I took on the kushala daora and it said "the injured elderdragon flow away" when do I figh it again.

When fighting elder dragons they flee after 25 mins or when you do enough damage. Another quest will appear with the same monster after a couple of quests and you will have to fight it again, you might have to fight an elder dragon two or three times to bring it down, so keep at it and good luck hunting!
