What does it mean when it says to defend I don't get it and I can't defeat the shen gaoren

Defend means that you need to protect the town or fortress from intruders or repell them.For the Shen gaoren I used the Devil slicer all you need to do is attack his legs until they all turn blood red and heel fall right down after this don't let him attack the barrier and if you don't weaken him enough the quest will be over.
