Introduction

Gears of War 2 is a tactical third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios for Xbox 360. It is the sequel to Gears of War, and was announced by lead designer Cliff Bleszinski during the February 20, 2008 Game Developers Conference. The game uses a heavily upgraded version of the Unreal Engine 3. During E3 2008, a worldwide release date for the game was set for November 7, 2008. Since it's release, Gears of War 2 has been received with critical acclaim, and in it's opening weekend the game sold over two million units.

Graphics

The graphics haven't been upgraded greatly, since gears of war 1. I think it would hard to upgrade the already amazing graphics, but they managed it somewhat.

The attention to detail is great, every little nook and cranny has been drawn. I don't think you could fault the graphics at all.

Sound

I can't really comment on the sound. The quality was great, the souns were realistic, so it didn't feel like a poorly made game. However I think the sounds of explosions could have been a little louder (I know you can turn it up, but this also increases the sound of everything else) the explosions should have been a bit louder as standard.

Gameplay

The gameplay wasn't anything special. If anything, I would say this game is Gears of War 1.5, rather than 2. The campaign featured nothing new, apart from the locusts being able to revive downed enemies. Multiplayer is better, as the new game modes ad maps are all good. But I prefered the campaign in GoW 1 to this one. I don't think theres anything that struck me as new to the campaign to make it different to gears 1.

I was disapointed during one scene towards the end of the game (SMALL SPOILER)

Where you are in the burning house, and theres what looks like 40+ locusts and a brumak charging at you. I had seen a screenshot of this, and though ZOMG AWESOME BIG FIGHT, but to my horror, it lasted about 5 seconds, before the building collapsed on all th locusts. NOOOO!!!

Lastability

This game will last forever. The campaign isn't really replayable if you don't have xbox live, unless you are a gamerscore freak and want all the acheivements.

The new multiplayer modes give the game the game a little extra kick, and the ability to play with bots now gives those without xbox live a chance to keep on playing, and as a bonus, most of the multiplayer acheivements can be earned through offline play against bots.

Overall

Overall this game gets a 7. The campaign wasn't anything special, the plot was pretty predictable (apart from the very end), for example when you and Dom (SPOILER)

Go and look for maria, the first thing I thought was "I bet she is dead or will die". And to my delight, I was correct.

I also got nothing that made me want GoW 3. I can;t think of anything they could add to the game to make it better, and the storyline could end like it did, without another GoW.

A good game, but it could have been a bit better.

Final Score: 82%
