I have been playing Monster Hunter since it was released in North America, almost a year later I decided to write this guide in order to assist the new people playing the game. This guide covers all of the offline and online quests, armor and weapon creation and monster information. You will also find an item combination list. Monster Hunter is both published and developed by Capcom. If you are new to the game, I suggest first reading over the instruction book that came with the game. You can find many helpful tips and information within the book. I also suggest, if you are planning to play online, that you first play a bit of the offline mode before heading online. This way you can familiarize yourself with the controls and make yourself some basic equipment. I have implemented a search system, I suggest that you use it. It is very simple to use, simply press Ctrl+F and enter the desired section's corresp- onding roman numeral surrounded by square brackets in the search field. Press enter to be taken to that section. The walkthrough, weapon and armor sections each have their own tables of contents. I highly suggest that you utilize this system, as it will allow you to use this guide much more effeci- ently. ------\======================================================================== [II] \ Walkthrough --------\====================================================================== This walkthrough covers each and every quest found in Monster Hunter. From offline to online, it's all here. Due to the nature of the game, I have included a list of all of the quests. I have implemented a search system, it is very easy to use. Search for the quest that you need guidance on from the list below. Simply press Ctrl+F to call up Find. Enter the corresponding search code to the right of the quest in the search field and press enter to be taken to that quest. I highly suggest that you utilize this system, as it will allow you to use this walkthrough much more effeciently. 1. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OFFLINE QUESTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes: I completed the offline mode using a lance(Iron Lance series, specifically). Though it is not necessary to use a lance, some of the strat- egies in this walkthrough will be easier to follow with one, since I wrote them based on my experience with a lance. I don't have the patience or the time to write six different strategies for each wyvern, but I tried to write the strategies with the other weapons in mind. Use whichever weapon type you are best with, I am just unsure how effective some of the strategies for the wyverns will be. =====================================================================|--------| One Star Quests | (OFL1) | =====================================================================|--------| O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Gathering Quests...........................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Basics: Finding Raw Meat | (1.01) O===============================O Reward: 50z Contract: 0z Time: 50 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 2 pieces of Raw Meat Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Village Chief First, a little trial. Hunt down an Aptonoth and harvest the meat. Deliver 2 pieces of Raw Meat and you'll complete your first quest! For this quest you need to find some Aptonoth and kill them, then you need to carve them and obtain 2 pieces of Raw Meat. Once the quest begins, head over to the big blue box. This is the supply box, at the start of each mission you should view its contents. It usually contains supplies that will aid you in your quest. Once you are finished viewing the supply box leave the camp area and move into Area 1. The large herbivorous monsters in this area are the Aptonoth. This is a good chance to familiarize yourself with your weapon. Kill an Aptonoth and then press the X button to carve it. You can receive either a piece of Raw Meat or a Sm Monster Bone. You're looking for Raw Meat, so kill as many Aptonoth as needed until you have two pieces in your inventory. Once you have the required materials, head back to camp. Approach the big red box and press X while standing in front of it. Your character will deliver the items and you will have completed your first quest. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Basics: Preparing Meat | (1.02) O===============================O Reward: 50z Contract: 0z Time: 50 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 1 Well-Done Steak Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Village Chief You can't eat Raw Meat! You've got to cook it first! I want you to barbecue some meat and bring a piece back to camp! In this quest you will learn how to cook Raw Meat. When the quest starts, go to the supply box and take the out the Portable Spit. Leave camp and head into Area 1. Kill a few of the Aptonoth and carve them. Once you have a piece of Raw Meat select the Portable Spit from your items and press Square to start cooking the meat. Listen to the music that is playing, watch the piece of meat that is on the barbecue. Once the music stops, in a couple of seconds the piece of meat's colour will change slightly. When it changes press X to produce a Well- Done Steak. It takes about two seconds after the music stops for the meat to change, so count if it helps. There are four types of meat: The initial, Raw, Rare Steak, Well-Done Steak and Burnt Meat. You're aiming for the Well-Done, you have to make sure that you don't let the meat cook for too long or it will become burnt. It may take a few tries, but you will eventually get the hang of it and you should be able to make a Well-Done each time. Once you have your Well-Done Steak, return to camp and bring it to the Delivery Box to complete the quest. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Basics: Searching for Items | (1.03) O===============================O Reward: 50z Contract: 0z Time: 50 minutes Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 2 Herbs and 1 Spiderweb Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Village Chief You can find all sorts of useful items during a hunt. Search around and bring me 2 Herbs and 1 Spiderweb. You're looking for two Herbs and a Spiderweb. Grab the map from the Supply box and proceed into the first area. As soon as you enter Area 2, look to your right. Next to the tree there is a small plant, stand over it and press the X button to search for items. You can find the Herbs here, continue searching until the "There is nothing else here" message is displayed. You can only search for items if your character's weapon is sheathed. Continue moving through Area 2, to the left you should notice a small ledge. Move along the side of this ledge until you find some hanging vines. Move up to them and press the X button to climb up. Proceed into Area 6. The only monsters in here are harmless Mosswine, you can kill them if you want and carve them for some extra items. Move over to the series of ledges in this area and climb up them. The path is very straight forward, just climb the vines when you get to them. Once you have made your way to the top, head directly in front of you. Stand near the Spiderweb and search for items. Once you have a Spiderweb jump back down the cliff. You do not take any damage from falling in this game. Return to camp with the requested items and deposit them in the delivery box to complete the quest. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Basics: Combining Items | (1.04) O===============================O Reward: 50z Contract: 0z Time: 50 minutes Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 2 Potions Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Village Chief You can combine items to make new ones! Start with the basics: a Potion! You'll need a Blue Mushroom, and... Oh, what was the other... The item combination for Potions is Herb + Blue Mushroom. Make sure that you bring along the extra Herbs that you found during the last quest. You need to bring two potions back to the Delivery box. Take the map from the Supply box and head to the newly accessible Area 8. Head up and to the left and search by the mushrooms. Continue finding Blue Mushrooms until the "There is nothing else here" message is displayed. If you need some Herbs, make your way to Area 2 and search by the tree to your right as you enter the area. Once you have the required materials, press the Start button and select the Combine option from the menu. Search through your inventory and select a Blue Mushroom and a Herb. The outcome of the combination is a Potion. Do this once more and then return to camp and bring them to the delivery box. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Basics: Fishing | (1.05) O===============================O Reward: 50z Contract: 0z Time: 50 minutes Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 1 Sushifish Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Village Chief You can use the fish you catch in all sorts of ways! Catch a Health-restoring Sushifish and bring it back to camp! Take all of the items from the Supply chest and make your way to Area 11. Take the rations to fill your Stamina bar, this way you can run for a longer period of time before tiring. Once you have entered Area 11 you will witness a brief scene. As you enter notice the giant pig charging towards you? Yeah, you'd better move out of the way. Unlike the other monsters that you have encountered thus far, the Bullfango are hostile. If you need a place to recover, you can climb up the waterfall to your left. Once you are ready, hop back down, you can use the log here as a barrier between yourself and the Bullfango. Believe me, you will learn to hate the Bullfango. They are probably the most annoying enemy in the entire game, in my opinion. This Bullfango however, isn't a problem. Since he is alone, and Bullfango are only really annoying when there are a bunch of them. Study his attack pattern, pretty basic. You can tell when he is readying to charge, that is a good sign for you to get out of his way. Attack him from behind and when he turns around move around him and continue attacking. When he shakes his head and snorts, he will charge right away, so beware of that. Always stay behind him and continue slashing him. He can take a fair amount of punishment from the Hunter's Knife, but he will go down eventually. If he is running towards you and you know that you won't be able to get out of your way, hold and press R1 will facing him to block his charge and take minimal damage. Once he is dead carve him fast because his body disappears quickly. Now you can proceed with fishing. Select the worms from your items and move along the pond to the right. Once the red X disappears press Square to start fishing. The fish you are looking for is the Sushifish, they are the tiny, slender fish that you can see swimming around. To fish, keep an eye on the red bobber in the water. When you see a fish approaching it, get ready. If you see the bobber drop under the water slightly, then press X to reel in the fish. If the fish just nudges it, do not press X, wait until you can see it sink. Don't wait too long though, there is a chance that the fish could steal your bait. Continue fishing until you reel in a Sushifish. You can stay here and continue fishing if you'd like, since the fish sell for a decent price at this point in the game. If you run out of worms, head over near the entrance to Area 12 and look for a rock. Search around here and you can find worms. This supply of worms is infinite, so don't worry about running out. Keep an eye on the quest time, if you decide to stay longer and fish you should probably head back to camp once you have 5 minutes left. Whatever your choice, bring the Sushifish back to camp and drop it in the Delivery Box to complete the quest. O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..URGENT!....................................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Your First Monster Hunt! | (1.06) O===============================O Hunting Quest Quest Level: ** Reward: 200z Contract: 100z Time: 40 minutes Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay 3 Velociprey Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Village Chief Help! The children are being attacked by small, blue monsters called Velociprey! 3 of the beasts are outside! Do something! Your first hunting quest is a simple one, you need to kill three Velociprey, which are the blue raptor-looking monsters. Grab the items from the Supply Box and head to Area 8. Here you will encounter the Velociprey. You will witness a brief scene, once you regain control over your hunter attack anything that is blue and moving. Move down to the center and you will find three Velociprey here. They are easy to kill, but with three of them and you are the only target, things can get hectic. Try to separate one of them from the pack and then attack them with a combo. When the other Velociprey catch up, run to the other side and attack them. They will most probably pounce and bite you, but most of their attacks are easily avoidable. Don't bother carving them, their bodies disappear quickly and you also have the other Velociprey to deal with. Once they are all dead you will have completed the quest. =====================================================================|--------| Two Star Quests | (OFL2) | =====================================================================|--------| O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Gathering Quests...........................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Mushroom Picking | (1.07) O===============================O Reward: 180z Contract: 90z Time: 50 minutes Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 7 Special Mushrooms Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Loving Sibling I want to send some Special Mushrooms to my brother in town. But there are too many monsters. Please bring 7 Special Mushrooms to me. You are looking for seven Special Mushrooms. Grab the items in the Supply box. For this quest you will also receive an Old Pickaxe and Bugnet. If you would like, you can take find some optional items by mining. You can find mining spots in Area 6 by climbing up the cliff, on one of the ledges outside of the entrance to Area 5, Inside Area 5 on the wall, and in Area 11 by climbing up the waterfall. Exit camp and head into Area 6, there are now Velociprey hanging out in Area 2. Do not attempt to climb up the vines with them in this area. While you can get away with it, it is much safer to go next to the ledge and climb up the lower one, and then climb up to the top level. When you enter Area 6, follow the Mosswine. Where ever the stop and start sniffing around is where the Special Mushrooms can be found. They can be found by the bushes to the left when you first enter the area. If you don't manage to find all seven of the Special Mushrooms, you can kill the Mosswine and there is a chance that when you carve one you will obtain a Special Mushroom. Just enter and exit the area and continue killing them until you have found seven Mushrooms. If you don't want to do it this way head to Area 10. There are more Mosswine here and their noses will lead you to more Special Mushrooms. Continue obtaining the mushrooms until you can't carry anymore. Though you can't get them once the quest is over, if you have a surplus of them you will be able to sell them once the quest is over. The amount of money that you make from selling them is good at this point in the game. Once you have enough Special Mushrooms, return to camp and drop them off in the Delivery box. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Present for the Armorer | (1.08) O===============================O Reward: 200z Contract: 100z Time: 40 minutes Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 5 Kelbi Horns Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Veteran Armorer The decorations on Bowguns have always been made from the horns of Kelbi. But we're running out! Can you bring 5 Kelbi Horns to me? This quest requests that you deliver five Kelbi Horns. Leave camp and make your way to Area 2. Kelbi are deer-like herbivorous creatures, you can find them in Area 2. You can carve a Kelbi only one time once you have killed it. You have a chance of either receiving a Kelbi Horn, Hide or Raw Meat. Five Kelbi Horns are not hard to obtain. The Kelbi are fast but they aren't aggressive. Find a Kelbi and attack them, try to get them locked in a combo. Be aware that even though they are on the ground, they aren't dead. Hit them while they're down until you hear their death cry. Once you are finished with the Kelbi in Area 2 proceed into Area 3. If you run out of Kelbi in Area 3, just return to Area 2 and they will have respawned there. Once you have five Kelbi Horns return to camp and deposit them into the Delivery Box. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Help for the Festival | (1.09) O===============================O Reward: 180z Contract: 90z Time: 40 minutes Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 5 Well-Done Steaks Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Town Chef I'm cooking for a big festival in town. But I'm running low on Well-Done Steaks. Can you bring me 5? This quest is like the Preparing Meat quest, except this time you have to deliver five Well-Done Steaks instead of one. Grab the Portable Spit from the supply box and proceed into Area 2. Kill the Aptonoth in Area 2 and carve them for Raw Meat. Once you have a good amount of Raw Meat start cooking them. If you run out of Aptonoth leave Area 1 and return, they will have respawned. Once you have cooked five Well-Done Steaks bring them back to the delivery box. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Raid the Wyvern's Nest | (1.10) O===============================O Reward: 350z Contract: 100z Time: 50 minutes Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 1 Wyvern Egg Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Local Doctor One of the village people has fallen ill, I need a Wyvern Egg to cure them. Please sneak into a nest and get an egg for me! This is an easy one. This may be your first carry quest. In this quest you have to go to the Wyvern's Nest and take an Egg. While you are carrying it you cannot drop it or it will break. If you get hit, you will drop it, if you draw your weapon or run out of stamina, you will drop it. You have to take the egg from Area 5 and bring it back to Camp. If you encounter Rathalos (the big red wyvern), just run away. Head to Area 5 and clear the area of the three Velociprey. Grab an egg and head back out and into Area 4 where you came in. Watch the Vespoid that is buzzing around, jump down onto the lower hill and then onto the ground. Do not jump from the top down to the bottom, the egg will break! Leave Area 4, head into Area 9. There are only Melynx in this area and they are incredibly easy to dodge. When you are through 9 move into Area 8 and then into Area 1. Make your way to camp and drop the egg in the big red box. That's it. O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..URGENT!....................................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | The Formidable Velocidrome! | (1.11) O===============================O Hunting Quest Quest Level: *** Reward: 400z Contract: 150z Time: 50 minutes Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay 1 Velocidrome Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Young Guardsman After you killed those Velociprey, their leader showed up! It's bigger and it has an orange crest. Find it and kill it! Before going on this quest, make sure that you have at least upgraded your Hunter's Knife or have purchased a new weapon all together. Bring all of your healing items and anything else that you think may be useful. Once the quest has started grab everything in the supply box and proceed into Area 1. You should use your Rations at this point. Make your way into Area 10, here you will witness a short scene introducing the Velocidrome. Area 10 is a pretty bad area to be fighting the Velocidrome, but you will have to fight him here until he retreats. The real problem here is that the Velocidrome is accompanied by some Velociprey, they are very annoying and interrupt you while you are attacking their leader. The Velocidrome is larger than a normal Velociprey, and he has a prominent orange crest on his head. You need to keep an eye on him during this battle, because he will retreat into another area to heal. With all of the Velociprey in Area 10 and its size, it can make things really confusing. Area 3 is a much more desirable place to fight him. If you abandon the quest and start it up again, you will not be forced to view the small video that is played in Area 10. This allows the Velocidrome to move around the level freely while he waits for you to arrive. This way you should be able to fight the Velocidrome in Area 3 from the beginning, making the battle much easier. If things are getting too hectic and you need a break, you have been provided with four Flashbombs for this quest. To use a Flashbomb effectively, have your character facing away from the monster, so the monster is looking at your characters back. Throw the Flashbomb directly in front of you and it will hit the monster. This will not only silence the Velociprey for a short while, it will also incapacitate the Velocidrome, allowing you to get in a few free hits. You can probably kill a few of the Velociprey in between hits with the Velocidrome, or you can clear the area of Velociprey when you first enter, and ignore the Velocidrome until it is cleared. If you need additional healing items, there are a lot of Herb trees around this level. Just continue attacking the Velocidrome until he is dead. Once you have killed him you will have completed the quest. =====================================================================|--------| Three Star Quests | (OFL3) | =====================================================================|--------| O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Gathering Quests...........................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Liver of Legend! | (1.12) O===============================O Reward: 600z Contract: 150z Time: 50 min. Area: Desert Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 3 Piscine Livers Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Foreign Peddler I deal in rare items that I find in the desert. I've got a buyer for Water Wyvern and Sand Wyvern livers. Deliver 3 livers to me! This quest is quite annoying. You'll need Sonic Bombs for this quest, and you probably have access to the materials by now. The combination for Sonic Bombs is Screamer + Gunpowder. You should have received Screamers from the Velocidrome quest, the combination for Gunpowder is Nitroshroom + Fire Herb. Nitroshroom you should have at least received a few as reward from the mushroom gathering quests. Fire Herbs, conveniently, can be purchased from the item shop in the village. Take to the woman standing by the shop to purchase them. There is a 95% chance that the Gunpowder combination will be successful. If it isn't instead of the desired item you will receive garbage. Sonic Bombs have a 75% chance of being successful, so there is quite a high chance that you will receive garbage, and you need all of the Sonics that you can get. This quest has the possibility of taking a very long time. You are provided with two Sonic Bombs for this quest, use them wisely. Take the items from the supply box, drink a Cool Drink and then proceed into Area 2. In the Desert and Volcano zones, your hunter's health gradually depletes. If you drink a Cool Drink, the effect will stop for a short while. The Cephalos are small wyverns that swim around in the sand. They can be found in both Area 2 and 7. When you throw a Sonic Bomb in their direction while they are swimming in the sand, they will be brought to the surface. The Cephalos themselves are not tough to beat, it is just getting them to the surface that is the main problem. If you don't have any Sonics left, you will just have to hit their fins as they swim around you. When they jump up to spit sand, this is a good time to hit them while they are in the sand. When you have managed to bring one of them to the surface, strike their legs. They have a few basic attacks, their tailswing, just avoid this by blocking or rolling out of the way. They will sometimes try to bite you, if you are standing between their legs this can be avoided. Their body slam, it is easy to see when they are readying for this, just prepare to block or roll out of the way. They also spit sand, this is actually a good time to get a few good hits in since you shouldn't be standing in front of them anyway. They don't have that much health, once one is dead you will be able to carve it once. There is a chance that you will receive a Piscine Liver, but you can also get some other stuff as well. You have a higher chance of finding a Piscine Liver however, but you may have to kill more than three Cephalos to get them all. Once you have enough livers, you can go and mine if you want, there are a few mining spots in Area 6. Only mine if you have enough time left, if you didn't bring pickaxes just return to camp and deliver the requested materials. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | The Mushroom Hunt! | (1.13) O===============================O Reward: 300z Contract: 150z Time: 50 min. Area: Jungle Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 10 Special Mushrooms Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Botanist I finally made it! I have traveled far to find rare mushrooms. I need 10 Special Mushrooms for my research. Please find them! Another mushroom gathering quest. Grab the map from the supply chest and head into Area 2. There are Mosswine in this area, follow one of them and wherever it stops to sniff around, search here to find Special Mushrooms. Gather as many as you can from that spot and then proceed to Area 3. Search around here for more Special Mushrooms. You should have enough after gathering in this area, but if you don't you can find some more in Area 9. You can find some by searching near the rocks by the entrance. Just follow the Mosswine. There are mining spots in Areas 9 and 10, if you brought pickaxes along you should take the time to mine. Once you are finished and have the requested items, head back to camp and bring them to the delivery box to complete the quest. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Find the Wyvern Eggs! | (1.14) O===============================O Reward: 800z Contract: 200z Time: 30 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 2 Wyvern Eggs Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Local Doctor One of the village people has fallen ill. With 2 Wyvern Eggs I could make a remedy. Please get me 2 eggs from a wyvern's nest! This quest is similar to the first wyvern egg quest. This time you need to find two Wyvern Eggs and bring them back to camp without dropping them. There are two ways that I use to beat this quest. The first way takes longer, but you can't fail. The second way is quicker but there is a chance that you could get hit and drop the egg. I'll start with the first method. Go to Area 5, just ignore Rathalos if you see him along the way. Once in Area 5, pick up and egg and then drop it. Kill all of the Velociprey in the area and you may as well mine while you are here. When you are finished in Area 5 exit into Area 4. Now clear Areas 3, 2 and 1 of all of the Velociprey. They won't respawn and you will be free to take the egg back to camp without any threats. Remember that the Aptonoth in Area 1 have been replaced by Velociprey when you picked up the egg, don't forget to clear that area. Bring two of the eggs back to the camp to complete the quest. Now for the second way, I find this way much better because it takes less time. Go to Area 5, kill the Velociprey, use rations and pick up an egg. Take the egg out into Area 4 and then into 3. Now you have to run into Area 9, avoiding the Velociprey that are jumping at you. Only a couple of them should have seen you, and they are easy to dodge, just watch your stamina meter. In Area 9 the only thing you have to avoid are the Melynx. Move through 9 and into 8, move straight through 8 and into 1. Avoid the two Velociprey that are trying to hit you and bring the egg back to camp. If you managed to bring the egg back to camp unharmed, head back into Area 1. You may as well kill the Velociprey in here, so that the next egg you bring to camp will be that much easier. Return to Area 5, take another egg and bring it to camp to complete the quest. O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Hunting Quests.............................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Trouble in the Forest | (1.15) O===============================O Reward: 450z Contract: 150z Time: 50 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay 10 Bullfango Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Lumberjack Those boar-monsters, the Bullfango, have been a lot of trouble lately. Can you thin the herd by 10 head? Much obliged. When the quest begins take all of the necessary items from the supply box and make your way to Area 8. Climb up the first ledge that you see. You can see that there are two Bullfango down below, and you were probably greeted by one as you entered the area. You can just stand on the ledge and let the two or three Bullfango ram into each other until they are dead. It is much faster to just jump down and try to fight them at the same time. They are not that hard, you just have to be aware of the other Bullfango while you are concentrating on killing one. Remember, attack the Bullfango from behind, never in front. If he shakes his head it means he is going to charge right after. Kill all the Bullfango in Area 8, you should have found three of them in that area. Area 10 is a nightmare, you can try to kill the Bullfango in there if you want, but it would be much safer to avoid that area. I counted about five Bullfango in there, and since it is a wide open area, things can get hectic. Instead, go into Area 9, you should find at least six of them in there. Just jump up onto the ledge and let them kill each other. When there is only one of them left, jump down and kill him. I found the last seven in Area 9, so once you clear that Area you should complete the quest. An alternate strategy, provided by Nicholasomusi: "Just go to Area 9 and go through the hole where you can catch bugs, If you stay there the Bullfango can't hit you and they'll just kill each other until you win the quest." Go make a sandwich or something. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Slay the Velociprey! | (1.16) O===============================O Reward: 300z Contract: 130z Time: 40 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay 10 Velociprey Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Proud Farmer A pack of 10 Velociprey have been preying on my cows! They're too much for me to handle. Please get rid of them for me! This quest is like your first monster hunt, you just need to kill ten this time. Go to Area 2 and kill the three Velociprey in that area. Head into Area 3 and kill the four Velociprey in there. Move on to Area 5 and kill the final three Velociprey in the cave. May as well get some mining done while you are there. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Jungle Menace | (1.17) O===============================O Reward: 950z Contract: 200z Time: 50 min. Area: Jungle Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Yian Kut-Ku Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Macho Guardsmen A bird-like Yian Kut-Ku is attacking people all over the place! Show me what you're made of by taking it out! This is probably your first battle with a real wyvern. Yian Kut-Ku will be your first wyvern. Kut-Ku is no easy task for a beginner, he is very quick and can take a lot of punishment. If you also factor in the annoying Velociprey pouncing on you while you are trying to fight, it becomes all the more difficult. Unlike the online mode, offline you are the only target, meaning all of the monsters have their eyes on you. Before heading out on this quest, make sure that you bring along plenty of healing items. Potions, you should know the combination. Mega Potions, Honey + Potion, you can find Honey in the jungle in Area 3. If you have some Sonic Bombs or the ability to make them, bring those along too. The combination for Sonic Bombs is Gunpowder + Screamer. The combination for Gunpowder is Fire Herb + Nitroshroom. You should have access to all of these materials at this point. Fire Herbs can be purchased at the item shop in the village. Make sure your weapon is at least better than the Hunter's Knife that you started with, armor doesn't really matter if you are good at dodging his attacks. If this is your first time going on this quest, you will be able to find him in Area 2. Take all of the items from the supply chest. Proceed to Area 2 and after the short scene is finished, sneak up on Kut-Ku and mark him with a Paintball. He will probably spot you though, just hit him with one when you have the chance. Area 2 is probably the best area to fight him in, since the only enemies in Area 2 are Aptonoth, who run away and Mosswine who only attack you if they have taken damage. Don't use your Flashbombs in this area, if you brought Sonic Bombs, use those instead to incapacitate Kut-Ku. Kut-Ku doesn't like loud noises, that is why I advised you to bring Sonic Bombs. The Small Barrel Bombs that you were provided with are also effective, but they don't work as well as Sonic Bombs. If you throw a Sonic Bomb near Kut-Ku, it will hurt his ears and he will be stunned for a short while. Depending on your weapon type, this will allow you to get in a lot of free hits. You probably should use the Sonic Bombs in an area where there aren't any Velociprey, so that when he is stunned you are able to attack him without interruption. Kut-Ku's attacks, well the thing about Kut-Ku is that he doesn't give you much warning when he is about to do something. That is why you shouldn't stand in front of him while attacking. He has an attack where he charges, usually without warning. He also spits Fire, which is a projectile attack, so if you are healing or sharpening your weapon, make sure that you do it far from Kut-Ku. His tailswing is easily avoided by blocking or rolling out of the way. He has his peck attack, which is quite easy to avoid, unless you are caught off guard. The best way to attack Kut-Ku is to stand between his legs and attack his body. If you are using a lance it is easy to stab his legs and make him fall over, allowing you to get some free hits. Always attack his legs when you have the chance to. Try to stay between his legs so that you won't be hit if he swings his tail. If he moves to Area 1 or 7, these areas are full of Velociprey. So it is a good idea to use your Flashbombs in one of those areas. To use a Flashbomb correctly, have your character's back facing away from the wyvern, so that the wyvern is looking at your character's back. Then throw the Flashbomb directly in front of you. This should stun the Kut-Ku and most if not all of the Velociprey that are around for a short period of time. Kut-Ku is not completely defenseless at this point, he can still bite you and swing his tail. He can't move from that spot though, and the attacks are easy to avoid. You have two Flashbombs at the very least, so you should be able to get a lot of good hits in while the Velociprey are knocked out. When Kut-Ku's ears go down, that means that he is low on health and close to death. Continue attacking him until he is dead. Once you have succeeded in killing him your quest will be completed. Good job! O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Slay the Yian Kut-Ku! | (1.18) O===============================O Reward: 900z Contract: 200z Time: 40 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Yian Kut-Ku Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Macho Guardsmen A bird-like Yian Kut-Ku is attacking people all over the place! Show me what you're made of by taking it out! This is another Kut-Ku slaying quest, it is like Jungle Menace but it takes place in the Forest and Hills as opposed to the Jungle. Forest and Hills is actually an easier place to fight Kut-Ku, so if you were able to beat Jungle Menace, you shouldn't have a problem with this quest. Use the same strategy as the quest above this one. You will most likely find Kut-Ku in either Area 3 or 9 initially. From Area 1 move into 8 and then 9. Move all the way through 9, as he can be on either end. Area 9 is a bad place to fight Kut-Ku, there are Melynx cat theives in this area. They steal your valuable items and knock you down while you are trying to fight Kut-Ku. Not fun. If you take some Felvine along with you, which can be from the item shop in the village, the cats will steal that first instead of your other items. This way you don't have to worry about the cats stealing your healing items. Kut-Ku likes to fly around, so remember to hit him with a Paintball when you first spot him, so you don't lose track of him. You can use a Flashbomb to knock out the cats as well as stun Kut-Ku. Use it the correct way as I explained in the quest above this one. When Kut-Ku's ears go down, it means he is low on health and is close to death. You should notice him limping, once this happens he will try to fly to Area 5. Try to stop him, but he will probably manage to get away. Follow him to Area 5 and clear the area of the Velociprey. When Kut-Ku lands finish killing him. Once he has died your quest will be completed. O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..URGENT!....................................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | The Land Shark | (1.19) O===============================O Hunting Quest Quest Level: **** Reward: 1200z Contract: 250z Time: 50 min. Area: Desert Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Cephadrome Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Oasis Town Chief Our pack-animals were eaten by something in the desert. But nobody saw the monsters attack! Find and slay the alpha monster! The Cephadrome is a larger and stronger version of the Cephalos. Like the Cephalos, the Cephadrome also swims around the desert in the sand. If you were able to beat Kut-Ku, you shouldn't have a problem with this wyvern. Cephadrome is quite slow, his attacks are damaging but they are easy enough to avoid. For this quest, make sure to bring as many Sonic Bombs as you can make. The combination for Sonic Bombs is Screamer + Gunpowder. The combination for Gunpowder is Fire Herb + Nitroshroom. You can buy Fire Herbs from the item shop in the village. Also bring one Cool Drink, which can be purchased from the wandering merchant in the village. Make sure to bring along plenty of healing items. Once you are ready speak to the village elder and set out on the quest. Take all of the items from the supply box and head out into Area 2. If this is your first time trying this quest, you will be able to find the Cephadrome in Area 7. If this isn't your first time, you should be able to find him in either Areas 2 or 7. Make sure that you walk all the way to the end of 7 if you are searching for him. The Cephadrome is the large, dark brown coloured wyvern. They can be found swimming around the area with the Cephalos. You get the Cephadrome out of the sand the same way you get the Cephalos out, either throw a Sonic Bomb near it while it is swimming, or attack its fins while it is swimming or idle. Once good difference between the Cephadrome and the Cephalos is that the Cephadrome tends to stay on top of the sand longer than the Cephalos usually do. If you do not have any Sonic Bombs left, attack his fins when he swims by, or when he has just finished trying to spit sand at you. Stand where you know that the Cephadrome will swim by, watch him to know where that spot is. He may stop, dive under and emerge to try and spit sand at you, this is a good chance to try and bring him to the surface. Once you have managed to get him to the surface, make sure that you mark him with a Paintball. If the weapon you are using has green sharpness, attack the Cephadrome's legs, if it has yellow and below, attack its body. Stay between its legs while attacking, usually if you stay between his legs when he swings his tail it will miss you. If he swings his tail in your direction either block, roll or dodge the hit. The Cephadrome will also spit sand at you, this a good time to get some hits in, since you shouldn't be standing in front of it anyway. Make sure that you aren't standing to close to his head when he is about to spit, because as his head comes down it will hit you and throw you back. When the Cephadrome is low on health, he will retreat to Area 3. Follow him to that area and finish him off. There isn't any sand here that the Cephadrome can dive into, so he will stay above ground all the time. You should be able to finish him off here, once you have succeeded in killing him, you will have completed the quest. =====================================================================|--------| Four Star Quests | (OFL4) | =====================================================================|--------| O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Gathering Quests...........................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Bring Me Eggs! | (1.20) O===============================O Reward: 1500z Contract: 200z Time: 50 min. Area: Desert Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Deliver 3 Herbivore Eggs Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: The Lady Gourmet I search the world for new tastes and flavors. Now I want to try Apceros eggs. Let's start with 3. Thanks in advance! This quest is actually really easy, despite what you may have heard. You have to travel across the desert to deliver three eggs. The eggs you need are those of the Apceros. Before heading on the quest, make sure that you are prepared well. Bring 3 Cool Drinks, since you will be in the desert. Make either Power Juice or Mega Juice. Mega Juice is the better choice but make whichever you have the materials for. Combinations for both are: Power Juice = Catalyst + Rare Steak and Mega Juice = Power Extract + Well-Done Steak. When you use one of these, it prevents your stamina meter from going down, this way you can run while they are in effect without having to worry about running out of stamina and dropping the egg. Make as many of these as you can carry, you'll need them. Okay, now that you are all suited up, set out on the quest. Grab the Map and Rations from the box, you won't really need anything else. Head down to Area 2 and make your way to Area 7. Head into Area 8 from here. Kill the three Apceros that are hanging out in here, pick up an egg and... drop it. Head back outside and kill EVERY Genprey that you see. The Genprey in this area will not respawn once you have killed them, it is important that you pick up the egg before doing this. The Genprey roaming Area 2 will just respawn if you kill them. Head back into 8, three more Apceros will probably have taken the other's places. Kill them, once they are dead drink a Mega/Power Juice (Mega Juice preferably), grab an egg and head outside. With all of the Genprey in this area gone, you shouldn't have a problem moving through here. Just hug to the wall outside of the cave as close as you can, the Cephalos in this area still pose a small threat. Once you have made your way to Area 2, RUN! Hug the wall, watch out for the Genprey standing around here, move along the wall until you come to a cave. Try your best to avoid the pouncing Genprey, and head into the cave (Area 6). Don't stay in here too long, as you can see there are some Melynx hanging out in here. Once you are back outside, notice that the Genprey are in different positions. This makes it much easier, now just run to the camp and drop off the egg. That's one, repeat this two more times to complete the quest. Make sure that you drink another Power/Mega Juice if your previous one's effect has worn off. O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Hunting Quests.............................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Slay the Velociprey Pack! | (1.21) O===============================O Reward: 500z Contract: 200z Time: 20 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Slay 20 Velociprey Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Proud Farmer I had you kill those 10 Velociprey, but now they're back! There's 20 of them this time. Please take care of it for me, hunter! This quest is similar to the other Velociprey slaying quests, but this time you need to kill twenty of them, and you don't have nearly as much time. You need to kill twenty Velociprey in 20 minutes, luckily the Velociprey are weak and easy to kill. When the quest begins, quickly grab the supply box's contents and proceed into Area 2. Head into Area 8 and kill the three Velociprey, then proceed into Area 9. Kill the four Velociprey in Area 9 and exit into Area 3. Kill the four Velociprey in Area 3 and then head into Area 10. Just continue killing the Velociprey in Area 10 until you reach twenty. The Velociprey in this area continuously respawn. Watch out for Rathalos, if you see him, just run into another area. If he is in Area 10, instead of killing the Velociprey in there, go to areas 2 and 5, clear those areas instead. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Velocidrome Redux! | (1.22) O===============================O Reward: 600z Contract: 220z Time: 30 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Slay 2 Velocidrome Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Young Guardsmen Another Velocidrome has shown up. Please take care of it for me. Wyverns have also be sighted nearby, so be very careful. This time you are need to kill two Velocidrome instead of one. This quest should actually be easier than "The Formidable Velocidrome" since more than likely your weapon and armor has been upgraded greatly since then. Take Flashbombs with you if you have any. You can find the Velocidrome in either Area 3 or Area 10. They spawn in 10, so once you kill one wait in 10 for the other to appear. You may run into Rathalos, if you do just try to avoid him while you are fighting the Velocidrome. Use a Flashbomb if there are too many Velociprey around, if you brought any. Once you have succeeded in killing both of the Velocidrome, this quest will be complete. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Slay the Genprey! | (1.23) O===============================O Reward: 600z Contract: 200z Time: 50 min. Area: Swamp Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Slay 20 Genprey Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Injured Soldier I'm too injured to go on. I'd like you to find and kill 20 Genprey in the swamp for me. Watch out, they can paralyze you...! The Genprey are simply stronger versions of the Velociprey. That and if they hit you there is a chance that they can paralyze you, which is quite annoying... You have plenty of time to finish this quest, and the Genprey themselves are not very hard to kill, depending on your weapon. If you have gotten this far you probably have at least a decent weapon. Start with Area 9 and kill the six Genprey in this area, remain in the area until you have killed at least six Genprey. Go to Area 5 next, you can kill six more Genprey in here, don't leave until you have killed at least six in that area. They should respawn fairly quickly. You can just ignore the Velociprey, once you are finished, head into Area 10. You can kill the final eight Genprey in this area. Just continue killing them in Area 10 until you have reached the requested number. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Slay the Gendrome! | (1.24) O===============================O Reward: 800z Contract: 250z Time: 50 min. Area: Swamp Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Slay 2 Gendrome Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Ambitious Noble My caravans are being hit by Genprey, 2 Gendrome are leading the pack. Kill them and make the roads safe again for all! Gendrome are stronger versions of the Genprey. Gendrome are stronger than Velocidrome, but they are still fairly easy to beat. If your weapon has yellow or below sharpness, a lot of your attacks will bounce off of the Gendrome, this makes the weapon do less damage and also breaks your combos. Make sure that you are using a weapon that has green sharpness, it is not required but it does make this quest easier. You should be able to find the Gendrome in either Area 8 or 9. If not, search around the level until you find him, he should be around Area 9. Once you have found and killed the first Gendrome, head directly to Area 8. The Gendrome spawn in this area, so just wait there until it spawns. You should kill the Vespoid that are in there, you could also mine while you wait. The good thing about fighting the Gendrome in Area 8 is that it is just you and him, if you cleared out the Vespoid. It's really easy to fight any of the dromes one on one. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Attack of the Giant Bugs! | (1.25) O===============================O Reward: 400z Contract: 300z Time: 50 min. Area: Jungle Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Slay 30 Vespoid Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Jungle Envoy My village is under attack by a swarm of 30 bug monsters. Please help! They're weak individually but formidable in a group. Vespoid are the annoying wasp-like insects that you have probably seen buzzing around in previous quests. If you kill them, their bodies usually explode, not allowing you to carve any materials from them. The only way that you can make sure that you can carve their bodies is to poison them. This will deplete their health gradually and their bodies will remain intact when they die, allowing you to carve materials from them. To inflict poison on an enemy you need a weapon with the Poison element, or you need a bowgun that can shoot Poison shots. The combination for Poison S Lv1 is Toadstool + Huskberry, the combination for Poison S Lv2 is Sm Bone Husk + Ioprey Fang. You may not have Ioprey Fangs at this point, so S LV1 will have to suffice. When the quest begins, grab the items from the supply chest and proceed into Area 2 to start with. Vespoid are very weak, you should be able to kill them with one or two strikes. They do fly around a lot, this can sometimes make them difficult to hit. The Vespoid are the wasp-like bugs, ignore the bugs that crawl on the ground, they are Hornetaur. Kill the four Vespoid in Area 2 and then proceed to Area 3. Kill all six of the Vespoid in this area and then go to Area 1. Kill eight Vespoid in this area and then make your way to Area 6. You should be able to kill the last amount of Vespoid that you need to complete the quest in this area. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Ioprey Hunting | (1.26) O===============================O Reward: 700z Contract: 220z Time: 50 min. Area: Jungle Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Slay 20 Ioprey Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Mine Owner We encountered a huge Ioprey nest in a deep tunnel! We can't continue working unless you kill 20 of them for us! The Ioprey are stronger versions of both the Velociprey and the Genprey. They can inflict poison on you, which will gradually decrease your hunter's health. Make sure to bring Antidotes, the combination for Antidote is Antidote Herb + Blue Mushroom. When the quest begins take the necessary items from the supply box. It doesn't really matter which area you go to first because both areas 1 and 2 are populated with seemingly endless respawning Ioprey. The Ioprey can be hard to deal with when they are in a group, and if Kut-Ku enters the area things get even more difficult. If Kut-Ku enters the area that you are currently killing Ioprey in, leave that area and move to a different one. Areas 1,2, and 4 all contain respawning Ioprey, so you can move between these areas. The Ioprey can take a lot of hits to kill, depending on your weapon, just concentrate on one of them at a time. If they poison you, use an Antidote to cure the status ailment. Once you have managed to slay twenty of the Ioprey, your quest will be completed. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Slay the Gypceros! | (1.27) O===============================O Reward: 1400z Contract: 300z Time: 50 min. Area: Swamp Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Slay the Gypceros Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Guarded Merchant I saw a gigantic bird-like monster deep in the swamp! I can't do business with a thing like that in there! Please find it and kill it! Gypceros is a lot like Kut-Ku, he is fast and he attacks frequently. Make sure that you bring Antidotes, since Gypceros has the ability to poison you. Bring a Well-Done Steak, by now you should have your own BBQ Spit. You can also take a trap with you, you can buy a Trap Tool from the item shop in the village. A Pitfall Trap is made from Net + Trap Tool, a Net is made from Spiderweb + Ivy. If this is your first time attempting this quest, you will be able to find Gypceros in Area 9. When the quest starts, empty the supply box and head straight to Area 4. Clear this area of the Bullfango that inhabit it. Once you are certain that the area is empty, enter Area 9. There are more Bullfango in this area, and if this is your first time attempting this quest, a short scene will be played showing you that Gypceros is in this area. It is very difficult to kill the Bullfango with Gypceros in the area, and it is hard to ignore the Bullfango. Instead of fighting him here, leave Area 9 and return to the cleared Area 4. Before heading to 4, remember to mark Gypceros with a Paintball, so you know where he is. Gypceros will follow you into 4, this way you can fight him one on one, without any other nuisances. This area is large and wide open, making it easier to move around and avoid the Gypceros. Like I had mentioned before, Gypceros is a lot like Kut-Ku. He also has a bunch of the same attacks as him. He has the peck attack, which when it hits you, there is a chance that Gypceros will steal an item from you. Gypceros spits poison at you instead of fire, the effect of the poison lasts for quite a long time, so make sure that you use an Antidote if you get inflicted with poison. Gypceros likes to run back and forth across the area, this is annoying because he continues running and you can't catch up to him. Gypceros is noticeably tougher than Kut-Ku, but he isn't anything you shouldn't be able to handle. He also has a crystal on his head, he has the ability to make the crystal produce a bright light, this causes your character to become knocked out if they are within the range of the flash. When a hunter is knocked out, they have stars spinning over top their head. When this happens, to shake of the status quickly spin around the left and right analog sticks. Once you see that there is only one star spinning around your hunter's head, only spin the left analog stick. You can tell that he is about to perform the flash when he bobs his head up and down, try to move as far away from him as you can at this point. You can nullify Gypceros' flash attack by smashing the crystal on his head. To smash the crystal, concentrate your attacks on his head, eventually the crystal will break off. Once it has been broken Gypceros will still attempt to set off the bright flash, but it won't have an effect. Attack either Gypceros' head or body, since his legs are armored and most of your weapon's strikes will bounce off. Again, the safest place to fight is between the wyvern's legs. Stand between his legs and strike at his body, watch out for his tail swing if you are attacking his head or body from the outside. Gypceros may also go into 'rage mode', you will know that he is in rage mode when his eyes turn red and the crystal on top of his head begins to flicker. While in rage mode, Gypceros' speed increases dramatically. He usually runs back and forth, he also uses his flash more frequently. Rage mode doesn't last for very long, the amount of time varies. If you brought a Pitfall Trap, you can set it to deal some extra damage to Gypceros. You can also bring Lg Barrel Bombs, you can place these on the Pitfall Trap, when Gypceros falls in set down a Sm Barrel Bomb to set off the bombs. You can only set up traps in the non-swampland areas. If Gypceros flies to another area, remain in Area 4. Gypceros will usually fly back to you quite quickly. It is really difficult to fight Gypceros in Areas 5 or 10, since there are some Bullfango in that area, that on top of Gypceros is really frustrating. Make sure that you refresh the Paintball if it runs it, you need to be able to see Gypceros while he is in another area. If you see that his icon has changed to blue, this means that he is healing. If it changes to blue then you can leave Area 4 and catch up to him. Don't bother using Flashbombs on Gypceros alone, they have no effect on him. If Gypceros dies, make sure that you see the "All requested monsters slain!" message and hear the music playing. Gypceros will sometimes play dead in order to lure hunters into carving him, then he attacks them when they get too close. This is a mistake many beginners make apparently, don't forget this. Just wait until he gets back up, or cautiously approach him. I also want to mention that Gypceros does indeed limp, despite what many others have said. I have seen it with my own eyes, he does limp but rarely. O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Capture Quests.............................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Catch A Yian Kut-Ku | (1.28) O===============================O Reward: 1000z Contract: 220z Time: 50 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Capture the Yian Kut-Ku Fail Conditions: If you kill the Yian Kut-Ku: Reward Zero, Time Over Requestor: Stern Scholar I would like you to find and capture a Yian Kut-Ku alive. I suggest using a Pitfall Trap. Good luck, and thanks in advance! This is most likely your first capture quest. The goal of capture quests is not to kill the wyvern, it is to capture the wyvern alive. To capture a wyvern, you first need to weaken it, there are signs to tell you that the wyvern is weak enough to be captured. Once the wyvern is weakened, it will more than likely retreat to its nest to heal. This is the best time to capture the wyvern. Go to the area that the wyvern is in and then set a Pitfall trap, that is provided for this quest. Once the wyvern has fallen into the trap, then you need to throw Tranq Bombs at them. If you are using a bowgun, you can shoot them with Tranq shoots, which are also provided for this quest. First off, head to Area 5. Kill all of the Velociprey in this area, and then exit to go and look for Kut-Ku. Start by looking in Area 3, then 9 or 4. When you spot him mark him with a paintball and then start attacking. For a strategy to beat, or in this case hurt the Kut-Ku without getting killed, refer to the Jungle Menace three star quest. Now you should be familiar with Kut-Ku, having faced him twice previously. Once you see his ears fold down, stop attacking right away. Run to Area 5, try to arrive before he does. Once in Area 5 either wait for him to arrive, if he is there or when he arrives, look for his shadow on the ground and set the Pitfall trap on top of that spot. The wind from Kut-Ku landing might interrupt you, if it does just lay the trap near Kut-Ku's feet while he is standing idle. If he moves, just stand opposite of Kut-Ku behind the trap, when he charges towards you, if he steps on the trap he will fall in. Once you have Kut-Ku in the trap, throw a couple of Tranq Bombs directly on him until he falls asleep. Once you have successfully put Kut-Ku to sleep in the Pitfall Trap, you will have completed your quest. O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..URGENT!....................................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Attack of the Rathalos | (1.29) O===============================O Hunting Quest Quest Level: ***** Reward: 2250z Contract: 500z Time: 50 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Rathalos Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Proud Soldier It cannot be... But.. My entire band was wiped out by a wyvern. Now all rests upon your shoulders, monster hunter! Slay it! Now this is a hard quest if you have been playing purely offline. If you have, I commend you for making it this far. You will have to prepare well before hand. Equipment... Well, you should have some fairly decent armor, and also a dependable weapon, something with green sharpness at the very least. To give you an idea of what I mean, at this point my character was wearing Hunter's Helm, Battle Mail, Battle Vambraces, Hunter's Tasset, Battle Greaves, and was wielding a Knight Spear. Bring as many things as possible that you think will be useful to you. You will need plenty of healing items: Herbs, Potions, Mega Potions, A couple of Antidotes, you should know the combinations for those by now. Bring any Flashbombs that you may have in your item chest or you can make them by combining Flashbug + Bomb Material. Now, you should really bring a trap for this. The materials needed can be bought from the item shop in the village. The only thing missing for the ingredients is Ivy, which can be found in the Forest and Hills anyway. First, make a Pitfall Trap, do this by first combining Spiderweb + Ivy to make a Net and then Net and Trap Tool to complete the trap. Make sure to bring a Pitfall Trap, two Trap Tools, at least 5 Spiderwebs and Ivy if you have any and three Lg Barrel-Bombs. Additionally, you can bring Large Barrels and Gunpowder if you need extra Lg Barrel-Bombs. Bring a couple of Sm Barrel-Bombs to ignite the large bombs. You can combine the Trap Tool and the Nets in the field, since you can only hold one Pitfall Trap in your inventory. This way, you can use three traps on Rathalos, keep in mind that there is a chance that the combination will fail, which is always frustrating. If you are doing well money-wise (which I doubt, if you are offline only and haven't done a lot of gathering), you can speak with the wandering merchant in the village and purchase Book of Combos from him. This will give your combination a higher percentage of being successful. Take along other stuff that you think could be useful but aren't entirely necessary, such as Nutrients. Make sure that you have Well-Done Steaks, or the ability to make them in the field. Once you are ready, prepare yourself for a potentially difficult battle... Grab the items from the supply box, you might not have a lot of space left to carry everything, Just take what you can. Eat a Well-Done Steak to start with or cook one. If this is your first time attempting this quest, you will be able to find Rathalos in Area 3, which is actually a good place to fight him. If you need Ivy, in Area 2 if you climb up the vines and search over them, you can obtain Ivy. As soon as you can, mark him with a Paintball. Rathalos flies around... a lot. If he doesn't stick around in 3, follow him into either 9, 10 or 4. You will need to mark him as soon as you can so you always know where he is, since he runs away frequently. If this isn't your first time attempting this, just search in Areas 3, 4, 9 and 10. Based on my experience, he is almost always in Area 3 to begin with. Rathalos has a variety of attacks at his disposal. Some of them are really hard to avoid and they are also quite damaging. He has the standard charge, tail swing and bite. Rathalos' tail is really long, and his tail swing is hard to avoid, you can however cut off Rathalos' tail, making it easy to dodge. Instead of having to dodge a tail, you need to dodge a stump. Also try to stay away from Rathalos' feet, he charges a lot and usually without warning, even if you are standing behind him his feet will still hit you. Rathalos also shoots fireballs, they have an incredible range and can hit you from across an area. If you manage to get close to Rathalos while he is shooting fireballs, this is a good time to hit him since he is pre-occupied, he also lowers his tail so you can get a few good strikes on it. His tail can be cut off by any weapon really, it is just easier with certain weapon types such as great swords or lances. As I mentioned before, Rathalos flies around a lot. While in the air he can rain down fireballs upon you and he can also strike you with his claws. It is important that while he is in the air, you are also watching him, always know where he is. Rathalos frequently swoops down, and if you are just standing around waiting for him to land you will get hit and take some major damage. While Rathalos is hovering in the air, he will sometimes swoop down and maul you with his claws. This is a dangerous attack because on top of dealing a lot of damage, it also poisons your hunter. There is also a chance that your hunter will become knocked out, quickly spin both analog sticks to recover. If you weapon can guard, use it! This is invaluable and can save your life. Online, I don't see enough people who use blocking effectively, don't be one of those people! Below is some additional information about Rathalos' attacks, provided by Nicholasomusi: "When fighting Rathalos, a good thing to pay attention to is the way he turns. If he turns fast he will most likely run, if he turns slowly he will most likely use a fireball giving you a couple of free hits on him, but if he is almost dead when he turns slowly most of the time he will fly. He does this to get far from you so he can turn and shoot a fireball. Looking at his turns is a good way to know when to attack him." You have been provided with Flashbombs, and I really hope you brought traps and bombs with you. You can use the Flashbombs at pretty much any time, though Rathalos isn't completely incapacitated, he is for the most part. He can still swing his tail, bite and roar. As I mentioned above, you can cut off Rathalos' tail, to do this just concentrate your strikes on his tail, the best spot to strike would probably be right where the bulb connects to the tail. Once you have succeeded in cutting off his tail, you can carve it to receive one additional item. Never carve the tail while Rathalos is around, make sure that he is either in a different area or he is pre-occupied with something and you are sure that you will have enough time to carve. You can also break off his wing claws and his head armor, just concentrate your attacks on either the head or the wings. Don't use your traps carelessly, Rathalos moves around a lot, if you are hasty, place a trap in an area and Rathalos flies away, the trap is useless unless he visits that area again. I have had the most success with traps in Area 4 and 5, you should have the ability to make three traps. There is a chance that a combination will fail, but if you are lucky you will be able to use three traps on Rathalos, which helps immensely. When you have set up a trap, place the Lg Barrel-Bombs over it. Make sure that you give yourself enough time to set up the trap successfully. Stand so that you and Rathalos are on opposite ends of the pitfall trap, Rathalos should charge towards you, step on the trap and fall in. At this point, place a Sm Barrel-Bomb next to the Lgs and then stand back. Once they have been set off commence the attack on Rathalos. Hit him as many times as you can until he escapes the trap. Make sure that you save at least one trap saved for Area 5, where Rathalos will retreat to when he is near death. Once Rathalos begins limping, it means that he is close to death. Head straight to Area 5 when you notice that he is limping. Clear the Velociprey that are inhabiting the cave. Rathalos should stay in Area 5 until you kill him, but if he does leave, just wait in Area 5 and he should return. If you do leave Area 5 for some reason, you'll need to fight the Velociprey again, since they respawn when you leave. Set up another trap in Area 5, it should be relatively easy to get Rathalos to fall in the trap. He usually charges and spits fire balls in this area. Continue attacking him until he finally dies. This quest has the possibility of taking an really long time, just be patient and most importantly don't give up! =====================================================================|--------| Five Star Quests | (OFL5) | =====================================================================|--------| O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Gathering Quests...........................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Deliver Three Wyvern Eggs | (1.30) O===============================O Reward: 2000z Contract: 300z Time: 30 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 3 Wyvern Eggs Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: The Lady Gourmet I travel the world for new tastes and flavors. Now I want to try the egg of a wyvern. Please bring me 3 Wyvern Eggs! Another carrying quest... You don't have a whole lot of time to do this, so it would be a good idea to just do this quest the safe and easy way. Grab the needed items from the supply box and head to Area 5. Pick up an egg, drop it and exit into Area 4. Clear all of the Velociprey in Areas 3, 2, and 1. They will not respawn. This way you are free to deliver the three eggs without any resistance. Return to 5 and kill the Velociprey, take an egg and bring it back to camp. Repeat twice more to complete the quest. O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Hunting Quests.............................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Basarios: Unseen Peril | (1.31) O===============================O Reward: 1400z Contract: 300z Time: 50 min. Area: Volcanic Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Basarios Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Survivor A wyvern attacked my expedition from out of the blue in the volcanic zone. Where did it come from? Please slay it! The Volcanic Zone is arguably the best level for mining. It has the highest number of mining points and you can usually find higher end materials much more frequently. You'll want to bring Iron Pickaxes on this quest, so you can mine and gather materials from the many mining points located throughout the level. The three best mining spots are found in Area 8, make sure to stop by there so you can gather materials. Oh yeah Basarios... Well, don't worry about him, he's a real pushover. Since you have made it this far, you shouldn't have trouble with Basarios at all. He is incredibly slow, but he is well armored and can take a while to bring down. You should still have enough time to mine and kill him, you should have plenty of time left over after you have finished mining. Bring Antidotes with you, Basarios has an ability that can poison you, there are also Ioprey inhabiting this zone. Basarios can be found in Area 2, he is always in Area 2. Like the Desert, your health gradually decreases in certain areas, you have been provided with two Cool Drinks. You will only need them if you are planning to mine, otherwise the zone that Basarios is located in will not decrease your health. Once in Area 2, don't touch anything! First, quietly kill the Ioprey in the area, they will not respawn thankfully. Once you are finished look for formation of rocks in the area, once you have seen Basarios for the first time you will be able to pick him out every time. The formation is three rocks, the tallest rock being in the middle and the other two on the sides are shorter. If you have a stone or a Paintball, throw it at this rock formation to awaken Basarios. If not, just brush against the rock quickly and then move away. A Paintball isn't necessary for this quest because Basarios will always remain in Area 2 for the entire quest. Most of Basarios' attacks are easy to avoid, such as the usual tailswing, body slam and bite. As I mentioned before, Basarios is very slow making his charge attack harmless unless he runs at you from a close distance. The only attack that might catch you off guard is his poison gas attack. This attack, as the name implies, is a cloud of poison produced by Basarios. If you are standing in the range of the gas, you will be sent flying backwards with a brand new poison status ailment attached to you. The poison effect seems to last for quite awhile, so make sure to use an Antidote as soon as you are inflicted. He also very rarely shoots out a beam, this can be quite damaging, but like his other attacks, easily avoidable. You probably won't see him perform this attack however. The tip of Basarios' tail can be cut off, making his tailswing less lethal and also granting you an additional carve. His chest can be ripped open, his chest is the soft part, so direct all of your hits at his chest. His back, face and legs are armored by rock, most if not all of your attacks on these areas will cause your weapon to bounce off. His tail is armored too, but even if it is bouncing off it is still dealing damage. Keep hitting his tail, even if it bounces off every time, eventually it will break off. Focus all of your strikes on Basarios' fleshy stomach. There are several rocks scattered around this area, they are actually explosive and can deal damage to the Basarios. Try to get him to charge into them by standing behind (not directly behind) one of the rocks. Basarios should run towards you and hit the rocks, causing an explosion. A good strategy is to place some Lg Barrel-bombs by some of these exploding rocks. Then, coax Basarios to ram into them, this should cause some heavy damage. Just continue attacking Basarios until he is dead. Quest completed! O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Gendrome Redux! | (1.32) O===============================O Reward: 1100z Contract: 300z Time: 50 min. Area: Desert Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay 3 Gendrome Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Desert Lord A pack of monsters led by 3 Gendrome is causing trouble for us. Please hunt down and slay the 3 Gendrome. You've faced the Gendrome before. The differences between this and you last Gendrome quest is this one takes place in the desert instead of the swamp and this time you need to kill three Gendrome instead of two. Take the needed items from the supply box and head towards Area 10. If you happen to meet the first Gendrome along the way, kill it. Areas 1, 4 and 10 are all full of Genprey, which makes the fight with the Gendrome some what confusing. You can kill the Genprey and they won't respawn. In Area 10, if you leave the area and return the Genprey will have respawned. Once you have killed your first Gendrome, head straight to Area 10 and wait. This is the area that the Gendrome spawn in, so just wait here until they spawn. Kill the Genprey in this area while you are waiting, the Gendrome shouldn't take long to appear. Once the Gendrome appears, if there are still Genprey about climb up onto the ledge and fight the Gendrome up there. The Genprey jump up there to, but it is easier to deal with them when they aren't all around you. Watch the Gendrome, because when it is low on health it will flee to another area to heal. If he does get away try to find him and continue attacking, once dead return to Area 10. When you have succeeded in slaying the three Gendrome, the quest will be completed. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Fang of the Iodrome! | (1.33) O===============================O Reward: 1200z Contract: 300z Time: 50 min. Area: Jungle Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay 3 Iodrome Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Jungle Envoy My village is under attack by a pack of Ioprey. The pack is led by 3 alpha monsters. Slay the poison-filled creatures for us! The Iodrome are the alpha versions of the Ioprey. They are the strongest out of the three dromes. This quest is the harder than the other drome quests that you have encountered thus far. The Iodrome travels with a large group of Ioprey, which makes killing the Iodrome that much more difficult. As far as I can tell, the Ioprey respawn, so don't bother killing them. Things can get really confusing and frustrating because all of the Ioprey are spitting poison, biting and pouncing on you. Make sure that you bring Antidotes, because more than likely you will get poisoned at least once. Areas 1 and 2 are heavily populated with Ioprey, making this areas essentially undesirable places to battle with the Iodrome. Of course, you cannot control the Iodrome, so you will be forced to fight him in these areas. Just use the same techniques that you used to overcome the other dromes, the Iodrome is essentially the same as the others, but with more health and it can spit poison. I am uncertain where exactly the Iodrome spawn in this level, I suspect either Area 3 or 7. Once you have killed one just wait in 3 and it should either spawn or it will just eventually make its way to 3. Area 3 is a much better place to fight the Iodrome, since the only interference you will receive is from Vespoid. Kill three Iodrome to clear the quest. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Water Wyvern in the Desert | (1.34) O===============================O Reward: 1400z Contract: 300z Time: 50 min. Area: Desert Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Plesioth Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Proud Hunter I found a giant Water Wyvern in a cave in the desert! I can't defeat it because it stays underwater. Slay it and the credit's yours! Plesioth is brutal, that hip check is a real killer. Make sure to bring plenty of healing items, you'll probably need them. Bring any Sonic Bombs that you have or make some if you are able to. Sonic Bomb combination is Screamer + Gun- powder. Plesioth can be really frustrating, he's fast and his attacks do a large amount of damage. Some people say it is easier to fight him as a Gunner, I personally prefer fighting him as a Blademaster. Gunning is an option however if you are having a lot of trouble with Plesioth. I imagine Clust Lv2 would work out quite well. Combination for Clust Lv2 is Wyvern Claw + Sm Bone Husk. Once the quest has begun, take all of the needed material from the supply box and head exit camp. Plesioth can be found in Area 5, with Plesioth being an aquatic wyvern, you won't be able to fight him unless he is out of the water. He doesn't usually come out of the water by himself, so you will have to get him out. In Area 4, if you search by the small body of water you can find Frogs, which just happens to be Plesioth's favorite kind of food. In order to coax him out of the water, you'll need to lure him to you with a Frog as bait. Gather as many Frogs as you can from the spot in Area 4 and then go into Area 5. You will be forced to view a brief scene showing Plesioth. Once it is over jump off the ledge and kill the Genprey that are in this area. Plesioth should be aware of your presence by now, first you need to mark him with a Paintball. You can either mark him while he is swimming by or you can use a Sonic Bomb to get him out of the water. The best time to throw a Sonic Bomb is when Plesioth is about to or after he has used his water gun attack. Throw the Sonic Bomb close to him and he will jump out of the water. Throw the Paintball on him and then start attacking. Plesioth's deadliest attack is his tackle, he uses it frequently too. since Plesioth is so big it is sometimes hard to dodge. You really need to watch out for that one. Plesioth has all of the normal attacks, tailswing, bite, hip check. Plesioth's tailswing is deadly too, even if it looks like you are out of reach from his tail, it will still hit you. This may be due to poor collision detection, but he does have a long tail, and even if you don't think you are going to get hit, you still may. If your weapon can guard, make sure you use it. Plesioth is fast, so you'll need to be quick to defend against his tackles and tail swings. Plesioth's watergun isn't really a problem, it's easily avoided. You should be aiming your attacks at Plesioth's legs, he falls over easily. Eventually, Plesioth will jump back into the water. Watch his icon on the map, when he swims off into the far corner of Area 4 and his icon turns blue, use a Frog to fish him out. Now wait patiently, you can see from Plesioth's icon that you have his attention. As soon as you see the Frog being pulled under the water, press X to bring him in. Your character somehow manages to pull Plesioth in, once Plesioth is on land start attacking again. When he is first brought to the surface by a Frog, he is left flopping around on the land for a short period of time. Use this time to get in as many hits as you can. When the fin on Plesioth's back goes down, it means that he is low on health and close to death. You will be able to carve him four times. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Queen of the Desert | (1.35) O===============================O Reward: 1800z Contract: 350z Time: 50 min. Area: Desert Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Rathian Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Influential Noble I have traveled far to find a hunter capable of ridding my lands of a trouble- some wyvern. Please defeat the Rathian for us. Rathian is Rathalos' female counterpart. Rathian is a green wyvern, as opposed to red like Rathalos. While Rathalos patrols the skies, Rathian patrols the ground. So you can expect to be actually fighting her more often then chasing after her or waiting for her to land. Bring the same stuff that you brought to defeat Rathalos: Healing items, Pitfall Trap, Trap Tools, Nets, Lg Barrel- Bombs, and any Flashbombs that you have or can create. When you are prepared, speak to the elder and set out. Take the necessary items from the supply box and enter Area 1. Kill all of the Genprey in this area, they will respawn for awhile but eventually once you have killed enough, they will stop spawning. Once you are finished with Area 1 head into 3 and clear out the Apceros. If at any time, while you are clearing out the areas, Rathian enters, fight her in said area until she flies away. Once finished with the Apceros move to Area 4. As stated above, if you run in with Rathian while clearing the areas stay and fight her. Clear the Apceros in Area 4 and enter Area 10. Kill the Apceros in here and if you haven't already, find Rathian and mark her with a paintball. Rathian usually travels between Areas 1, 3, 4, and 10. Search these areas and you should be able to track her down. Make sure that you take the time to prepare the map for your fight with Rathian, it makes it much easier to fight her without any interfer- ence. Once you have found Rathian, mark her with a paintball and begin fight- ing. You can use a lot of the same tactics as with Rathalos, there are few differences between their attack patterns. Rathian does have one potentially deadly move in her arsenal that Rathalos doesn't, her backflip. This is a very deadly attack, it has the possibility, depending on your armor, to kill you in a single hit. If you manage to survive the initial strike, your hunter will also be poisoned. Poison gradually decreases your health, and if you were low on health to begin with, then the poison could do you in. This attack however, is fairly easy to avoid. When you see Rathian take a step back, she is going to do a backflip. Either guard or get out the hell out of the way! As with Rathalos, Rathian's tail can be cut off. Her wing nails and head crown can also be broken. Just focus all of your attacks on the specified area and they will eventually break/come off. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Slay the Rathian! | (1.36) O===============================O Reward: 1900z Contract: 350z Time: 50 min. Area: Swamp Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Rathian Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Charitable Man The monsters in the swamp zone are out of control, the Rathian in particular. I want you to hunt one down. Causalities are spiraling! Now this is a hard quest. You really need to be prepared for this one. For a strategy for defeating the Rathian, refer to the quest above this one. Even if you were able to defeat Rathian fairly easily in the Desert, she is much harder to defeat. Well, Rathian herself may not be that hard to kill, the problem is the prey and Bullfango that will constantly attack you. Unlike the online portion of Monster Hunter, you are the prey's only target, you have no allies and they're all after YOU! Bring the usual: Healing items, Flashbombs (these would be very useful for this quest), Traps (though you probably won't have many opportunities to use them), Lg Barrel Bombs, and Well-Done Steaks. You will need Antidotes as well. Rathian usually goes to Areas 2, 4, 5, 10 and maybe 3. Area 2 is full of Bullfango, if Rathian is not in the area clear them out, they will not respawn. Area 4 is inhabited by Bullfango too, they can be cleared out also. Areas 2 and 4 should really be the only places you use Traps, since the you can't set traps in the swampland areas. Area 4 and 2, when cleared of Bullfango, are good areas to use traps. Unlike her male counterpart, Rathian stays on the ground more instead of flying. So it is easy to get her into a trap. Areas 5 and 10 are full Genprey and Ioprey. 6 is filled with Genprey, I have never seen her fly to 6 however. The Genprey and Ioprey are the real problems here, while you are fighting Rathian they are constantly pouncing and biting you. When you are not getting stunned you are getting poisoned. Try to avoid fighting Rathian in this area if at all possible. Depending on your weapon type it can be hard to deal with the Genprey and Ioprey as well as Rathian. For this quest I used a Great Sword, since it has a wide attack area and can hit multiple enemies. The Genprey and Ioprey in these areas do respawn, so don't bother killing them. If you brought Flashbombs, only use them in the areas with the prey, since you can incapacitate the prey and stun Rathian. Make sure that you mark her with a Paintball when you first see her. If you are in Areas 2 or 4 and she flies away, don't follow her to Areas 5 and 10 unless you absolutely have to. Watch her icon on the map, if it turns blue go after her, if not wait and she may return to you. Continue attacking her until she is dead, quest cleared! O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Capture Quests.............................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Catch A Rathalos | (1.37) O===============================O Reward: 2500z Contract: 500z Time: 50 min. Area: Forest and Hills Special Conditions: None Goal Conditions: Capture the Rathalos Fail Conditions: If you kill the Rathalos: Reward Zero, Time Over Requestor: Selfish Princess I'm keeping that wyvern as a pet! So hands off! Now I want a male wyvern. And I want it ALIVE. OK? Another capture quest, similar to the Yian Kut-Ku capture quest. This time however, you have to capture the more formidable Rathalos. This isn't quite as hard as the slay the Rathalos quest, you only need to hurt him enough so that he is limping. If you had trouble with the last Rathalos this will still be challenging, but if you are prepared you should have an easier time. For a strategy for Rathalos, refer to the four star urgent quest "Attack of the Rathalos." Once again, traps will be useful in this fight, bring a Trap Tool and a couple of Nets. You are provided with one Pitfall Trap, but it is a good idea to bring extra just incase you make a mistake. You will need healing items, also bring any Flashbombs that you may have. Make sure that you either have Well-Done steaks or the ability to cook them in the field. If you have enough traps bring Lg Barrel Bombs too. Rathalos starts in random areas, just move through Areas 3, 9 and 10 to begin with. You should be able to find him or he will find you. When you have found him mark him with a Paintball and begin attacking. You can still cut off his tail, break his wing claws and crown, you just have to make sure that you don't kill him. As with the Yian Kut-Ku capture quest, you must stop attacking once you see him limping. Once you have seen him limp, head to Area 5 and clear out the Velociprey. If he hasn't landed yet, when he arrives look for his shadow and set up the trap. If you do not have enough time to set up the trap, just set it up in the middle of the area, Rathalos usually just charges and shoots fireballs in Area 5. Stand so that you and Rathalos are on opposite sides of the trap. Chances are he will come running at you and fall in the trap. Once in the trap throw a couple of Tranq Bombs directly on him to put him to sleep. O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..URGENT!....................................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | Horn of the Monoblos | (1.38) O===============================O Hunting Quest To Unlock: Clear all five star quests. Quest Level: ***** Reward: 3400z Contract: 800z Time: 50 min. Area: Desert Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Monoblos Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Royal Envoy Rumor has it the hunters here are among the best. A Monoblos has laid our soldiers low. Now we need your help. Slay it for us! First of all, congratulations on making it this far. If you have made it this far only playing offline, then you are definitely a skilled and competent hunter. You've made it this far, so you should be able to handle the Monoblos no problem. Monoblos is still a formidable opponent, but if you are prepared for him he'll be a synch. Make sure to bring healing items, Well-Done Steaks, and plenty of Sonic Bombs. Bring as many Sonic Bombs as you can, the combon- ation for Sonics is Screamer + Gunpowder. The combination for Gunpowder is Fire Herb + Nitroshroom. You can buy Fire Herbs from the item shop in the village. Don't bother bringing traps, they don't work on Monoblos, but the Sonic Bombs are a good substitute. Bring three Lg Barrel-Bombs and two Sm Barrel-Bombs as well. Once you are well prepared, speak with the village elder and set out. Take the necessary items from the supply box and enter Area 1. Clear the area of the Apceros that inhabit it. You will have to actually kill two sets of Apceros, once the carcass of one Apceros disappears another will take its place. Once the second set is dead they will not spawn anymore. The Vespoid, respawn, you'll just have to ignore them. Once you are done with Area 1 exit to 3. Clear the area of the Genprey and then move to Area 4. Once in 4, clear the entire area of the Genprey. If this is your first time attempting this quest, you will initially be able to find Monoblos in Area 10, a brief scene will occur and the Monoblos will appear. Monoblos has a variety of attacks, his signature move is his ability to burrow underground, and jump back to the surface, damaging anyone who is standing on that spot. There are some Genprey in Area 10, first off you will want to remove his horn. Jump up onto the ledge in 10, when Monoblos charges you, he will ram into the ledge, making his horn stuck. Once he is stuck jump down and start pounding his horn. He will eventu- ally break free, use this tactic as many times as required to remove his horn. You can also want to stay on the ledge to pick off the Genprey, they will jump up and you can just kill them until they stop spawning. If this isn't your first time and you meet Monoblos in another Area, there is a ledge in Area 2 where you can jump up on. I believe that there is also a part of the wall in Area 4 that he can get stuck on as well. If you manage to get his horn off, not only will it degrade the amount of damage his burrow and gore attacks deal, you will also receive a Crimson Horn in the reward screen. Monoblos' tail can also be cut off, and if you cut it off you will be able to carve it twice. As I mentioned before, Monoblos can burrow underground, for both travel and damage dealing. This is where your Sonic Bombs become useful, when he is underground, throw a Sonic Bomb near him, the bomb will bring him back to the surface but he will be stuck, it acts like a trap. Now quickly place two Lg Barrel-Bombs on him and then a small bomb to detonate them. You have to do this fairly quickly. You should still have some Sonics Bombs and one last Lg and Sm Barrel-Bombs. Additionally, you could have brought empty barrels and Gunpowder, if necessary. Monoblos sometimes goes into rage mode, you can tell that he is in rage mode because he has red markings on his head and black smoke coming from his mouth. Like the wyverns, in rage mode Monoblos becomes extremely fast. If you have run out of Sonics, you will need be careful while he is underground. If you have marked him with a Paintball, you will be able to see where he is on the map while he is underground. If it helps, you can press select to enlarge the map to show only the area you are in. This makes it easier to see where exactly Monoblos is, allowing you to avoid him. Try to direct your strikes to Monoblos' legs, if you hit them enough he can fall down, allowing you to get a few direct hits on him. Continue attacking the Monoblos until he finally falls, you can carve his body four times. Congratulations, you are the now a hero of Kokoto! O-----------------------------------------------------------------------------O |..Secret Quests..............................................................| O===============================O---------------------------------------------O | The Shadow in the Cave | (1.39) O===============================O Hunting Quest Quest Level: ***** To Unlock: Possess at least one piece of Vespoid armor. Reward: 2250z Contract: 700z Time: 50 min. Area: Swamp Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Khezu Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Noble Lady A child is lost in the caves. We want to rescue him, but a gray wyvern is in the area... Please slay the beast! Khezu is an interesting wyvern, he isn't very hard to beat, you were able to make it this far so this quest will be simple. Khezu dwells in the various caves throughout the level. Make sure that you bring Hot drinks, while in caves your character becomes cold, and the rate at which their stamina decreases rises. You don't need traps for Khezu, it's kind of hard to get him to step on one. You can easily kill him without one. Once you are on the quest, grab the necessary items from the supply box and set out. Khezu is in one of the caves, try 8 to begin with. In Area 8, you may be able to hear Khezu moving around, look to the ceiling and you may be able to spot him crawling around. Khezu has no eyes, so he can't see you, but he gets around by way of scent. If he is aware of your presence, there will be no eye icon next to you name indicating this. Wait in Area 8 for awhile, if he doesn't show up or if he does and leaves, head outside. If you are really having a hard time finding Khezu, you can purchase a Psychoserum from the wandering merchant in the village. This item temporarily activates an ESP-like ability to sense wyverns. You will be able to see where Khezu is for a short while. Use this once you have lost him and head to which- ever area he is in. As soon as you have the chance, hit Khezu with a Paintball. If he is in Area 8, he probably won't stick around for long. Head outside quick- ly once you are sure that he has left. Khezu will probably go to Area 11 next. If you can't find him go there and chances are he will arrive soon, kill the Vespoid while you wait. Khezu's attacks are very easily avoided. He has the basic tailswing and bite. He has the ability to produce electricity, which can be brought out in two forms. Khezu either shoots out a electricity ball, which is very deadly and deals a ton of damage depending on your armor. He can also plug his tail in the ground and generate electricity around himself, when hit with this your character will be thrown backwards. This is pretty much the only attack that can be difficult to avoid. When you see him getting ready to use this attack, run a little ways away, just out of range, so once he is finished you can return to attacking. Khezu also jumps up to the cave ceiling and crawls around, you can use his shadow as a guide to know where he is. Avoid the shadow, becau- se when Khezu jumps down and lands on you, it deals quite a bit of damage. The safest place to attack is standing between Khezu's legs. Strike at his legs, he falls down really easily. His tailswing is easily avoided and when he swings his tail you don't take damage from his feet. Sometimes you may get caught when Khezu is about to use his electricity veil, just make sure that you recover from this quickly. Once Khezu has taken enough damage, he will begin to limp, he will probably fly to Area 11 to heal. If he does leave, follow him and finish the quest. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | The Runaway Diablos | (1.40) O===============================O Hunting Quest Quest Level: ***** To Unlock: Possess at least one piece of Monoblos armor. Reward: 3200z Contract: 800z Time: 50 min. Area: Desert Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Diablos Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Border Captain A giant wyvern smashed the border-wall and ran into this area. We need to find and kill it before it causes any more trouble! Diablos is essentially a larger and stronger version of the Monoblos that you have already faced. You can basically use the same tactics that you used to defeat Monoblos. Diablos however, has two horns instead of one. You can break both of them, if you do you will have a high chance of receiving a Twisted Horn in the rewards screen and a low chance of getting a Majestic Horn. You can tell that Diablos is in rage mode by the black smoking emmiting from his mouth. Refer to the five star urgent quest "Horn of the Monoblos" and use the same strategy mentioned. You can only carve Diablos three times, and his tail once. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Terror of the Gravios | (1.41) O===============================O Hunting Quest Quest Level: ***** To Unlock: Possess at least one piece of Cephalos armor. Reward: 4800z Contract: 1200z Time: 50 min. Area: Volcanic Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Slay the Gravios Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Troubled Noble A fearsome Gravios has appeared amidst the magma and desolation of the volcanic zone. Slay the firebreather for us! This quest is pretty hard, Gravios is quite a tough wyvern to kill. Bring as many healing items as you can, bring cool drinks since you are in the Volcano zone, bring a Pitfall Trap, two Trap Tools, two Nets, three Lg Barrel Bombs and some Sm Barrel-Bombs to set them off. Additionally, you can also bring Large Barrels and Gunpowder, combine them and they make Lg Barrel-Bombs. Gravios can be fought in three different areas, that I am aware of. Areas 7, 6 and 4. Area 7 is the most common place I have fought him, head there first and wait for him to arrive. Unfortunately the incredibly annoying Vespoid in this area respawn at a very high rate. Gravios is the adult form of Basarios, the rock wyvern that you have faced before in a previous quest. Gravios is bigger, much stronger and faster than his juvenile form. Instead of emitting poison gas, he emits white sleeping gas. Gravios has all of the usual wyvern attacks, tailswing, bite, hip check and charge. Gravios' tailswing is a problem, his tail is very long and can wrap around his body to hit you on the other side. You can however, combat this by cutting off his tail. Like Basarios, Gravios' chest can also be ripped open, though this doesn't serve a possessional gain, it does let you know that Gravios is getting close to dying. Gravios also has a particularly devast- ating attack where he shoots out a beam of fire. You might have observed Basarios using this attack, but chances are you didn't. Gravios sometimes uses this attack four or more times in a row. The beam has an incredible range, that is why you need to stay close to Gravios, it is sometimes hard to determine where exactly the beam will hit. If you find yourself in the beam's path, do whatever you can to get the hell out of the way! When he is in the process of firing his beam, this is the ideal time to get in a few strikes on his tail. When he is on one of his beam frenzies, quickly move behind him and strike his lowered tail. If your weapon can guard, use it effectively! Though you cannot block Gravios' beam, if you have quick reflexes you can block all of his physi- cal attacks. The traps are invaluable, you should at least have one definite Pitfall Trap in your inventory and a couple of Trap Tools and Nets. Lay the Pitfall Trap in the middle of the area that you are battling Gravios in. Once your battle with Gravios has commenced, he will not leave the area in question until the battle is over. It can be kind of annoying to set up the trap if you are in Area 7, because all of the Vespoid are constantly disrupting. Try to move away from them and hope they will leave you alone long enough for you to set up the trap. When it has been successfully set, stand so that you and Gravios are one opposi- te sides of the trap. Be careful, Gravios may attempt to blast you with his beam, so be ready. When he charges and falls in the trap, place Lg Barrel-Bombs around him and then an Sm Barrel-Bomb to ignite. You have plenty of time to set the bombs around him, since Gravios stays trapped for a fair amount of time. Move away, watch the explosion and then start attacking Gravios if he is still stuck in the trap. If you brought extra material to make traps and bombs repeat the above. This should deal a ton of damage to Gravios. Gravios also limps as an indication that he is close to death. Continue attacking him until he is dead. O===============================O---------------------------------------------- | Handle with Care! | (1.42) O===============================O Gathering Quest Quest Level: ***** To Unlock: Clear "Terror of the Gravios." Reward: 3000z Contract: 500z Time: 50 min. Area: Volcanic Zone Special Conditions: None Goal Condition: Deliver 1 Powderstone Fail Conditions: Reward Zero Time Over Requestor: Royal Armorer We need large amounts of explosive to make Bowgun ammo. I want you to bring 1 Powderstone here to me. And be careful about it! This quest can be hard, really hard. You need to bring one Powderstone from Area 8 and bring it all the way back to camp without dropping it. This is no easy task thanks to the monsters that stand in your path. You will want to prepare well for this quest. Bring healing items, Pitfall Trap, Trap Tools, Nets, Lg Barrel-Bombs, Sm Barrel-Bombs, Cool Drinks, Mega Juice(very impor- tant!) and most importantly, patience. The combination for Mega Juice is Power Extract + Well-Done Steak. You may not have enough inventory space to carry everything, just take what you can. If you don't plan on killing Gravios, don't bother bringing all of the traps and materials. Once you are ready speak with the village elder and set out. Grab the necessary items from the supply box and head straight to 8. Get there as quickly as you can. Once there, move to the far corner of the area, search by the stones to obtain a Powderstone and then drop it. This is important because once you pick up a Powderstone, the monsters in some areas of the map change. To make it easier, you need to clear certain areas. The path you will be taking is 8 -> 7 -> 6 -> 4 -> 1 -> Camp. All of these areas save for 4 (which of course, just happens to be the most troublesome) are clearable. The Ioprey in Area 4 will just respawn if you leave the area. Head down to 7 and start clearing. It will seem as if the Ioprey in this area are respawning, they will eventually stop spawning so keep on killing until they do. Make sure that they are all dead and then continue to Area 6 and clear out the Apceros. If you happened to run into Gravios, which you most certainly will, you have two choices: Kill him, which would make your job easier, or if you will not have enough time, try to dodge him while carrying the Powderstone. It would make the quest much easier to just kill Gravios, but if you don't think you will have enough time left over once he is dead, you will have to dodge him. Next, clear Area 1 of the Bullfango that inhabit it. Once you are ready, return to Area 8, drink a Mega Juice and refresh your Cool Drink if needed and pick up a Powderstone. Move through Areas 7 and 6, which should be clear. If you didn't have enough time to kill Gravios, try to move through the area without getting hit. Swing your camera so you can see behind your back. If he charges, try to get out of the way, also watch for him if he is going to shoot a beam. Now for 4, there are a lot of Ioprey in here, this can be really frustrating since you don't have any way to incapacitate them. Now run, don't stop for even a second, run diagonally across the room to Area 1. Swing your camera around so you can see any approaching Ioprey. Try your best to zigzag occasionally, hopefully you can make it out unharmed. Once you have stepped foot in Area 1, you're home free! Bring the Powderstone back to camp and drop it in the delivery box to complete the quest.
