Introduction

When The Legend of Zelda was first released, people played it nonstop. Twenty-five years later, and the series is still going strong. This latest addition to the series has had mixed reviews, but in the end, it is an excellent game that can compare to the revolutionary Ocarina of Time.

Graphics

Many people were disappointed with the graphical choice that Skyward Sword went with. It made it seem too "cartoony" to some people. The graphics are very cheery whenever they can be, and almost always fit the mood. There are some graphical errors, such as random out-of-place blotches, but it's still excellent.

Sound

Skyward Sword was the first of the series to use fully orchestrated musical tracks. It combines the synthesized MIDI style of previous Legend of Zelda titles with the Hyrule Symphony's amazing orchestrations to fit the music perfectly with the events that are occurring in game. A few of the sound effects are reused from the previous console title, Twilight Princess, but the majority of the sounds are new and fit what they go to perfectly.

Gameplay

The gameplay is an excellent example of what motion gaming should be. The sword follows your movements perfectly, making it seem like you're actually holding it in your hand. Some basic movements from the series are a bit harder to pull off, such as a roll or a jump attack, but they make room for more new controls. There are random bits of slowdown when too much is happening on screen, but it's very uncommon and you'll likely go through the whole game without seeing it occur.

Lastability

This game easily takes a lot of time out of you. There are many optional sidequests that can be completed. A few might take a lot of time, such as collecting Gratitude Crystals for Batreaux. Some are simple, and you'll probably complete them within a few minutes. There are also different outcomes to several sidequests, only one ending of which can be seen during a single playthrough. There are also some minigames that will likely cause you to drain your wallet trying to get what you want, such as Boboh's minigame.

Overall

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is a very good game. It has it's ups and downs, but what game doesn't? It has great gameplay, great music, great graphics, and an excellent story. It always has room for humor, even in the most serious of moments. This game is definitely worth your time.

Final Score: 88%
