I notice a lot of cases with blue gems in them on " the black pearl attacks" what are they used for and is there a character that can do something with them?

The blue crystals can be smashed with the ear piercing screech of a Mermaid. You get the mermaid, Serena by completing the final level in the 4th movie section, The Fountain of Youth. Serena will also smash what looks like large blocks of ice with animals such as fish and turtles inside, by standing on top of them and screaming.
Can you get the mermaid on the DS version of LEGO Pirates of the Carribean?
