No Solid Snake never lost his eye, he has that eye patch for advanced sighting capabilities, so he can spot enemy soldiers easily and identify targets.

What! Snake did not lose his eye! But I saw a movie that he did. In metal gear solid 3: Snake Eater. When a guy named volgin tortures Snake, afterwards Snake accidently gets shot by another guy. I saw it on youtube. Wow I'm confused now :P

Ooh I see, so the snake in MGS3 wasn't the real solid snake at all. Pretty stupid they had to make him so similar to the real one then though. Sorry my mistake ! :P

Yes he did lose his eye in mgs3 but I saw in a video that he has both eyes but I don't know why.

Ok, in mgs3, that is not solid snake, that is his "father" big boss or, naked snake as he was known back then, he gets shot in the right eye in 1964, 8 years before solid snake is even cloned, solid snake has the "eyepatch" on his left eye. The eyepatch is called the solid eye. It lets him see enemy positions, night vision, and binoculars in 3-d imagery

The eyepatch is really the Solid Eye, it helps SOLID Snake to tell friends and foes apart. Its also quite handy instead of having to carry 3 things at he same time.

Snake did not lose his eye,he had gotten a solid eye off of otacon which allows him to use binocs,night vision and being able to see what kind of stuff is in the boxes or just seeing what kind of enemy it is.
