Striker cup

Every time I get to the knockout stage in the striker cup I lose the first match. Please help me!
P.S. Can you tell me a really class team? At the minute it's Diddy Kong, Hammer
Bro, Koopa and Drybones.

I used
Captian= Princess peach
Sidekick 1= Birdo
Sidekick 2= Koopa
Sidekick 3= Dry bones
And ididnt lose a match
