Too many abilities.

Sometimes, putting certain abilities into effect could hinder you more than help you.

For example, when doing the barrel training exercises with Phil, the combo plus may hurt you by bringing you too close to the barrels.

Also, you may want to put on lucky strike and all of those extras when fighting regularly, but when fighting the boss, it's better to have the most useful abilities on; unless the boss drops some health or magic bubbles, you really won't be collecting a whole lot of anything, just fighting as hard as you can.
