How do I beat the big alien near the end? I tried shooting it but it didn't die???

How I beat the super theta near the end is shot it with all three meson particles in my meson canon and then shot it about 100 times with my BBG while tossing grenades.

Heres a way to not waste any amo an ensures a quick win...turn mutant and keep using meele and if your dieing...just heal yourself by pressing R1
