a launch star.

In this area, there is a life mushroom in the right-most crystal. Grab it,
then break the door with the meteors here.

Woah, Bowser got big again. The strategy in this fight is similar, except that
Bowser has added shockwaves to his punches and meteorites, so you will need to
jump over them during the fight. Also, there will only be two meteorites at a
time. As a quick refresher, when Bowser punches the planet, ground pound the
meteorites toward him to score a hit. After two hits, Bowser will add flame
breath to his repertoire again. This time, though, the flames will stay on
the planet for a little while, so make sure you don't trap yourself. Two more
hits will put him out of commission. He really needs to get over this whole
"master plan" thing. After getting the Grand Star, you will be able to go to
World 5!

> GRAVITY STAR SPEED RUN < [GRVSR]

When a comet appears over Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet, return for a comet
challenge. This one is another Bowser speed run; you will once again need to
collect clocks mid-run to keep your timer going. I will point out hard-to-find
clocks for you. Right at the beginning, there is a clock on the wooden
platform on the left, a bit forward of the starting position. The life
mushroom is in the same place it was the first time, around the fire rods.
Once you read the two-dimensional section, there is a clock above the first
block, where the comet medal was the first time. Back in the 3-D section,
there is another clock on the left side of the section with the Whomps.
When you reach the platform with fire rods inside of it, go counter-clockwise;
there is a clock here and it's shorter. On the next platform, go all the way
clockwise. The star is at the end of this platform. You will need to do a
wall jump to reach it. If you did get the life mushroom at the beginning, you
will be able to go through some traps to save time. In my opinion, it's
actually better to spend the time to get the life mushroom.

| |___ If you continue to the right, along the bottom of the area, you will
|_____| eventually reach a Comet Medal. Do a long jump from the moving
platform to get it without taking damage. Use the launch star immediately to
your right.

Find the launch star in this area. There is a Bob-omb device nearby. Every
once in a while, a Bob-omb will come out of the device. The goal in this area
is to get a Bob-omb to follow you along the path on the inside of the planet
and break the glass case around the life mushroom. If a Bob-omb is tracking
you, it will start to flash red. That's your cue to "lead" it along the path.
Make sure that you don't hit the electric fences in the process of doing this.
If the Bob-omb falls off of the path, you will have to go back and get a new
one. Once you have accomplished this, jump into the hole, grab the life
mushroom, and make your way to the launch star, avoiding the Bob-omb.

On this planet are some Topmen; make sure that they don't knock you off the
platform or into a hole. Continue forward, and spin a Bob-omb after it spawns.
You will now be able to pick it up by touching it. Do, so, then throw it, by
spinning, at the glass casing around the 1-up. After the Bob-omb explodes,
continue forward and to the left. Use the pull stars here to avoid the
electric traps, and make your way to the left. Keep dodging the electricity,
and grab the star by timing your use of the pull stars around it.

> TO THE TOP OF TOPMAN'S TOWER < [TOPMN]

Pull yourself to the planet with the electrical traps, then hit the switch here
to slow them down. Run between them, then use the pull stars to get to the
launch star.

Watch out for the bubbles while making your way to the switch. Hit it to slow
down the moving platforms. Spin the switch in the back-right corner to open a
nearby gate, then head toward the next switch. There is another switch in the
near-right corner. Spin it, then go through the gate. Jump off of the purple
enemy at the far side of this area, and it will spring you up to a sling star.
Use the time-slow switch up here to make it past the Thwomps, then get the
green top enemy to follow you to where there is a platform above you. Jump on
it, and it will spring you up there. Use the time-slow switches up here to
slow down the moving platforms. Jump on the platforms to make your way up to
the top. Once you are there, spin the top enemies into the electric fences,
and a green top will appear. Spring off of it to get the star.

> C'MERE, TOPMAN < [CMETP]

Once you unlock the Mailtoad, Gearmo will send you a letter, asking for help in
Space Storm Galaxy. You MUST get that letter before you attempt this star.
Pick "Follow Me, Bob-omb". On the planet with the Topmen, as soon as you blow
up the glass casing with the 1-up inside, head to the right. Gearmo will tell
you to bring him a red Topman. Head back toward the beginning of this area,
and get one of the red guys to follow you. You will need to make it back while
dodging (or defeating) the small yellow Topmen, dodging the Bob-ombs, and
dodging the red Topman (and NOT defeating him). Once you get it in between the
posts, you will get a star.

> SQUIZZARD'S SANDY SINKHOLE < [SQZRD]

Jumping into the quicksand at the beginning of this level will carry you toward
the next platform. Do this a couple more times, dodging fireballs and spiky
fruit. When you reach the end, use the launch star.

The quicksand in the next area will slow your movements, so don't get pushed
off of the platform by the metal blocks. When you are through this area,
continue along the path, watching out for the bombs that the chicken enemy
drops. You can tell what direction the quicksand will push you by looking at
the direction in which it is moving.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ This Comet Medal is right along the required path, so grab it and keep
|_____| moving to the right. Grab the fire flower here, and use it to defeat
the flower enemies here. If you have some time left on the fire flower, you
can light the two torches in this area for a 1-up mushroom. Either way,
continue between the metal blocks, being sure not to get squashed. Jump on top
of the second set of blocks, then jump onto the upper part of the path. Jump
onto the metal block up here, then onto the top of the building. Use the
launch star up here.

This will take you to a slide. Your job here will be to avoid the rolling
happy-face stone things. The controls are a little loose, so get used to the
slide before the stones start rolling. Once you reach the bottom, look to the
left for a Luma shop, then use the launch star to go to the boss.

Move toward the sinkhole a bit, and Squizzard will pop out. Grab one of the
floating fire flowers while dodging the rocks that the throws. After throwing
three rocks, Squizzard will open his mouth. Throw a fireball right in there to
stun him. Follow up with a few more fireballs to score a hit. Now he will
throw spiky balls, which will additionally hurt you if you run into them. As a
side note, if Squizzard throws gold projectiles, hitting them with a fireball
will cause a coin to appear. You can do this when you get injured to heal
yourself. After one more hit, he will spawn two cannons. You will have to hit
these with fireballs, then he will throw some bombs at you. These will blow up
in a huge explosion when they hit the ground. One more hit will finish him off
for good.

> SAILING THE SANDY SEAS < [SAILN]

This time around, you will need to use the moving platforms to cross the
quicksand. If you fall in, you will get pushed backward. Additionally, in the
first area, there is a life mushroom above the second set of moving platforms.
Once you reach the other side, jump into the pipe. This area has some very
strange gravity effects. Watch the arrows on the walls to see which way
gravity is currently pointing. Run up along the wall on the left, then back
down around to the right. You will fall down to the right. Run up the wall,
and you will land on a rotating square. Wait until gravity is pointing left,
then run down off the square. You will fall near a red pipe; jump in to go to
the next area. Once again, use the moving platforms to get to the other side.
Use the launch star once you are done.

If you fall into the quicksand in this next area, you will suffer instant
death, so don't let that happen. Jump on the sandy platform, and it will start
to move forward. Watch out for the cacti and Magikoopas; note that if anything
hits the platform, pieces of it will temporarily disappear. With the cacti,
this effect isunavoidable, but defeating the Magikoopas can alleviate this.
Follow the trail of coins; this is the safest route, and will usually tell you
when the platform is going to reappear. Near the end is a silver Chomp. Guide
it toward the left side of the platform, then move out of the way to the right.
The right side of the platform will remain intact. The Chomp will make another
pass, so run around on the platform to avoid him. Once you reach the end, jump
off and grab the star.

> SQUIZZARD'S DAREDEVIL RUN < [SQDDR]

When a comet appears over Slipsand Galaxy, return for a comet challenge. This
daredevil run will have you squaring off agains Squizzard with only one health.
The best advice I can give you on this one is to keep moving, especially on the
third hit. The bombs are very hard to dodge; a long jump is your best bet. On
the third hit, Squizzard will close his mouth very quickly. You can throw
fireballs in midair, just make sure you land on an actual platform. If you
land in the quicksand, you will get pulled toward Squizzard; if you touch him,
you will lose a life. Also, pick up fire flowers often. If you run out of
time on your fire flower, you will generally leave yourself open to damage.

> PRINCE PIKANTE'S PEPPERY MOOD < [PKNTE]

For those of you who don't get it, "picante" means "spicy" in Spanish. It's
also a reference to King Kaliente from the first Super Mario Galaxy. Start
this level off by jumping onto the grated platforms. Be careful, because these
will sink into the lava while you stand on them. Jump onto the yellow platform
on the other side. If you can pull it off, grab the cloud flower on the right,
then platform over to the life mushroom on the left. Watch out for the
shockwaves that the yellow enemies shoot. When the platform stops moving, grab
the cloud flower on the left, then use cloud platforms to get to the switch in
the distance. Hit it, and all the lava will turn into ice. If you missed it,
you can go back and get the life mushroom, then continue forward. Use the
launch star at the end of this area, watching out for the shockwaves.

In the next area, you will have to cross a set of moving platforms. Make sure
that you don't go too far to either side, because there is lava at either end
of the track. If you have any cloud platforms left, you can use those, as
well. Once you get to the end, spin a coconut at the treasure chest to get a
1-up mushroom, then continue forward.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Just before the launch star in this area, the Comet Medal is floating
|_____| above the moving platforms. If you can't wait for the platform to show
up, just long jump toward the launch star, since this platform doesn't have any
gaps, and just jump back when there's an opening. Once you have the medal, use
the launch star.

This will send you to an ice section. Meteors are falling from the sky; when
they land, they will make a puddle of lava on the ground. Make sure that you
don't step in these, and continue forward. If you have lost yours (or never
got it in the first place), there is a life mushroom in the crystal along this
path. Spin it in midair, so that you don't skate off the edge in an attempt to
get it. Get to the end, and a bunch of enemies in barrels will start spitting
fireballs and coconuts at you. Don't touch the fireballs, but spin the
coconuts. The coconuts will fly back at the enemies and defeat them. Once all
five of them have been defeated, a path will open up. This area will have the
opposite effect of the previous; the ground is covered in lava, and comets are
falling from the sky. When the comets hit the ground, they will make ice
platforms that you can traverse. Continue forward when you can, and use the
launch star at the end of the path. This will take you to a Starshroom. Buy a
mushroom from the shop, and use the launch star. Boss time!

That thing's cool! I want one! The coconut mechanic will be used in this boss
battle as well. Every once in a while, Prince Pekante will fire some fireballs
at you out of his car and his mouth. You will want to dodge these. Every
other time, though, he will fire a coconut, which you will obviously want to
spin. On the second hit, he will fire all of the fireballs and coconuts into
the air. Find a falling coconut and spin it. On the third hit, he will fire
more fireballs at once. Once you deal the third and final hit, he will drop a
star.

> OCTO-ARMY ICY RAINBOW ROMP < [ICRMP]

When a comet appears over Shiverburn Galaxy, return for a comet challenge. You
have 50 seconds to take out 30 Octoombas on an icy platform. You have a
rainbow star with which to do it, though. There are three rainbow stars total,
one in the middle, and one on either side of the platform. This is one of the
easier romps, because the enemies tend to bunch up, and you're very fast while
skating with the rainbow star. Make sure that you don't run out of time on the
rainbow star, and this shouldn't be too much trouble. Once you have defeated
all 30, the star will appear in the middle.

> THE CHIMP'S ULTIMATE SKATING CHALLENGE < [ULTCH]

At the end of the first area is a pipe. Jump inside to play the skating
challenge again. This time, you will need 600 points. If you are unfamiliar
with the skating challenge, look for "The Chimp's Skating Challenge" in Freezy
Flake Galaxy.

> SILVER STARS POP-UP < [POPUP]

You only see a galaxy like this once in a blue moon. Hahaha...ahem. Now then,
you will start off in a dark maze. Unfortunately, the maze is very hard to
describe, since it's dark, and it's on a spherical surface, so navigate the
maze, watching out for Boos. When you find a launch star use it.

You will land in a poison swamp. Jump on the purple platform to make a moving
path appear. Follow it to the next platform, watching out for ghosts along
the way. Jump onto the next moving path. When you reach a downward line of
SBs, jump down through it, and you will land on another moving path. Follow
this one to a ramp. Watch out, though, because the ground will fold up onto
the ramp, and the moving path will come out the other side. Wait for this to
happen, then regroup with the path. Follow the path, watching out for the
ghosts, to another ramp.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ The path will now come in contact with a Comet Medal. Quickly follow
|_____| the path to the side to get it. Use the launch star once you've
grabbed it.

It will take you to a moon that acts as a see-saw. Collect all five star chips
without tipping the moon over, and a launch star will appear.

The launch star will take you to a new area. There are two readily obtainable
silver stars; one is in the middle, and one is in the near-right corner, above
a switch. Once you have them both, pound the switch. The platform will pop
up, revealing a bunch of walls. You can use these to wall jump up, and grab
the last three silver stars. Once you have them all, the star will appear on
the ground.

> HAUNTING THE HOWLING TOWER < [HWLNG]

You will start in the same dark maze. This time, you are looking for a pipe.
There is a rough path to the pipe made out of coins; follow the coins to find
the exit. Jump into the pipe, and you will get your first taste of the Boo
Mushroom. In Boo form, spin to phase through objects, and press A to float.
Phase through the wall on the right, and continue onward. Just because you are
a ghost, though, doesn't mean that you are immune to damage from other ghosts,
so proceed with caution. Continue up and left, phasing through the wall at the
end. Continue to follow the path, avoiding enemies as you go. The star is
at the end of this area, at the very top of the building.

> THE STAR IN THE SINKING SWAMP < [SSWMP]

Pick "Silver Stars Pop-Up". At the end of the poision swamp section, do not
use the launch star. Instead, long jump to another moving path in the
direction you are facing. This path is very fast and doubles over itself quite
a bit. Be very careful, since there are ghosts along this path. When you see
the star, jump to get it.

Gravity platforming for the win! As usual, the arrows on the walls denote the
direction of gravity, so always be paying attention to that. Jump on the enemy
right off the start, and continue right. In the next area, you will need to
use the moving platforms to get to the up-gravity section in the top right.
Next, jump on the blocks to get to the moving up-gravity areas, grabbing the
life mushroom in the process. When you are up top, just jump to the area on
the left to go up. In this section, ground pound the switch, and the
darkly-colored area on the wall will temporarily switch to up. Get to the pipe
before it switches back. In this next section, the gravity will switch back
and forth between down and up in time with the music. Get used to the rhythm
at the beginning of the area, then head right. Note that you can always take
it slowly. Make a judgement call when seeing a new trap; would it be easier to
get past if gravity were up or down?
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ In the area with moving platforms, there is a Comet Medal. The proper
|_____| way to do this is to go from the bottom platform to the top platform,
then wait for gravity to be pointing down. Get on top of the bottom platform
and ride it to the medal. Of course, if you got the life musrhoom, you could
always just take one for the team. When you have it, continue to the right,
then up. You will notice that the gravity is changed. Wait until the gravity
switches to down in the further section, then move into it. You should land on
the bottom, next to the electric fence. Then, when it switches to up, fall up
to the star.

> BURNING UPSIDE DIZZY < [BRNDZ]

Pick "A Walk on the Weird Side". In the very first section with the moving
platforms, get on top of the lower platform from the higher platform, then jump
into the pipe. In this area, there are a stack of crates and a fire flower.
All you need to do is climb the stack of crates and throw a fireball at the
highest crate to reveal a pipe. Enter the pipe, and you will play another
crate burning minigame. Talk to the robot to get things started. This one is
much harder than the first, so don't get discouraged. One piece of advice:
Take out as many as you can from the middle; it's much more time effective.
Another worthwhile strategy is to stand at the bottom and throw all of the
fireballs vertically. In any case, once you burn them all, the robot will give
you a star.

Another gliding stage. This one is extremely similar to the first one, and the
controls are the same. There is, however, a lot more stuff to watch out for,
such as enemies. There is a life mushroom near the beginning, but you will
unfortunately have to choose between it and the first gate. Speaking of which:
 _____

| |___ There are another five gates to hit here, and most of them are
|_____| non-trivial to find, so I will list them here. At the very beginning,
nosedive quickly, because the first gate is at the bottom of the first drop.
After getting the 1-up mushroom before going outside, turn left, and don't stop
turning left. You should swing all the way around the platform, passing
through the second gate. The third is behind the second Thwomp in the next
hallway. The fourth is at the bottom of the next room. The fifth and final
gate is in the middle at the end of the run. The Comet Medal will appear on
the left side, just ahead of the last gate. Don't forget to grab it! This is
very, very hard, so don't get discouraged. Go through the sun circle at the
end to get the star. Like before, you do not need to beat 1:30 to get the
star.

Talk to the black bird to start up the race. You will need to get first to get

significantly. Also, try your best to avoid damage, since getting hurt will
slow you down to a crawl. Once you get to the sun circle in first place, you
will earn a star.

> BOWSER JR.'S BOOMSDAY MACHINE < [BMSDY]

A nice touch right at the beginning; there is a broken-down Megahammer
decorating the first platform. Actually, you will need to wait for it to fire
a Bullet Bill at you, then quickly go along the path, past the purple enemies,
across the spinning platform, and to the glass casing with a cannon inside.
Direct the Bill to the glass case, and it will break it, revealing the cannon.
Jump inside. Fire yourself at the target. If you manage to hit it dead-on,
you will get a 1-up. You will now have to deal with two Boomerang Bros. Just
like with the Hammer Bros, two boomerangs, then an opening. After defeating
both of them, a launch star will appear. Before you use it, though, grab the
life mushroom on the far-left pole.

The launch star will take you to another cannon. Aim at the target again, but
this time, you will need to time your shot so that you don't hit the mines
spinning around the planet. Another 1-up is yours if your aim is true.
Carefully cross the platforms, making your way to the other side.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Above the blue platforms are several items, including a cloud flower
|_____| and a Comet Medal. Find the medal before you jump onto the blue
platforms; that way, you will be safe from the mines. You will have two
options now, either stay on the blue platform, and jump over the mines, or jump
back to the red platforms. Either way, you are looking for the cloud flower.
Use the cloud platforms to get to the middle of the planet, then ground pound
the stack of rocks in the middle of the platform. Use the ensuing launch star.

Fire rods and electric projectiles; Bowser Jr. went all out this time around.
Grab a cloud flower if you need one, then head toward one of the upward drafts.
Make a cloud platform in it, and go up as quickly as you can, using more than
one platform if necessary. The electric shots will destroy cloud platforms if
they make contact. At the top of the draft will be a cloud flower; grab it and
head toward the top of the boomsday machine. When you get there, ground pound
the glass on top. Once you have done that once, Bowser Jr. will activate the
fans. These will pull in the cloud platforms, causing them to disappear. Time
your moves so that you are not performing any actions while this is occurring.
One more successful hit, and the machine will become a tank! The strategy is
the same, except now the machine can move around, and you will need to make it
to the higher level of clouds before making a move for the boss. A third and
final hit will net you a Grand Star. Time for World 6!

> BOOMSDAY MACHINE DAREDEVIL RUN < [BMDDR]

When a comet appears over Bowser Jr.'s Boom Bunker, return for a comet
challenge. This star title is actually quite misleading; you will need to
complete the entire galaxy without taking any damage. The stage is actually,
significantly different, though, replacing the rotating platforms with a poison
swamp section. When firing the cannon, make sure you aim for where the target
WILL BE, not where it IS. The yellow platform here acts like a see-saw,
reacting to your weight. Make sure you have a safe place to stay when going
over the bumps. You will see a welcome sight in a daredevil run: A checkpoint
flag. After the flag, use the cloud flower to get to the launch star.

You will then fight the Boomsday Machine once more. The strategy is, as usual,
the same. Keep in mind that the fire rods are higher up when the machine
becomes a tank.

At the very beginning, use the pull stars to dodge the lava monsters and grab
the life mushroom, too. You can get the life mushroom by putting a pull star
between yourself and the mushroom, highlighting the pull star, pressing A, and
letting go before you actually make it to the pull star. You will launch a
little past the pull star, giving you the momentum to get the life mushroom.
You will need to use the same technique to get to the launch star at the end of
the area. You will be sent into another launch star. Use it as well.

In the next area, you will be platforming while avoiding fireballs and lava
waves. When one of the waves comes, you need to be sure that you are on high
ground, or else you will get burned. Grab the pole, and climb up to the
platform. Refresh your health with the life mushroom here, and continue right
and forward. Jump onto the platform on the left, and continue forward. Watch
out for the cylindrical platforms; they spin. There will be a platform with a
giant lava monster in wait; clear this platform quickly to avoid a fiery fate.
In the next area, spin inside the tornados to ascend the lavafall. You will
fall more slowly when your arms are spinning around. Use this to navigate from
tornado to tornado. When you make it to the swing at the top, swing left into
the launch star.

This section is cool-looking. You will need to jump from rock to rock to make
it to the end. The dark-colored rocks occasionally get visited by lava
monsters, so don't hang around on them for too long.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ Just before the first long, dark-colored rock, there is a rock in the
|_____| distance. Long jump to it to get a Comet Medal. Continue to the left
once you have it, and break the star out of the crystal by spinning it twice.
It will move over to the far-left rock.

> A STROLL DOWN ROLLING LANE < [RLLNE]

Grab the rock mushroom on the platform up ahead, and roll over the ramp, into a
launch star.

This will take you to an area with a lot of spiky fruit. You can destroy them
if you want, but all you really need to do here is to ram into the grey wall at
the end. This will knock it down, allowing you to cross it. Now comes the
tricky part; you will need to roll over a course with several ramps and few
walls. Remember that you can jump in rock form with the A button, and don't
panic. When you reach the N-shaped platform, you will need to bounce off the
yellow wall, back toward the other side with the yellow wall, and jump into the
area with the star. Once you are inside, crash into the block in the back-left
corner. Now just grab the star.

> THE CHIMP'S BOWLING CHALLENGE < [BWLCH]

Pick "A Stroll Down Rolling Lane". Right at the beginning of the stage is a
hidden platform with a pipe on it. Look to the left of the rock mushroom to
find it. The Chimp will challenge you to a bowling minigame. This fun game is
fairly simple: Knock down as many bowling pins as you can with the rock
mushroom. The complicated part is the patterns in which the pins appear. Each
one you hit is worth 100 points. If you get 5,000 or more, The Chimp will
reward you with a star.

Spin the pumpkin Goombas at the beginning of this stage, and they will become
normal Goombas. When you are ready, continue to the right, over the spinning
"gears", jumping from gear to gear as necessary. On the large gear, get to the
middle before the long arm is horizontal; start crossing the arm early, and you
will make it to the end when it is horizontal. On the next gear, you will need
to get on top of the platform at one of the ends of the arm. To do that, jump
onto the arm, then ride it upwards. Jump onto the end when it is around 45
degrees in the air. Once you are up there, use the launch star.

In this next area, the purple areas of the wall will occasionally move in, and
push you off the platforms. You will need to find a safe spot, so that this
doesn't happen. Standing in one of the areas of wall that is brown is safe, so
keep that in mind as you progress to the right. There is a life mushroom in
the bottom-right corner. Now, continue along the top path. When you get all
the way to the right, jump onto the wall while it is extended, then up to the
platform on the left. Continue all the way to the left, and spin the green
arrow to change the gravity to inward. The purple wall will fall out, and you
will be left with only the brown wall to walk on. Go back the way you came.
When you reach a part of the purple platform that didn't fall, ride it up to
the next level. Make your way to the switch, then ground pound it. The cage
around the Luma will open. Talk to him and he will transform into a launch
star.

The launch star will take you to an area with stones rolling down ramps. You
will need to find your way into the gaps in the stones, so that you don't get
squished. Note that the alcove with the 1-up mushroom in it is always safe.
 _____

| |___ When you get to the top of the ramp, jump into one of the holes in a
|_____| stone, and ride it back downward. When you are about halfway down the
ramp, you will notice the Comet Medal floating above you. Do a backflip to get
the medal, then head back up the ramp. Once you make it back up to the top,
wall jump up the spiked wall while the spikes are retracted. Jump into the
pegs here to swing on them. Jump from peg to peg, up and to the right, to get
to the top. Ground pound the giant burst icon, and the platform will fall
down. In the next area, you will need to wall jump between stone wheels to get
to the top. Notice that they will spin every so often, so sometimes moving
around a lot is not the best option. When you find your way to the top, go
over to the brown platform to the right. It will start to rise when you stand
on it, taking you up to a switch. Ground pound it to make a ramp appear.
Stones will start to fall onto it; jump onto one of the stones and ride it to
the pegs below the star. Jump onto the pegs, and climb up to get the star. If
you fall off of the stone, you will have to make your way back up the ramp.

> THE ADVENTURE OF THE PURPLE COINS < [ADVPC]

When a comet appears over Clockwork Ruins Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
You will need to collect the coins placed all over the gears in the opening of
"Time for Adventure" within 5 minutes. This is quite a bit of time, so don't
rush. To make sure that you have all of the coins that you're supposed to at
any given point, I will tell you how many coins you should have at various
points in the level. Before you get on the first gear, you will have 8. After
the first gear, you will have 23. After the second gear, you will have 31.
Before you get on the first big gear, you should have 37, which you can confirm
with the Whittle that is standing nearby. Now things get a little trickier.
There is a lot more surface area to cover on the next two gears. After the
first big gear, you will have 65. Before the last gear, you should have 73,
also confirmable. Keep your cool during this section; it's the trickiest part.
Once you have laid claim to all 100, the star will appear at the top of the
last gear.

> THE LEDGE HAMMER TRAP < [HMRTP]

Pick "Time for Adventure". There is a hungry Luma at the bottom of the second
large gear, who wants 30 coins. This means that you will need to get most of
the coins before the first launch star. It is IMPERATIVE that you take your
time while doing this. There are coins on all sides of all of the gears, and
it is easy to get behind or fall off if you're rushing. The ? block before the
second large gear will be your best source of income. Also there are a lot of
coins on the second large gear. If you are having trouble collecting the other
coins, head toward the end of the first area. Once you have 30, drop below the
second large gear, and give them to the Luma. Use the launch star that
appears.

This next planet is a moving platform guarded by hammers. Keep moving along
the platform, pounding the time-slow switches as you go along. When you get to
the end, jump into the pipe. Now, you need to worry about the same hammers,
except at the top end. Keep moving. When you get to the end, there will be a
star waiting for you.

> RETURN OF THE WHOMP KING < [WHKNG]

When I saw the trailer with this level in it, I legitmately shed a tear. You
technically shouldn't need a guide for this stage, since if you haven't played
Super Mario 64, you should go do that right now, but then I would be shirking
on my duties, wouldn't I? So, let's begin. You can take a classic shortcut
by jumping up the line of SBs just away from the starting point, backflipping,
then wall jumping onto the platform. Walk up the ramp with the coins, then
loop around to the left. Walk across the grey platforms, then the wooden
bridge. Wait for the wooden platform to flip around and pick you up, then ride
it to the other side. Go over to where the Wiggler is, and ground pound it for
some SBs. You can climb the flagpole here for a 1-up mushroom, if you need it.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ This Comet Medal is in basically the same place as "Shoot into the Wild
|_____| Blue" from Super Mario 64, except there's no cannon to help us this
time (though any pro would say that the cannon is actually harder). This time,
jump down, and do a midair spin to get onto the platform. Climb down the pole
to get the medal. Grab it, then make your way back up to the flagpole. This
time, though, hook around to the right. Defeat the purple Piranha Plant here,
then take one of the moving platforms up to the top of the fortress. Defeat
the giant Whomp up here, then drop down the hole that opens up.

Classic Whomp King intro. I laughed my *** off when he said his whole speech.
The battle itself is actually midly different, so I'll give a brief
explanation. When the Whomp King is about the slam the ground, the "danger"
area will blink red. If you are standing in this area, you will be crushed and
must try again. If you are standing the on the ground at all when the Whomp
King hits the ground, you will be stunned for a few seconds. The Whomp king is
pretty thick, so you can use his feet as ramps to get onto his back. Ground
pound the burst icon on his back to score a hit. If you hit him once, he will
spawn three mini-Whomps, then shake the ground, stunning you if you're on it.
The mini-Whomps can't take you down in one hit, but they are mildly annoying.
After one more hit, he will spawn five mini-Whomps and shake the ground twice.
A third hit will make him history. Oh, wait a second....

> SILVER STARS IN THE WHOMP FORTRESS < [SSFRT]

Wait a second, there weren't silver stars in Super Mario 64! Well, if you want
120 stars, you're going to have to collect them anyway. The first one is on
the main ramp to the right of the starting point. Grab the cloud flower along
the way; you'll need it for the second star, which is below the second moving
platform (the one with the ? block on it). Keep going right, and grab a new
cloud flower from behind the Thwomp. Slide down the nearby trail of coins, and
use your cloud platforms to get to the silver star on the cloud in the
distance. Keep heading around in this direction, to where the Bob-omb Buddy
is. Head up the ramp on the other side of the lake, and hook around to the
left. Grab the cloud flower on the spinning platform, the head out on the
clouds. There is another silver star back in the direction you came, so jump
out and use a cloud platform to reach it. Continue heading up the fortress
until you get to the top. Grab a fresh cloud flower, and use the cloud
platforms in the middle of the area. The last silver star is on a cloud above
the fortress. Jump down to grab the star.

> WHOMP SILVER STAR SPEED RUN < [WSSSR]

When a comet appears over Throwback Galaxy, return for a comet challenge. You
will have 2 minutes to collect all of the silver stars in Whomp's Fortress.
The path that I detailed in the "Silver Stars in the Whomp Fortress" section is
quite efficient, and using the same path will serve you well in this star.

This galaxy is really a simple concept: Defeat all of the enemies to progress.
Therefore, I'm not going to give a detailed description of what to do on each
planet, I will simply mention how to defeat the enemies in each area. First up
is a Goomba. Just jump on it. The fire enemies on the next planet can be
defeated by spinning them to cool them off, then running into them.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ The Comet Medal is on the planet with the fire enemies. Long jump over
|_____| the crater to get it. Next up are urchins. Grab a fire flower and hit
them with one fireball each. Crabbers can be spun from behind. You can stun
them by jumping on them first. You will now be on a pink Starshroom. A spin
will turn the pumpkin Goomba into a normal Goomba. You know what to do after
that. Use the shell's headlights to defeat the Boos. Now you're on a red
Starshroom. The ice enemies are defeated in the same way as the fire enemies.
The moles can be defeated by pounding the ground nearby, then spinning them.
Jump on the blue, spiky enemies ONLY when the spike is facing the ground. Spin
the green, rubber balls at the Chomps to get the star.

> MINI-PLANET DAREDEVIL RUN < [MPDDR]

When a comet appears over Battle Belt Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
This time, you will be playing through "Mini-Planet Mega-Run" with only one
unit of health. There are only two differences here; there is a 1-up mushroom
where the comet medal used to be, and there are no coins to restore your air
in the underwater section. Just be careful, and try to deal with enemies one
at a time; if they gang up on you, you will probably be in for some trouble.
When you defeat all of the silver Chomps, the star is yours.

> SNACKTIME FOR GOBBLEGUT < [SNKGG]

Pick "Mini-Planet Mega-Run". You will need 20 coins by the planet with the ice
enemies. The only way to get coins in this galaxy is by defeating enemies, so
just grab the coins that enemies drop. If you include the ice enemies, you
should be able to reach 20 fairly easily. Use the launch star that the Luma
leaves behind when you give him the coins.

You will now have to defeat a fire version of Gobblegut. The obvious changes
in this battle are that he will leave a flaming crater anytime he goes through
the planet. Also, damage will be counted as fire damage, and make Mario run
around screaming "Hot, hot, hot!" Additionally, meteors will begin to fall
once you have destroyed three of the bulges. Destroy all six to get a star.

> JUMPING AROUND IN THE DARK < [JMPDK]

The idea of this galaxy is quite simple; there is a large, dark mansion, and
every so often, it will temporary light up. While this may seem difficult to
deal with, the SBs and coins in this level are usually very good indications of
where platforms are. Remember that you're not timed, so feel free to take a
breather, and know exactly what you want to do next before moving on. One you
are inside the mansion, head all the way to the right, and grab the blimp fruit
there. Start heading toward the left while in blimp mode. There is another
blimp fruit on a platform on the left; use it to get the life mushroom. Once
you reach the narrow area, use the nearby blimp fruit to get through it. You
will have two options at the top. The left path will have you using blimp
fruit to get to the top, and the right path is a combination of flowers and
blimp fruit. If you want to get the comet medal, you will need to go left.
Plan out your route before you eat the blimp fruit; you don't want to find a
surprise ceiling.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!
| |___ After picking up the topmost blimp fruit on the left path, stay near
|_____| the left wall. The comet medal is in the top-left corner of the
mansion. After picking it up, head right to find a launch star.

In the next area, you will need to do some silver star collection in the dark.
The path is fairly straightforward, but take your time and make sure you know
where the gaps in the platforms are. You can use the coins and other items as
hints; they will never appear anywhere where there isn't a platform. Once you
find and collect all five, the star will appear at the end of the path.

> DARK OCTO-ARMY ROMP < [DKRMP]

When a comet appears over Flash Black Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
This romp will have you defeating 30 Octoombas in 80 seconds. You will NOT,
however, get a powerup to defeat them. You will have to do this one the
old-fashioned way. Bear in mind that there are never any enemies floating in
midair, so you know that there is a platform wherever there is an enemy. In
the first half of this area, all of the enemies are is a straight path, so take
them out one by one. Remember that you can defeat these guys either by jumping
on them or spinning them. Once you reach the second half, the enemies will
start to take up all of the paths. The platforms are set up such that if there
is ever a break in the path, it is fastest to go to the right first, then loop
back around to the left. Once you have defeated all 30, the star will appear
at the end of the path.

Don't waste any time down here; you have a very limited supply of air with

> THE CHIMP'S COIN CHALLENGE < [CCNCH]

Once you unlock the Mailtoad, The Chimp will send you a letter, challenging you
to a minigame in Slimy Spring Galaxy. You MUST get that letter before you
attempt this star. Talk to The Chimp, and he will have you play a minigame.
This game is similar to the stomp and score challenges, except you are mostly
shooting for coins. Remember that SBs are also worth 10 points apiece. He
will give you 180 seconds to get 10,000 points. The tentacle enemies
underwater can be defeated by shining the shell's headlights at them; they are
worth 100 points apiece, and will drop SBs upon their defeat. Be sure to
follow the trails of coins for maximum points. There are many more points to
be had before the launch star than after; I recommend that you have at least
70,000 points before you use the launch star. After the launch star, it is
much more time-efficient to concentrate on hitting the Boos with the shell's
headlights; collecting the coins that they drop can be quite difficult, and
defeating a Boo is worth 100 points, anwyay. Once time runs out, if you have
10,000 or more points, The Chimp will cough up a star.

> BOWSER'S FORTIFIED FORTRESS < [BOWSR]

This place is big and scary-looking. Right at the beginning, head to the left
and climb the pole for a life mushroom. Follow the Luma forward, dodging the
fire, and he will turn into a launch star.

In the next area, you will need to fight three Hammer Bros. The catch is that
they throw their hammers in a desynchronized fashion, so the opening during
which you can hit them is quite small. Once you fight them all off, you will
get floaty fluff. Remember this stuff? Ride it past the fire cannons to the
platform down below. Grab the spin drill, and dig through the dirt in the
middle of the platform. You will fall through to a planet with Banzai Bill
lanchers. Cross the bridge with a spin drill, being sure to step onto the side
platforms to dodge the Bills. Dig through the dirt at the end to reach another
platform. Continue forward and left here for another bridge. Do the same
thing here, and you will find a launch star.

It's time for another cylindrical platforming area. Jump right from moving
platform to moving platform. Once you reach the other side, grab the cloud
flower and use it to reach the life mushroom. Grab a fresh cloud flower, then
continue up between the Bullet Bills. Grab the ? coin, and drop down to the
bottom, being sure to make a cloud platform before you hit the lava. The fan
down here will propel you to the left, getting a cloud flower in the process.
Go back up, dodging more Bills, until you get to a Luma. Talk to him, and he
will transform into a launch star for you.

Walk across the bridge, and defeat the Magikoopa. There is a Yoshi on the
right at the end of the bridge; use his tongue on the flowers to continue to
the left. Be careful of the circular platforms; they will sink if you stand on
them for too long. Continue to the left being careful of the lava pillars, and
defeat the Boomerang Bros here. On Yoshi, you can either use your tongue to
knock them down, or eat the boomerangs that they throw, using their own weapons
against them. A path will open ahead of you. Grab the dash pepper to make it
to the end before the walls close in. Use the sling star once you reach the
end, then jump on the moving path. At the life mushroom (which you should
grab, of course), the path will split into two. Pick either left or right, and
continue forward. It is easier to dodge the fire rod if you pick the right
path, but you will have to dodge the first lava monster by jumping over to the
left path. Either way, dodge the second lava monster by jumping to the right
path.
 _____
| ___|OMET MEDAL ALERT!

than the right path. Continue up along the moving path, and grab the blimp
fruit to dodge the lava monster. Keep up with the path, though, so you don't
lose it. At the end of the path, you will get a well-deserved checkpoint.
Climb up the pole here, and grab the life mushroom behind the rock on the left.
Break the door with the meteorites.

This is it: The battle for Princess Peach. The basic idea here should be
familiar, but it wouldn't be fun if the final battle were easy, would it? To
start off, when Bowser punches the ground, he will send out fireballs instead
of shockwaves. These will leave a trail that you cannot touch, so make sure
you dodge them. The meteorites will still send out shockwaves, but this time,
there are three of them. Also, Bowser will be stuck for a much shorter length
of time after he punches the planet. After two hits, Bowser will start with
the flame breath again. After another two hits, Bowser will drop the Grand
Star. Go up and gra.... Haha, I bet you weren't expecting that, were you?
Bowser will pop out and actually EAT the star! A new battle will now begin.

The mechanic for this fight is actually quite interesting. You will be on a
meteorite. Try to ground pound it at Bowser; if you miss, there will be
another one there for you to try with. Bowser, meanwhile, will inch closer to
you. If he gets too close, he will punch you, and you will take damage.
Every time you hit him, he will start closer to you. After four hits, Bowser
will actually be defeated. Grab the Grand Star, and enjoy the closing
cutscene. I won't spoil it for you. ;) I will tell you, though, that you will
need to get all 120 stars to see the REAL ending. You will now be able to
access the special world, World S!

When a comet appears over Bowser's Galaxy Generator, return for a comet
challenge. You're probably pretty used to this by now; grab the clocks, and
I'll help you with the hard ones. The life mushroom is at the beginning is
still there; if you're not confident, grab it. The first clock is above the
block with the rotating fire rods; backflip up there to get it. When riding on
the floaty fluff, there is another clock between the fire cannons. The Banzai
Bill launchers on the bridges are non-operational, but there are clocks on the
side platforms. On the second bridge, drill through the side platform on the
right for another clock. There is a clock at the top of the cylindrical
section with the moving platforms, but that one is a judgement call as to
whether it's actually worth getting. Keep an eye out for clocks in the dash
pepper section. Take the right branch on the moving path for another clock.
Dodge the second lava monster to get the clock on the left path. Grab the star
in front of the Bowser statue when you are done.

This stage is quite reminiscent of "Mario Meets Mario" in Toy Time Galaxy from
the first Super Mario Galaxy. You will need to turn all of the blue switches
yellow, then return to the starting point to grab the star. The green
platforms will permanently disappear once you step on them, so make sure you
leave yourself a path to the star. Also, the lava will do damage to you.
You will need to hit the switches on both of Mario's hands, the buttons on his
overalls, and his face.

When a comet appears over Mario Squared Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
Oh, my. I think the only way this stage could be harder is if they left in the
spinning yellow platforms from the first Super Mario Galaxy. Either way, you
have two minutes to collect EVERY purple coin in this stage, while avoiding
Shadow Clones. To make matters worse, falling into the green goop will cause
you to immediately lose a life. The good news is that the yellow platforms
are stationary. Try to use as few of the green platforms as possible when
collecting coins; you will need to have a path back to the starting position to
claim your star. You will need to long jump to get the coins floating above
the goop; this is by far the hardest part of the level. Once you get all 100
coins, the Shadow Clones will be defeated. Carefully make your way back to the
start, using the platforms that you have (hopefully) left for yourself.

now has a slight slant to the right, so correct slightly to the left to stay on
course. Watch out for the gaps in the road. Continue across the platforms,
and onto another set of rails. Continue down the path, watching out for the
gaps. Once you reach the platform at the bottom, the star will break out of

Sound hard? It is. Here are some milestones, so that you know how many more
coins you can miss. The first section, before the where the split was in the
"original" version, has 43. You will be forced to go down the right side, now.
At the end of this part, you can have up to 64. At the second set of rails,

This stage is almost dizzying. The platforms' spinning speeds will be
increased drastically in this level, making it significantly harder to stay on
the platforms. There are also a few extra 1-up mushrooms added because of the
difficulty. Just make sure you stay on top of the platforms. After the
checkpoint, there will be a crystal. Spin it to find a Yoshi egg. Make good
use of Yoshi's flutter jump in the second half of this stage. You may notice
that there are actually a few more platforms added to the end of the stage that
spin ridiculously quickly. Yoshi will be a huge help in this area. Watch out
for the pegs on these platforms; they can kind of come out of nowhere. At the
end of the last platform is the star.

Remember the Cyclone Stone from the first Super Mario Galaxy? Well, welcome
back. To add the icing to the cake, this is the "Fast Foes on the Cyclone
Stone" version, where everything is sped up. On top of everything else, you
will need to find silver stars. Wow. Start off to the right, then back. You
can hit the time-slow switch here to make things a little easier on yourself,
and continue forward. In order to not get crushed by the block, you will need
to position yourself on the part of the platform where its teeth will fall;
there is a hole in the bottom of the block, and you will be safe in that
position. The second silver star is in the back-left corner here. Jump onto
the spinning platforms, being careful not to get knocked off by the moving
platforms.
 _____

| |___ One of the sets of moving platforms has the Comet Medal on it; just

slow-down switch nearby. While time is slowed, jump onto the moving platform.
You will need to jump again to actually pick up the medal. Once you have it,
continue to the right. Grab the third silver star on the ring with the stone
block, then go up the nearby ramp. Find the safe spot for the next stone
block, and once you are clear, run to the time-slow switch. Use it to get past
the next block. The square with the ? block on it is completely safe, so you
can hang out there for a while to catch your breath. The fourth silver star is
to the south of the main path; you should see it as you continue. The square
that it is on is also safe. Continue to the right, being careful of the moving
platforms. Grab the fifth silver star, and the star will appear right in
front of you.

Now you will even have to worry about doing this stage quickly, collecting
clocks along the way. Right at the start, look left for a clock and a
shortcut. In the section with the spinning platforms, there is a clock where
the time-slow switch used to be, as well as one right across from it, to the
right. After grabbing the clock at the top of the ramp, you can shortcut by
long jumping across the gap here; there is a shrinking platform you can land on
on the other side. Grab the last clock, and bust the star out of the crystal
to end this extremely difficult speed run.

It's an all-out classic battle between Mario and his nemeses from Super Mario
Galaxy! You will have to defeat the bosses from this game's predecessor one at
a time to advance. I will give you strategies to defeat each of these bosses.

Dino Piranha: The main goal here is to spin his tail. If you do it four times
total, he will go down. The first time is easy; he won't chase you at all.
On the second hit, he will chase you around. Just run behind him for the hit.
After the second hit, he will become much faster. All you need to do is get
behind him, though. Of course, use the launch star when you have completed the
fight.

King Kaliente: In this Phantom Ganon-style fight, you will need to spin
coconuts back at him to damage him. (See why this is similar to the Prince
Pikante fight?) He will shoot fireballs, too; you will need to dodge these.
The more damage you do to him, the more times he will hit the coconuts back at
you.
 _____

| |___ On the underside of this planet are a life mushroom, and, below it, a
|_____| Comet Medal. Do a backflip and midair spin to get the medal. Once you
have both of these, concentrate on King Kaliente. Three hits will take him
down.

Major Burrows: When he pops out of the ground to chase you, ground pound. He
will get dazed and start to run away. While he is in this state, spin him to
deal damage. After two hits, he will become much faster, and you will need to
ground pound twice to daze him. Three total hits will take him out for good.

Bouldergeist: He will throw rocks at you. The black rocks will turn into Bomb
Boos; spin these guys, and they will start to rotate around you. Get them to
crash into Bouldergeist to break the rocks around him. Watch out when the
ground turns black. This means that spikes are going to come out of the
ground. The spikes can be destroyed with a spin. Once you hit him with three
Bomb Boos, he will break apart, revealing his red weak point. Grab another
Bomb Boo and hit him with it to deal damage. After doing so, Bouldergeist will
grow himself some hands, with which he can punch you, crush you, and block Bomb
Boos. Two Bomb Boos will destroy one of the hands, but this is only temporary,
as he will eventually grow it back. One more repetition of the process will
put him out of commission.

Fiery Dino Piranha: This fight is exactly the same as Dino Piranha's, except
you are only able to spin his tail when it is not on fire. Also, taking damage
will cause Mario to run around temporarily. After taking three hits, he will
start spitting gigantic fireballs at you. Four hits will net you a star.

When a comet appears over Boss Blitz Galaxy, return for a comet challenge.
There's a reason they're called boss rushes, after all. You will have five
minutes to defeat all five bosses. Unfortunately, I feel that there is little
additional advice I can give you, other than "go fast". Bouldergeist and Fiery
Dino Piranha both take a significant amount of time to defeat, so keep that in
mind when judging the amount of time you have left. Finish the Fiery Dino
Piranha fight with time left on the clock to claim your star.

Similar to Flip-Swap Galaxy, spinning will cause the red and blue walls to
retract alternately. Therefore, you will need to time your spins in midair
such that you will be able to jump from color to color. Use this mechanic to
get to the pipe at the end of the first area. Jump across the blue platforms
in the next area, then switch to red in midair. Wall jump up the blue walls,
then switch to red for a safe landing. You get the idea now, right? Well, it
gets trickier. Continue left, then spin in midair to get inside the blue wall
jump section. In the next area, where there are blue platforms stacked on top
of red ones, do a backflip, then spin in midair to get on top of the blue
platforms. For the next jump, start with the red platforms out, so that you
can spin in midair, landing on the blue platform. At the top of the area with
spikes, you will need to retract the blue wall to get through, then, in midair,
spin, and wall jump into the blue wall, jumping up to the top. In the next
area, you will need to call out the blue walls in order to stay above the
spikes that come out of the ground.  You might see the comet medal above you;
you won't be able to get that until a little later. When you reach the end of
the spike area, wall jump up the blue wall, then switch midair to the red wall.

again, this time not spinning, and the Comet Medal will be yours. Make your
way back up to where you were, then jump onto the red wall on the right.
Backflip, then wall jump up to the blue wall. Wall jump off the blue wall, and
get in between the red walls on the right. Switch once you are inside, then
switch back and forth between red and blue to make it up to the top. Spin the

When a comet appears over Flip-Out Galaxy, return for a comet challenge. You
will have to complete "Wicked Wall Jumps" while being stalked by Cosmic Clones.
Just because you cage yourself in a wall doesn't mean they can't follow you;
if you create a wall, they will jump walk right through it. Remember that,
even if you move slowly, you have to keep moving the whole time; this includes
while on walls. It is very easy to misjudge a trajectory and cut yourself off
in this stage. In the cages with the spikes, try not to touch the ground
before wall jumping; this way, you will leave yourself a safe path through
which to leave the platform. Break the crystal at the end to collect a very
tough star.

Green Star 2: Long jump past the first (and only) launch star in this stage,
and your path will cross World 1's last green star.

> PUZZLE PLANK GALAXY <                                               {PZPLK}

Green Star 1: Right at the beginning, this one is on top of the ? block above
the spring. Ground pound the spring, then spin in midair, then wall jump off
of the ? block, then spin, and land on the ? block. A backflip to midair spin
will polish this one off for you.

Green Star 2: In the first area where the saws are cutting off pieces of the
platform, you will need to do a triple jump then wall jump off of the wall that
is being cut down. If you manage to do it before the wall falls, the green
star will be yours.

Green Star 3: On the path that is being cut off piece by piece, stop just
before the 1-up mushroom. Let the platform you are on be cut off. When you
see the green star, jump and grab it.

> HIGHTAIL FALLS GALAXY <                                             {HGHTL}

Green Star 1: At the first vertical wall you have to climb, if you manage to
go all the way up on the left side, a green star will be waiting for you at the
top.

Green Star 2: On the wall directly after the hungry Luma, jump off the top of
the wall, and land on the purple platform. Flutter jump to the right to snag
this one.

Green Star 3: In the final area, when you reach the flowers, grab the dash
pepper to the left, then swing from flower to flower, to the right. You will
see the green star above you; dismount to get it.

> BOULDER BOWL GALAXY <                                               {BLDBL}

Green Star 1: In the first area, go to the platform that you would normally
knock down to make a bridge. You can use the sides of the platform as wall
jump surfaces, and alternate wall jumping and spinning. You can make it up to
the top of the platform this way. Once on top, a backflip to midair spin will
get you high enough to grab this one.

Green Star 2: In the first area, run (don't roll) up the ramp at the end.
Spin the camera so you can see the other side of it. Just jump down to grab
the green star here.

Green Star 3: On the second platform, go to where the rock mushroom is. Spin
the camera so that you can see the green star, then jump off to get it.

> COSMIC COVE GALAXY <                                                {CMCCV}

Green Star 1: Jump up the frozen waterfalls, then jump to the left off the
platform. There is a green star over here to get.

Green Star 2: Once you make it outside of the cave, continue until you find
an up arrow. Go to the right, and jump out of the water. There is a green
star off to the right.

Green Star 3: After you get the key, long jump to the left off of the
platform, then spin in midair. This should give you enough distance and height
to snag this one.

> WILD GLIDE GALAXY <                                                 {WLGLD}

Green Star 1: After the third gate, do a nosedive into a small hole close to
the river. Simply glide into the green star to earn it.

Green Star 2: This one is just before the exit, on a rock on the right.

> HONEYBLOOM GALAXY <                                                 {HNYBM}

Green Star 1: Just before the second checkpoint, in the grapes section, is a
star, high above the last hovering grape. Bounce off the grape, then fly up
to score this green star.

Green Star 2: After the section with the poles and Fuzzies, there are two
swings. Take the second swing to the left, and fly onto the platform up above.
Fly to the right now, and grab the green star in midair.

> BOWSER'S LAVA LAIR <                                                {LVALR}

Green Star 1: In the section with the Whomps, there is a platform to the left
of the first Whomp. Get there, and look at the rock in the distance. There is
a glow behind it. Jump behind the rock to get the green star back there. Be
prepared to take some damage in the process.

Green Star 2: Just after the first door, there is a section with floor-eating
skulls. If you watch, you can actually see a green star below the floor. Wait
until the skulls eat the section of the floor right above it, then jump down.

Not that I dislike answering your questions, but GameFAQs has a great
question-and-answer system where you can ask questions and any GameFAQs user
can answer them. It is likely that if you have a question, it will be answered
much more quickly if you use their system. The URL is:

Of course, you should always feel free to shoot me an email, being sure to
follow my contact policy.

Here are a few of the questions that a lot of you are asking:

Q. Did you just copy your guide from the first game and just change the text?
A. Yes, that and the formatting. In order to give you the best information in
the smallest amount of time possible, I have to take the most efficient
route. That means reusing some of the work I did on my other guide. If you
end up writing guides for two games that are similar, I recommend doing the
same thing; it actually saves a lot of time.

Q. Why do you use so many semicolons?
A. Semicolons are very useful; they allow me to keep similar thoughts connected
in a logical way. Plus, I know how to use semicolons.
