Extra Lives in Hero Mode

Turn on the game, and while on the Options Screen, hold L, and enter Up, X, Left, Y, Down, B, Right, and A. New credits should appear, and you can now adjust your continues.

Unlocking Extra Mode

Just pop in the game, and while on the title screen, hold Select and then press Start. Now at the Options Screen, hold R, then press Up, X, Right, A, Down, B, Left, and Y. This should allow you to have Extra Mode.
