I remember finding one on Chapter 3-1. It was next to one of the small marshland huts where Majini attack you.

The rotten egg can be anywhere. I have found it by killing all types of enemies in all different spots. Truth is I believe it's a random thing that they built into the game. FYI, I have found far more rotten eggs than gold ones. Take the rotten one, select amature and wing one at an easy villian...you'll get a trophy if that is what your after.
