Question for Thief

Looting the city problems

I've been following along with the only video's of the entire looting city I could find on Youtube and before chapter 5 I'm suppose to have 279 loot Items according to the video's but I always come up 1 short and that's after retracing my steps....I'm wondering do loot Items or collectables vanish at a certain point In the game If you don't get to them In time?
