Definintly Minion is worth the trouble, but he is just a normal sized car when you play as him instead of being huge like he should be...
Also if you're confused about what minion says I took the liberty to translate them for you

Yes, Minion is worth the trouble. Especially if you want to unlock every single thing in the game. And this is how to use the shield:
During game play (don't pause or anything) press Right, Right, Down, Down. You don't hold any buttons either. The shield is only temporary.
You can also enter this code: (DO NOT continue reading if you don't want to see the cheat/code)
While you are playing (don't pause) hold down L1, L2, R1, R2 and press Up, Down, Left, Right, Right, Left, Down, Up. A message will appear if you entered it correctly.
