I can tell you how to get hardwood. However, I can't find sandalwood either! Hardwood can be found by using the chimps to find it for you but easier still is to make a stone axe. A stone axe is tougher and it will be able to harvest hardwood. Good Luck!

To get sandalwood you need to have the metal axe, and you can find it in many of the different jungel areas. I know that you can get some dandalwood in the valcano jungel.Good Luck
