I accidently saved my progress when I searched for a way to beat the chapter. I found a red switch and before I saved I killed all the mini Marios and I need to use them to hit the red switch.

You don't need to use the mini marios to press the switch. Use Thoreau to drop a cragnon on the switch with you or just hold it while standing on the switch. This should activate the switch.
