Question for Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility

I'm trying to use my tools, but when I try to put it away, I can't always access my rucksack. I'll be holding the tool, and hitting the C button, but nothing will come up. Is there a way to select nothing so that my energy doesn't go down? It's really annoying because I've collasped at ;east twice from not being able to put it away.

It%u2019s weird that pressing C doesn%u2019t pull up your rucksack. But to put away a tool (if there%u2019s room for it in your rucksack) just hit B.
