If you go in to your inventatory and then go to plans then misalaniousit will have an option to craft a chicken trap. Then in various locations around the island it will give you options to set a chicken trap. It is a very good idea to make all the tools in your plans options as this gives you more options around the island. Hope this was helpful. Xx

Before or right after you catch a chicken make a coop if you have the inventory... You will have option to put in coop. Then there will be an option to "serenade" and wahlah you laid an egg!! Its hysterical!!
