Hermes was the prison's exocutioner for 28 years, until he killed himself in the gas chamber. When you fight him, he says that killing people in the gas chamber wasn't enough, he had to "taste the gas himself". He also said that the gas chamber was his favorite method of exicution, that is why he comes back to life as a creature of pure gas. Dr. Killjoy ran the mental asylum near the prison up until the 1930s when he mysteriously dissapeared. He is obvoiously insane himself, you can tell by the methods of torture he used on his patients. I don't understand much about him, except that he keeps himself alive by using movie projectors somehow.

Hermes T. Haight, known to some fans as Mad Hermes, was Abbot's executioner for over 2 decades, who eventually killed himself in the gas chamber, for he "wanted to taste the gas himself".

Dr. Quentin R. Killjoy was a surgeon/Psychoanalyst/madman that ran the Carnate Institute for the Alienated from 1890 to 1930, where he vanished into thin air. His ghost manipulates 16mm film reels to appear to the living. It is believed that Killjoy either killed himself or was killed by escaping patients (evidenced by the lack of inmate corpses).

Hermes T. Haight was the executioner for nearly 3 decades at Abbot State Penitentiary. According to in-game dialogue, Hermes was a fan of the gas chamber, going so far as to kill himself with it to "taste the gas himself". He manifests himself by way of his favorite instrument of death: Sodium Cyanide gas, tinted with green dye.

Dr. Quentin Reginald Killjoy, alive from the late 1800's to the early 1930's, ran The Carnate Institute For The Alienated for several decades. He was as depraevd as the men he kept in his care, horribly maiming people in the name of "science". He died sometime in the 1930's, most likely by his own hand. The reason that his death was, most likely, not due to an inmate riot is evident in teh lack of subsequent stuctural damage: the damage present in the home is akin to that caused by extreme age and neglect, as well as corrosive sea air. Killjoy inhabits film projectors, using film, usually 16mm, to appear to humans, though this could simply be the light given off by the projector.
