How do you get through the part with the bridge

I think you have to kill a sword person and steal their sword. Then you get close to one of those posts on the side that ISN'T covered by the bosse's magic. Press O(Circle) when a target appears around one of them. You'll throw the sword and it'll start breaking the bridge. Then he'll come down...
